This seems to be considered one of the lesser Lewon classics, but personally I find it to be one of the best. These films are all frightening, but the Leopard Man has real intense things such as the scene when the girl is walking home. It's not as good as Cat People, Curse of the Cat People, or The Body Snatcher for example and the story sounds silly on paper, but they filmed these movies so well you forget that. Many B-movies (especially today's) don't even try to be quality films like these.

@balrog13571 I've been searching for this movie and couldn't remember the name but finally found it. It came on tcm a few years ago and I was literally so scared I turned it off, that has never happened to me before. I am completely dulled to horror, but something about this movie got to me, and they hardly use any gimmicks or effects or elaborate gore like modern horror, just good film making and acting. Anyways I'm going to give it another go, the bit i did watch has haunted me.

Well the scariest part is probably the scene you watched and things are always scarier when you don't expect them, so it might be easier. It's still worth a look though. There's something particularly haunting about films like this that leave it to the imagination (something the torture and gore reliant horror movies of today could learn), and that's a good thing. It's a horror movie so it should scare you. You can find it on the Val Lewton box set alongside eight other great films

@balrog13571 Yea I'm definitely going to watch the rest, I meant it haunted me in a good way, I kept thinking about it even though I just saw a bit, when the majority of what I watch is forgotten in a week. I agree, the moviegoer's imagination is the best tool at a director's disposal, especially when it comes to fear, somehow few of them take advantage of it. I will watch all of lewton's films on netflix, any other horror you'd recommend? or movies in general.

Well really it depends on what scares you and what setting and time period it is you like and then theres other factors like if your claustrophobic, sqemish, or afraid of what's in the dark. If you know those things, finding movies that use those are a breeze. As for me I find possession, haunted houses, unseen things, psychotics, and small spaces to be quite unnerving so things like Psycho, The Exorcist, Black Christmas, The Orphanage, The Descent etc really got under my skin.
