Bullshit !!!!!! i was abused when i was a child i didn't killed any one and i am a good parent , i am also a very nice person i love God and every one is equal in my eyes i hate excuses any one who kills made that choice , excuse my english is my second language.
@cagalli85 heard a study of how some shared genetic material stays dormant in some but active in others. It's predictable based on upbringing "It's become clear the ? is not of genes VS environment, but genetics in dialog with environment." Well said, I think.
When I was 11 I was very self aware and very much the person I am, If she was so smart, she wouldve been too, Shouldnt be allowed to have a free life.
@MissLeigh78 No you dont have to take every comment as the most literal understanding of it. I have a right to my opinion that I form from my own experiences and discussions with my peers and I feel an 11 year old is self aware enough to know what they are doing, and that two children lost their life I do not feel it is fair to say that she can be free to live her life because kids will be kids
I agree that it is the mothers fault and the fathers. Anyone would be a sociopath if their mother was psychotic, sexually abusive/violent, had a drunk violent father, and grew up in a home where violence was a normal thing and acceptable. She was sociopathic because her parents neglected her, showed no love and compassion towards her so she did not learn love and compassion. She diddnt learn right from wrong. Its the parents fault for her being a sociopath.
@thewikidjuggalo420 It's no excuse. You get people from good homes who are sociopaths, I know people from terrible homes who went in the opposite direction.
@Magnetokid And where did you get your degree in child criminal psychology? Oh that's right, you're a janitor. Stick to the things you know about...like football and potato chips/
@thewikidjuggalo420 my mother grew up in a home that was abusive (sexually & physically) & had a drunk father & a crazy mother & she is not in any way sociopathic or psychotic. she has some issues since her parents were not the loving parents one would want, but a bad upbringing doesnt make you psychotic - if it did, we'd be surrounded by serial killers. mary bell was sociopathic because she was born that way & her upbringing helped teach her that violence was both ok & a way to get things.
When parents fail to pay attention to their kids and be aware of their actions and behaviors and correct them, that's how bullies, killers, and monsters are made.
I think this should wake people up. Adults that see students terrorizing other students, or show signs of numbness to emotions and what not...maybe they should really take an interest and find out what's wrong.
The two dead boys had NO access to 'rehabilitation' or a life of any kind, courtesy of Bell. Other children were assaulted + intimidated by this vicious bully/thug/killer. MANY people have endured impoverished and very harsh upbringings, without turning to murder. Bell, still in denial, has been afforded the chance of a life and family. If Bell's own child/grandchild were arbitrarily murdered, would she remain 'impervious' to such brutal actions? No. Hope karma's very quick for you, Mary HELL.
the retard and mary should have been hanged they should not have been given a slap on the wrist and molly coddled anyone who can kill does not deserve to live
I cannot believe that so many people believe an 11yr old child should be held as responsible as an adult. Remember, she was punished. A lot of adults serve less than 12 years for murder. And as terrible as her crimes were, she was no sadist, just a little child suffering from neglect, lack of love and surrounded by violence. I truly feel for those little boys, but I also hope that Mary has a happy and fulfilling life.
I think most people here should watch "Child of Rage". Then you'll stop saying "You can't keep blaming and justifying it by their backgrounds ans how they were brought up", because you can. The early ages of a child's life are very important, the lack of love from you parents lead people to become psychopaths. Often, adult serial killers or psychopaths used to kill animals and mistreat other children when they were young for the same reasons. Our brain has its own way to work.
@EdenZak They say Mary Bell was very smart and that's usually a thing that discribes psycopaths. I think there has to be strong intelligens for the children to develop psycopathic tendensies. Beth Thomsen or whatever her name is, was also very smart.
@EdenZak this girl she was daddy's angel and mommy's little star. they loved her. they were the only rich couple that spent time with their child. gave her love and almost anything she wanted. then she met someone. she liked him..but her parents saw him has a bad influence. you know what she did? she killed her parents while they were sleeping. a 14yrs old boy got up one morning and killed his favorite math teacher. this is a straight A student. some kids are just bad
@NormbrettaMod I'm not saying that EVERYTHING has to do with backgrounds, but serial killers in general show early signs as children, and for many of them, it has to deal with trauma they lived as children, that messed up their heads. I'm not saying that they are ALL like that, but it's quite recurrent.
Yes you can partly blame the background and environment, but you can't ALWAYS assume kids in unhappy/abusive homes will become monsters, or kids in wealthy and happy homes won't
Really there are so many factors at work and every kid is different. It's dangerous and naive to assume all killers come from the same stock.
@RaygirlROL That's what I said...I will resume what I answered Norbrettamod : Not everything can be blamed on backgrounds but serial killers show early signs as children. It's something recurrent. I said "Not everything". When judging someone, it's important to take that in account, because it could make a difference between finding a suitable treatment or prison for life. Some of them are also treatable and it doesn't make what they did forgivable, still it's not to be ignored.
Exactly. I love the kneejerk reaction the newspapers and public have to killers like these screaming 'they deserve to suffer' or 'WE NEED TO FIND SOMETHING TO BLAME' when it's all just closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.
@RaygirlROL Well, it's important to understand why and the way their mind works, not only because it's fascinating to see how the human mind can be, but also because it can help to understand future offenders. I'm certain that we know way more now, than what we did when this show was made, and when Mary Bell was a kid. Where I live, to do "criminology", you first have to do 3 years of psychology ^^ Shows it's important I think.
There is no question to if their background and early years play a vital role in the shaping of the person, and that to some extent the reasons why a crime as brutal as murder is committed, can be traced back to trauma in their early childhood.
But keep in mind that many children all over the world, past or present, have or is experiencing abuse and/or lack of affection - that doesn't mean they turn out to be killers.
I think it's the combination of their childhood - or rather the lack of one, and some form of a personality disorder, that make a lethal combination. Some people are "capable" of violence, others aren't. I believe this is sealed before birth; a part of our DNA.
I don't believe people can truly change either, but I do believe in the power of the mind. If somebody really wants to change they can learn to ignore, or how to deal with, the dark side of their personality.
@EdenZak Then by all means your saying I should be a psychopath. I spent so many years of my life not talking about my childhood because I was afraid it would effect how people see me. This huge assumption that we're destined to be fucked up. It's not nature vs nurture. It's nature and nurture. It's a very exact chemistry. The parents didn't put the desire to kill in her but they could have prevented it. Some people simply have the capacity to kill for pleasure and some don't.
@cagalli85 I don't fully understand why you are answering this to me (I think it was meant for @GlamourHollywood) because I expressed myself multiple times on the subject, and I don't make assumption, my point was clear : it's not black or white, therefore it's important to understand their psychology. I never said ALL mistreated children become serial killers or psychopaths. I said that childhood is a part of it, not the sole and only cause of it. Read all the comments please.
@twright778 Yes, that is the case if you actually have a sense of morality and conscience.. obviously in the way she was bought up, she lacked these 2 things which tell you killing is wrong. However, the fact she lied about it until the very end does somewhat suggest that she knew she had done wrong, otherwise why lie about it? Nevertheless extremely interesting case very much open to debate
@caarm207 I agree. Most things i've read about psychopaths is that they are usually proud of what they've done. But of course there are many aspects of psychopathy.
I'm sorry but she should not be free. She should've done life in prison. 11 years old is old enough to know right from wrong (She was an "intelligent" 11 year old afterall, as they say). When I was 11 years old I somehow knew that strangling toddlers was a crime. Didn't you?
Whether her acts are excusable because of her upbringing & environment or not, it's not worth the risk of letting her walk among us. And even if she is able to be free, she should never have been able to have kids of her own. The fact that she killed children, specifically, shows that she's not trustworthy to be around, let alone raise, children, even her own. Her victims weren't even old enough to have kids of their own. She destroyed that possibility when they were still children themselves.
This is such an intriguing story. It sucks that Mary went through so much as a child though. She could have made something of herself with intelligence and a personality like that
any-one who commits a crime so twisted should never be released no- matter what age they were when they done it. it's all sad about their childhoods but to do something so evil to a very small child ? it's obvious they have no remorse or empathy to do something so evil so why let them out?
@juliannades39 this is not about neglecting but about lack of love..it's predetermined that if u don't receive love during childhood u never be able to give love to anybody.she was growing in dysfunctional family exposed to bizarre practices..
@marqizaa read the story of baby Peter, his mother (who was neglected during childhood)ignored the fact that her only child is tortured by her boyfriend...this is how lack of love and attention plus bad environment create a monster.Anna Motz, a consultant clinical psychologist who has studied women who abuse or collude with a partner's abuse, said: "In cases like this there is often this early experience of abuse and trauma and neglect in the mother's background.
Moral of the story: If you need free education, room and board, free meals and health check ups get out your little scissors (zig-zag), claim abuse and give it to the man! Jesus! They are both free and alive unlike the boys they murdered
"child of rage" explains a lot to those ppl who thinks that Mary was an evil child,in fact she was a victim, girl who never had normal family.we have to give lots of love and attention to our children.
@marqizaa i agree iv watched chiled of rage it broke my heart it s so sad that wen a child is betred by the very ppl that are surpossed to protect her ruin her life watch the video on baby brianna the crulty perants can infilct on there own babys is distressing its on youtube but i warn you it will break your heart and its graphic
@marqizaa i had a life just as bad as these children and i havent done what they have done. within our individual personalities there are those of us who choose to be good and those who choose to be evil because of our upbringing. there is no excuse for what mary done. there are millions of sexual abused surviours but one or two cases like this?
@MsHofling remember never judge anybody cos u may know just one side of story..just because u had this kind of experience it doesn't mean that others experience was similar..for ur information i was molested when i was little but i feel normal..i have family,i try to give a lot of love to my kid.some kids are just vulnerable, some have bad genes and apparently have dysfunctional families..everything is about statistics..
my point precisely! i would not judge people due to their up bringing and stereotype but when it invoves the murder of two vulnerable children then i can judge. If genetics did play a part then surely their characteristics cannot be reversed therefore i think mary should have been securely locked up indefinitely..
This story is in may ways inspiring, agitating and intriguing. The over whelming feeling I get is to want to hug my children and hold them closer, so that they feel the love I want to give them, so they can share it with those closest to them, if not, to at the least be empathetic to others and the world. </3 :''(
@jennnls1983 She wasn't evil. She was a child. A neglected child at that with a dominatrix, sado-masochist prostitute for a mother. Her father a drunk and most likely an angry drunk.
as usual its all about mary and not the victims there was and still are young kids brought up in poor and abused backgrounds but do they go out and MURDER ? no they dont. mary bell was an evil child and all the do-gooders think more of her than the victims. there just probably out to make money out of it as usual. would they thinlk different if it was there kids that were MURDERED i think they just might
@MsSupercarter Mary was a victim as well.don't forget that.her mother was a psychopath so Mary received a bad genes from her.So there was a combination of two main factors:genetics and environment.nobody never showed her real love and she was only a suscebtible child.poor girl cos she never understood that she had committed something really bad.she was kind of brainwashed.
@Clariccy really?so shes normal??sadomasochistic prostitute who who would expose her only child to this awful practices..i feel sorry for her(Mary Bell) misery childhood in dysfunctional family.
@marqizaa A psychopath doesn't have feelings. Are you telling me the lady in the video who is distraught to the nth degree, is unemotional ? I was referring specifically to the term psychopath. The lady in the video possesses atttributes in the video psychopaths do not have.
@Clariccy ok maybe she isn't psychopath(which is hard to judge after this interview)i don't want to argue about this with u..but she is pathological and u can't deny it..a sadomasochistic person isn't normal.would u have sex in front of ur child??i really doubt.
May was only seen at Red Bank once by her mother. After that it was her father who visited her. She was sexually molested continuously by the boys and a member of staff. I have made this known to the police in 'Operation Care'.
I was 15, and I had been at Red Bank Special Unit for 6 months. It was an all-male unit, some 26-30 boys. May turned up one evening and was presented to us while we were in the dining-room having dinner. The Head of the unit said, "This is May, she will be staying here with us..."
Her life was a nightmare, the boys making sure she was sexually assaulted every day. It was another three months before another girl Julia W-K was also sent to the unit. She wa sexually abused also by one staff member.
This girl reminds me of a girl I once knew when I was in foster care. I was 16, and the girl was 11; we also lived with her 8 year old biological sister. One day, this girl took a knife and held her sister hostage in the bedroom they shared. She molested her sister at knife point, and told her that if she went to our foster parents and told, she would stab her to death. Once, I woke up, and she was in my room watching me sleep and lightly stroking my forearm. She had been terribly abused, but...
@kristinj1981 thats awful and i totally relate to your experience. i had a bad childhood and i wanted to help other children so i fostered. the foster child abused us all, with a knife too. nothing happened to her because she didnt kill anyone.
Wether it be pact mentality that caused this, the fact that she was mentally unstable due to her home life or even such a simple thing as being jealous of the two blonde haired, blue eyed boys, she still did it. She is not fixed. She has just learned not to do it again.....
I think when you watch the documentary 'Child of Rage' all these cases make much more sense, abuse and neglect, coupled with lack of intervention when warning signs are displayed (which in all cases they are - including Jeff Dahmer - his dad knew about his little pet cemetery by the side of their house)- inevitably leads to anti-social behavour of varying degrees.
OPEN EYES and INTERVENTION could have stopped all of these cases
But I see it her eyes... he's not "fixed"... She just knows better not to do it again. She's a sociopath.Sociopaths don't ever function through out their whole lives. I think that even if she did grow up in a "normal" household, she still would have had a screw loose. Here in the States, we had Jeffery Dahmer, one of the freakiest, most reviled serial killers in American history. And guess what...? He grew up in a totally normal, functioning home! For some reasons unexplained, some are born evil
@akeames I read the story written by his father. In that book he speaks about his wife's struggle with depression. She was on medication for it while pregnant, medication for depression while there's another life growing in the same body. Whatever you take in while pregnant the growing child gets it too.
The bulger killers dont get this felling of trying to make them better but the details of there homelife have never been reviled and for those who say they would kill them it's a pity that you have become them the day we stop fighting for other people is the day we lose the person we where b4
@beccaotaku NOW HOW THE HELL YOU KNOW THAT,WHEN THE JUDGE GRANTED HER AND THE MOTHER ANONYMITY,WHICH MEANS KNOW ONE NO THEIR WHEREABOUTS,THEY CHANGED THEIR APPEARANCE IN THE EARLY 2000'S,SO YOU COULD NOT HAVE HEARD SHE HAS KIDS OR NOTHING OF THE SORT SMDH!
@mocabbymodel If you watched Deadly Women Young Blood, they say in the end that she grew up had a daughter of her own, & never killed again. They also said the same thing in wikipedia. Your right about one thing though, I DON'T KNOW. It's just what I HEAR & besides they never revelaed her daughter or her new name.
@mocabbymodel I can answer that for you, Google is your friend, Mary Bell has had three changes of identity and eventually outed herself when she took money for her memoirs, she has been hounded all around the country where she has stayed and I very much doubt she will ever have a peaceful life. And rightly so, she should have been hung at 18.
Does anyone else notice that both boys were blond and blue eyed and the girl she attacked and tried to strangle was blond and blue eyed? She also made it a point to cut off the blond locks of the one boy. Hmmm....
I'm pretty sure she is acting her sadism out in some way, perhaps S&M just to continue to get it out and as someone here said, it's ingrained, you can't just forget it from your life once the obsession for it takes over. They sugar coat this after such a brutal murder by a little girl, it's very deep the pain and anger, doesn't just go away.
You dont just stop being a sadist. This is RADs cut and dry case. What I find disturbing about these RADs cases is they they put these kids through psychotherapy and think thats it. They are fixed. You cant undo sadism. Sorry to break it to ya shes still doing her thing just in a different way. Every RADs child would.
Thats exactly my point. The patient might find a new outlet for it but you cannot cure it. The only outlet would be to practice it on your new sexual partner. Im not sure thats satisfying though. Mary Bell never stopped being a sadist and its not her fault. I would have given anything to meet her though she fascinates me.
@kallumkadavu1 Someone should therefore get a shotgun and findout where in London she lives if this had been done in the USA she would have got 9 years to life and would probably still be in prison just like Eric Smith!
sure, society is overly apologetic, eg when it comes to criminals shooting policemen who are being presented as victims of society (like right now in london)
but this wretched little girl got involved in sadomasochistic prostitution by and with her mother at the age of 4 -- can you imagine what this alone (apart from all the other things she went through) causes in such a kid being nearly a baby still?? think about it before you judge that one
What a load of crock. An 11 year old knows that killing is wrong regardless of whether they could care less about another human etc. Psychiatrists love to psycho analyse and find excuses for people like these i.e. unfortunate backgrounds etc. Its amusing that all of these people that commit crimes and are "mentally unstable" dont go round doing good in the community, just bad. Excuses, excuses
Bullshit !!!!!! i was abused when i was a child i didn't killed any one and i am a good parent , i am also a very nice person i love God and every one is equal in my eyes i hate excuses any one who kills made that choice , excuse my english is my second language.

11Katsmith 1 month ago
Whether her acts are excusable because of her upbringing & environment or not, it's not worth the risk of letting her walk among us. And even if she is able to be free, she should never have been able to have kids of her own. The fact that she killed children, specifically, shows that she's not trustworthy to be around, let alone raise, children, even her own. Her victims weren't even old enough to have kids of their own. She destroyed that possibility when they were still children themselves.

any-one who commits a crime so twisted should never be released no- matter what age they were when they done it. it's all sad about their childhoods but to do something so evil to a very small child ? it's obvious they have no remorse or empathy to do something so evil so why let them out?

@marqizaa i had a life just as bad as these children and i havent done what they have done. within our individual personalities there are those of us who choose to be good and those who choose to be evil because of our upbringing. there is no excuse for what mary done. there are millions of sexual abused surviours but one or two cases like this?
MsHofling 1 month ago
@MsHofling remember never judge anybody cos u may know just one side of story..just because u had this kind of experience it doesn't mean that others experience was similar..for ur information i was molested when i was little but i feel normal..i have family,i try to give a lot of love to my kid.some kids are just vulnerable, some have bad genes and apparently have dysfunctional families..everything is about statistics..
marqizaa 1 month ago
my point precisely! i would not judge people due to their up bringing and stereotype but when it invoves the murder of two vulnerable children then i can judge. If genetics did play a part then surely their characteristics cannot be reversed therefore i think mary should have been securely locked up indefinitely..
MsHofling 1 month ago
This story is in may ways inspiring, agitating and intriguing. The over whelming feeling I get is to want to hug my children and hold them closer, so that they feel the love I want to give them, so they can share it with those closest to them, if not, to at the least be empathetic to others and the world. </3 :''(

@jennnls1983 She wasn't evil. She was a child. A neglected child at that with a dominatrix, sado-masochist prostitute for a mother. Her father a drunk and most likely an angry drunk.

as usual its all about mary and not the victims there was and still are young kids brought up in poor and abused backgrounds but do they go out and MURDER ? no they dont. mary bell was an evil child and all the do-gooders think more of her than the victims. there just probably out to make money out of it as usual. would they thinlk different if it was there kids that were MURDERED i think they just might
MsSupercarter 2 months ago
@MsSupercarter Mary was a victim as well.don't forget that.her mother was a psychopath so Mary received a bad genes from her.So there was a combination of two main factors:genetics and environment.nobody never showed her real love and she was only a suscebtible child.poor girl cos she never understood that she had committed something really bad.she was kind of brainwashed.
marqizaa 2 months ago
@marqizaa The mother doesn't come across as a psychopath, at all.

@Clariccy really?so shes normal??sadomasochistic prostitute who who would expose her only child to this awful practices..i feel sorry for her(Mary Bell) misery childhood in dysfunctional family.
marqizaa 1 month ago
@marqizaa A psychopath doesn't have feelings. Are you telling me the lady in the video who is distraught to the nth degree, is unemotional ? I was referring specifically to the term psychopath. The lady in the video possesses atttributes in the video psychopaths do not have.
Clariccy 1 month ago
@Clariccy ok maybe she isn't psychopath(which is hard to judge after this interview)i don't want to argue about this with u..but she is pathological and u can't deny it..a sadomasochistic person isn't normal.would u have sex in front of ur child??i really doubt.

@marqizaa Pointing out someone has traits a psychopath does not have, doesn't equal not feeling sorry for someone who had a hard childhood, either.

May was only seen at Red Bank once by her mother. After that it was her father who visited her. She was sexually molested continuously by the boys and a member of staff. I have made this known to the police in 'Operation Care'.
ThePartyNeverSleeps 3 months ago
I was 15, and I had been at Red Bank Special Unit for 6 months. It was an all-male unit, some 26-30 boys. May turned up one evening and was presented to us while we were in the dining-room having dinner. The Head of the unit said, "This is May, she will be staying here with us..."
Her life was a nightmare, the boys making sure she was sexually assaulted every day. It was another three months before another girl Julia W-K was also sent to the unit. She wa sexually abused also by one staff member.
ThePartyNeverSleeps 3 months ago
This girl reminds me of a girl I once knew when I was in foster care. I was 16, and the girl was 11; we also lived with her 8 year old biological sister. One day, this girl took a knife and held her sister hostage in the bedroom they shared. She molested her sister at knife point, and told her that if she went to our foster parents and told, she would stab her to death. Once, I woke up, and she was in my room watching me sleep and lightly stroking my forearm. She had been terribly abused, but...
kristinj1981 3 months ago
@kristinj1981 thats awful and i totally relate to your experience. i had a bad childhood and i wanted to help other children so i fostered. the foster child abused us all, with a knife too. nothing happened to her because she didnt kill anyone.

Wether it be pact mentality that caused this, the fact that she was mentally unstable due to her home life or even such a simple thing as being jealous of the two blonde haired, blue eyed boys, she still did it. She is not fixed. She has just learned not to do it again.....
MrZinty 3 months ago
I think when you watch the documentary 'Child of Rage' all these cases make much more sense, abuse and neglect, coupled with lack of intervention when warning signs are displayed (which in all cases they are - including Jeff Dahmer - his dad knew about his little pet cemetery by the side of their house)- inevitably leads to anti-social behavour of varying degrees.
OPEN EYES and INTERVENTION could have stopped all of these cases
0Wednesdayschild0 3 months ago

Whatever you take in while pregnant the growing child gets it too.

beccaotaku 4 months ago
@mocabbymodel I can answer that for you, Google is your friend, Mary Bell has had three changes of identity and eventually outed herself when she took money for her memoirs, she has been hounded all around the country where she has stayed and I very much doubt she will ever have a peaceful life. And rightly so, she should have been hung at 18.

@Reneelwaring Are you reffering to the eyes and blonde wig the mother is wearing ?
I do not believe Mary trolled for a certain style.
That is consequential. Her kills were primitive, not so very pre determined.
These were casual kills. She was experimenting, in her way.
As we did.....challenging our parents. Kissing other kids.
She was playing in her way.

Pimpintology 6 months ago 21
@Pimpintology agreed. You do not stop being a sadist, it's something ingrained in a person.

@ElleFinita
Thats exactly my point. The patient might find a new outlet for it but you cannot cure it. The only outlet would be to practice it on your new sexual partner. Im not sure thats satisfying though. Mary Bell never stopped being a sadist and its not her fault. I would have given anything to meet her though she fascinates me.

sure, society is overly apologetic, eg when it comes to criminals shooting policemen who are being presented as victims of society (like right now in london)
but this wretched little girl got involved in sadomasochistic prostitution by and with her mother at the age of 4 -- can you imagine what this alone (apart from all the other things she went through) causes in such a kid being nearly a baby still?? think about it before you judge that one
MoveOverCasanova 6 months ago
What a load of crock. An 11 year old knows that killing is wrong regardless of whether they could care less about another human etc. Psychiatrists love to psycho analyse and find excuses for people like these i.e. unfortunate backgrounds etc. Its amusing that all of these people that commit crimes and are "mentally unstable" dont go round doing good in the community, just bad. Excuses, excuses
