  • Thank you Max Siegler for the song and the lyrics. The Boxer, to me, remains the best song of S&G.

  • Such a beautiful song!!. However I still don't get why my dad used to play this in mine and my brothers' birthdays :/

  • @nellajanrox This song is in no way close to the hook of hey mama. Just because kanye's song says la la la and so does this one, doesn't mean it is from this song. The sample Kanye uses is from Donal Leace in a song called "Today Won't Come Again". Nice try though.

  • gives my whole body chills... so beautiful

  • Does anyone know the name of the piece of music that has the "lie li lie" part off this song in it ???

  • OMG THis is where kanye STOLE The hook for his song Hey Mamma! It's a cool song but the original is so deep and heartfelt. I am now on a mission to see what else these to geniuses gave to the world through music. I feel a bit rich right now because I have access to such great music:)

    Thank you for posting this.

  • @kaybee1127

  • Some time ago, an imagined melody or perhaps a distant memory returned to me in a moment filled with lucid clarity...when I hear a time like this all the scars of what I miss carry me home going home lie la lie I lie to me I am never going home lie la lie down my head for the last time

  • Thirteen people who are too imbecilic to appreciate awesome music.

  • hola

    this is a beautifull song

  • hola

  • 1:26 skip to 1:32

  • lie la li

  • WOW just WOW for this song...

  • A chilling song about the individual human struggles and fights within. A perfect metaphor as well have fight in life. Boxing is the perfect metaphor--sometimes you get knocked down--get hit with low blows-get a bad decision against you--get your brain scrambled and your soul hammered--and yes you even win sometimes. But regardless of what happens life still happens and goes on.

  • R.I.P Anh Long.

  • One of the most beautifully and hauntingly written songs. These 2 cats overflowed with talent.

  • R.I.P Joe

  • this song reminds me when i was growing up back home in africa.

my dad had a record and he used to play over and over again

he died 4 years ago and each time i hear it , i think of my father and how much i miss him.

RIP dear dad until we meet again

  • 100% excellent and beautiful.

  • its not just your life story imagine actusaly living it..

  • euphoric moment..adore this beautiful harmony.

  • Awesome song and great vid mate, favourite:)

  • How the hell can 12 people dislike this.... have this really listened to the brilliant harmonies. This is fantastic

  • @bigpudding8888 They cannot like what they do not know....their cup will never be full.

  • Nope . Where the New York city winters arent bleeding me. As in sucking the life out of me. As I'm sure you know if you're from the TriState area.

  • very nice song :-)

  • I think the line is: Where the New York City winters are in breed in me. As in a part of me.

S&G are NYr's so that makes sense. Going home to where the NYC winters aren't bleeding me doesn't make sense if home is NYC.

  • love this tune, not my favourite simon and garfunkel...but one awsome tune....still dont know waht the fuck mumbles though

  • This is an amazing song and it is a metaphor

  • How do you get, "Where the New York City winters AREN'T BLEEDING ME"!? WHAT!?!?!?!?! Good for the most part, but WHAT!?

  • @Lyniex You must go to New York in the Winter...It will bleed you.

  • Fck the fighting man , go get the whores on 7th avenue

  • This song is great.Period.

    :)

  • Yes, the Fighter still remains. The Fight continues.

In memory of Jack Layton 1950-2011

  • 9 people disliked this song....

  • @XxBlakexMichosXx I understand they were whores from 7th Ave.

  • Very nice song! I don't love the music of nowadays, I love the music of earlier times!

  • this song is the most devastating and heartbreakingly beautiful thing. I remember hearing it when my dad played it for me as a little boy. Still makes me choke up.

  • Danke.

  • I love this song. This kicks ass. Thanks for putting up the lyrics.

  • Was it just me or did it seem kinda fast? And also what was with the pictures? It was an awesome and always be awesome song!

  • now THIS is music :) songs back then were sooooo much better then today's trash sung by no-talent idiots!

  • @eyeofbast ........Uncultured swine .

That reminds me of the Nazi antisemetic propaganda from way back .

I'll check around to see if the J.D.L. are still active .

  • @codern as much as i hate to admit it.... lady gaga actually wrote most of her songs and to be fair she does do acoustic versions which are actually quite good to my suprise never the less still preffer music like this :)

  • great song.

  • 9 uncultured swine apparently can't appreciate music - sad.

  • @eyeofbast I don't understand why they even bother checkin out these songs if they can't appreciate them. I miss the storytellers.

  • @eyeofbast 14 to be exact

  • @eyeofbast Maybe Justin Bieber funs ...what can we do?

  • When I was attending high school in Kirkland Lake, my old English landlady used to ask me to turn the music down....but at night when I was sort of lonely, I'd put this record on in my room....then she'd yell upstairs..."Patrick...can you turn it up please?"....LOL. As it turned out she loved Simon and Garfunkel.

  • The Dominos realeased their Hit Single "Homeward Bound" On 24th November 1969 and it took 5:01 seconds.

  • Artist: The Dominos

    Song: "By The Mighty Light"

    Released: 15th December 1975

  • I just love this song!!!

  • "Still, a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest." Sad, but true.

  • where has all the real music gone...ie the 70,s & 80,s

  • I AM THE BOXER!!!

  • @estebanok73 well i'm the whore on 7th avenue

  • Simon and Garfunkel are two of a handful of singer/songwriters whose music gets all the way to the soul...

  • Not many others can make me feel the way Simon and Garfunkel do. They get down to the soul ...

  • lalalalai....yes I am!!

cada golpe de la vida y cada golpe de esta canción están en una consonancia armónica del universo!!

  • Absolutely great song!

  • Simon y Garfunkel...

  • wars on 7th ave?

  • Comment removed

  • @trekker60001 Not the wars, the "whores" on 7th ave. :) Cheers!

  • This song kicked my ass 30-something years ago. I downloaded the karaoke version. I demand a rematch! :) It's a good song, I just didn't know what I was in for when I did it.

  • Whenever I hear this my heart beats faster! such is the feeling of great old memories. I'm Spanish native speaker living in a spanish speaking country but the meaning of this song overpasses language barriers!

  • Story of me...!

  • God, I love this song

  • Ich auch.

  • in a Simon and Garfunkel far far away.. *star wars music*

  • Now I live my childhood again. :)

  • Hey, I really appreciate the effort of scrolling all the lyrics. However, have you ever considered inter-cutting photos of actual struggling boxers?--Maybe some truly anguished black and white gym shots of fighters giving everything they've got to the heavy bag or working against the focus mitts with a trainer? You might also consider inter-cutting some gritty urban shots of folks on the edge. Could really frame your video so much more artfully. Just a suggestion.

  • Omg, I've been looking for this song for years! Ever since I was like, 3! And I'm 16 now!! JUST found it!!! :D THANK YOU!!!

  • i am weeping here, i have played this 32 times already. it is my life story

  • @TheParamountPrincess

    amen Princess...mine too

  • Boy, ain't this the story of my life....you know, without the male part....or the boxing....

  • the presentation of the letter difficult to follow

  • Comment removed

  • i love the Central Park version in 81. Paul Simon seems to be in an another world , in the song, living it with his guitar. For me the best song ever

  • DOndermooi!

  • This is such a sad song. Never knew that in the boxing world, there were young men who thought that they could succed then find that they have no opportunity.

Then again, there are so many similar stories like this in different aspects of life.

  • Those three who dislike this should be banned for life. No one is making you watch this, so don't complain.

    Anyways, really nice.

  • @22Tesla BRAVO!!!

  • 0:30 - 1:15 is my favorite part. One of the greatest songs of all time. People of our generation could learn a lot from music this good.

  • best song ever!IT'S! such a song who you sit down and just start crying because it's so beautiful... <3

  • lie la lie :) ...best part

  • "I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains" That some heavy shit man.

  • Simon and Garfunkel most definitely have enriched our lives with their great music and lyrics!

  • Ich liebe dieses lied!

    danke!

Meine deutch ist nicht gut :(

  • Ok. Im like 13. And I no this! It's just to come home from the WARS. Not WHORES! Wow. Way to ruin the song!

  • @bfflJKwryw Its"Just a come on from the whores on seventh avenue . the whores propositioning him . thats the song

  • @bfflJKwryw Starting off any sentence with "I'm 13" is an immediate give away that the rest of what you write is likely to be factually inaccurate. What sense does "Wars on 7th avenue" make?

  • @bfflJKwryw I hate to tell you this but you're completely wrong.

  • @SunnySandyEggo Ok I dont even care anymore! Leave me alone! Sorry for thinking somthing!! I am still goingto sing it wars! You cant stop that! WHat the fuck ever! Bye!

  • prachtig ! en ikben nu 26 vind t prachtig !

  • Guter Job kommt wirklich zum Leben ohne viel Unordnung.

  • One of the classics in the music scene. Man did these 2 guys give us some wonderful music and this one is one of the greatest

  • I can't tell u how happy I was when I typed in 'Simon' in the search bar and 'Simon Cowell' wasn't the top prediction.

    There's hope yet it seems.

    :)

  • Favorite Song. Ever.

  • I love this song. "Homeward Bound" is another great one.

  • In the clearing stands the boxer and a fighter by his trade

And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down

Or cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame

"I am leaving, I am leaving" but the fighter still remains.

Paul Simon is a treasure. One of the few great American poets.

  • but the fighter still remains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love this !

  • proper great music - takes me way back in time x

  • i was frst confused about the comment written in german

  • this is a sad song

  • some songs become independent from the time thy were born in - this is such a song

  • "I am just a poor boy tho my story seldom told " the start of the song is just amazing and catchy

  • "In the clearing stands a boxer & a fighter by his trade & he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him till he cried out in his anger & his shame, "I am leaving, I am leaving!", but the fighter still remains..."

  • How many guys as I have seen "Rocky" and imagined becoming a great fighter? Today, listening to this song can understand the words. I did the best I could, I am not become a champion, but as the song says "I'm leaving But the fighter still remains", old, painful but remains, at least in my heart.

  • I love this song but the end, starting at 3:30, gets a little excessive especially taking into account how it started, but that could be why I'm not a musician.

  • @Beattodeathlikeadog Excessive?! That part could go on forever and I wouldn't get tired of it.

  • ya know everybody gets on here to talk down to anybody who doesnt like certain types of music....well i think we should just all be happy we have music o listen to and leave other people alone....PEACE!!!

  • @McCall72 I agree, and those memories are mostly those that you don't even consider remembering about. And those that you really wanna remember sometimes just fades away.

  • Love Simon and Garfunkel and particularly love this song.

  • Mid 1970's riding with my Grandpa in his silver 1971 Monte Carlo in Charlotte, NC and hearing this song on the radio. Funny how some moments in life stick with you for years for no particular reason why.

  • reminds me of my mate..deny cronin, true gent, took some shit in his life , but still comes out fighting, proud of you den... old school mate....andy

  • and this is an example of why i love music.

  • each to his own. all people here who bash this modern age's music is a retard because not all people choose yesterday's music over the modern. like me, for example, this artist is my second favorite after eminem

  • now do we find song writers like this today? who can possibly say we do? is it not apparent that these times reflect a youth which has no artistic taste or vision, an entertainment industry which caters to the youth and has taken over the music industry with reality tv and rubbish that we as a society embrace and as a result complain that there r no more artists anymore, we're all part of that problem...i thank music like this for reminding me of where we've come and where we're going.

  • @codern fleet foxes.

  • @Ceighk i like them

  • @codern : Here in the Netherlands we have an artist called "Spinvis" who makes, allthough sometimes extremely alternative, original music.

Look up "Spinvis - Bagagedrager" on YouTube, some American internet-friends said that they got the message even though they could not understand the words (the videoclip helps too offcourse.)

It's a sort of love song that describes being on the luggage carrier of a bike in the middle of winter.

  • @Dutch3DMaster All Right!!!

  • @codern no they don't write songs like that cause if they did i would be happier to

  • @codern

I cully concur that today's multi media is wretched, in particular popular music found on the radio. I will however argue that it is the fault of the music producers in their attempt to brainwash our youth that they come out with such garbage. My only reason in argueing this is that though I am nearly 20, I feel I am a part of youth culture and those lame songs we've spoken of are not what we stand for.

  • @nubsgetpwned im a decade older than you, I can safely assert that while there are always exceptions, the people who are exceptions with their good taste , are only truly exceptions if they actively make a difference. Parents are one thee boggest problem in todays culture. The professional child worshiping parents are the main problem. They are completely passive & oblivious to the truth about what is going on with the entertainment industries manipulation. And so, the problem perpetuates.

  • @codern. I understand how you feel and what you are saying. But there are people out there right now making songs just as meaningful and beautiful . . . you just don't hear them on the radio these days. People are the same today, forty years ago, four hundred years ago, and four thousand years ago; we haven't changed; society hasn't changed.

  • Comment removed

  • @DasGestalt are you kidding me? Have you ever heard of social evolution.? Im sorry, im sure you're well intended, but i can't 1 iota on anything you just said.

  • @codern. I'm not well intended I just see things as they are. Shakespeare is still valid because people haven't changed in 400 years. If we had changed in 400 years Shakespeare's plays would be useless and forgotten by now. But they aren't. They are just a meaningful today as they were when they were written. Why? Because people haven't changed. Your words aren't new. Every generation says the same thing about the rising generation that you say. Socrate said the same thing 2500 years ago.

  • @DasGestalt im sorry, but i dont believe you do see things the way they are. Society is constantly changing. Your shakespeare comment has no merit. It is like me saying, "since i still like S&G after all these years, i must not have changed." Thats completely false. And im not equating this comment post with Socrate. Bottom line, society has changed, which is partially why music has changed, and it's simply not as good, regardless of the few who still create music with meaning. It is that simple

  • @codern Eric Whitacre

  • @codern yah

  • @codern I disagree, whilst the music might not be to your taste, there are great songwriters out there with something to say. I am blown away by the Arctic Monkeys A Certain Romance and how the lyrics appear to predict what happened in London last week. You should also listen to System of a Down, Toxicity (unfortunately released on 9th Sept 2001 but an amazing social comment).

  • @loquayrocks Hello. 1) It's not a question of the music being to my taste, it's an issue of the music not having taste. 2) sure, there are always great artists & songwriters out there, but for the most part, they are independent artists in the underground scene. Commercially speaking (as I was) there is no good music anymore because today, music isnt actually music anymore, rather..it is a cheap form of entertainment catered solely to the youth. 1 or 2 references of exceptions doesnt & shoulnt

  • @loquayrocks be a deciding factor that changes the mainstream based on someones musical preferences. That said, i'll check out the artists you've mentioned. Cheers.

  • Two dislikes! I'm DISGUSTED!

  • mad love

  • Has anybody else noticed the low instrument in the verses? It sounds like something you would find in a Dr. Suess book...

  • @aribob22 hahaha ya i can hear it xD

  • So perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im in love with an inanimate thing and it doesnt bother me one single bit.

  • ich krieg beim refrain immer eine gänsehaut.....

  • dosen't look like anyone is argueing in this comment section. mmm...could it be the song or just chance? is the song that good i mean, nevermind. i need caffine:)

  • Beautiful song!!

  • omg beautiful song, i love it.

  • what a song, great lyrics , never tired of hearing it even into the new century we go

  • this is one of my favorite soongs ever!!!

  • one of my all-time faves
