@cdr248 not straight away, soviet gov thought it would leave it for a day to clean up its mess, it failed and so many people died, my uncle was in the military and he was sent to chernobyl for 3 months, (only allowed 1 week of service if radiation is involved) he died of radiation poisoning. so did hundreds of others. heck some people still stayed in Chernobyl and live there still (no where to go)
