  • Murphy took a head dive onto his nose a few days ago. Anybody have any news on that?

  • Okay the reason why the dragon was a no show for a long time was during the media event of the unveiling of the new show aspects, there was a problem with the spitting of the fire, so it lit the liquid that was in the tube that runs up the spine of the dragon thus catching the head and neck and back onfire.

Also the skin was too heavy for the structure of the dragon itself so it snapped the neck also.

  • I saw it August 2009 just a week before my birthday and the dragon also did not make its appearance.

Luckily, from where I was standing one of the Disney employees was next to me as well to make sure the show went along okay.

When the dragon didn't appear, I was able to ask what was wrong. He said that the dragon was experiencing technical difficulties with its movements and also the fire-breathing effect. Plus, because of its new size and weight, it was capable of getting stuck on its way out.

Luckily when I came back first week of January 2010, the dragon was fixed and was now up to show. And MAN, was it AMAZING!

  • In late August, I went to go see the talked about dragon. Everyone (even the workers) were saying that the dragon was going to be there. Imagine my dissapointment when I saw a projection screen dragon and not the one I had expected! I had gone their specifically to see fanrasmic, and the fireworks (Which were AWESOME!) I hope they keep the dragon going so I can see it.

  • The dragon debuted yesterday! BD

It looks great. A bit stiff, but still great. I am SO going to disneyland to see this. Now I think it's time for disneyworld to get a new dragon!

  • Yep bonk- whatever your name is.... U got it! Just reaffirming this! There's also a low quality (unfortunatley) image of Murphy in broad daylight on micechat! Murphy will rear her head at the 8:15 show tomorrow night! Somebody PLEASE get film! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Sooooooooooooo excited!

  • alrighty, thought I'd come back and give you guys and gals a update. The Dragon made a test run about one week ago in the wee hours of the morning. She did go thru all of her motions and several eye witnesses, said she appears to be functioning properly. HOWEVER, do not get your hopes up just yet on her immediate return. Due to the extensive failures the Dragon had in the first place, Disney has opted to keep her in testing, something they should have done in the first place.

  • They actually been doing the whole dress rehearsal with the dragon last couple of nights. From what i can see it's going to be an aewsome show.

  • yeah. I've just been getting news trickling back from cast members working with the show. I've not seen it myself, but I've been hearing that the tests are going good but to not expect it anytime soon. Like at the very very earliest, Labor Day weekend. Who knows. I'm excited either way. The dragon is my favorite part of the show.

  • So i take it that you also work there. I work the graveyard shift. Not to brag but it's neat to watch them perform. That dragon for sure is going to be the star of the show : )

  • i was there yesterday and the dragon was there /belive me it was worth the wait/it looks very realistic/spread the word

  • It was no there

  • Comment removed

  • funny. I was guest control on the River two nights ago. No Dragon.

  • so, i know what happened because the inside word was spread through disney to me. haha, oh the joys of working there. anywho, the dragons head didnt fall off i promise you. but they are having to fix part of it. its nothing along the lines of it being too big. its just extremly complex. i hope it works soon. :]

  • Still waiting...

  • its broken

  • I think Maleficent's powers are just too weak right now for her to turn herself into a dragon.

  • Comment removed

  • Hello all. I got good news and bad news from the most reliable Disney message board. The bad news is that Fantasmic! will not be performed starting mid- September regardless of Murphy being ready or not. The good news is tests are going well, so we may get to see her perform!

  • so is there a chance of her performing on august 16

  • where is this disney msg board at?msg me the site

  • As long as it's ready by the time December rolls around, I'm not too annoyed by it.

  • august 16

  • i simply heard that the new dragon doesn't fit into the retrofitted pit that the original dragon occupied.

hence why it is in pieces.

its kind of understandable that such a huge mechanical beast would not be ready for such a quick debut considering how long it would take to build it, test it in its performing location, and do whatever else that needs to be done.

can't build something without enough space. thats all.

  • See, when you post comments saying "this is all the information Disney has released", you are posting press releases. Disney spins everything. I have friends working on it and the dragon fell on itself, crushing the armature. It's is in pieces under Tom Sawyers Island and the last thing I was told was that they don't expect it to be in until MAYBE December.

  • hopefully Disney learns from this and we have a Dragon soon. But knowing Disney "later this summer" will translate into "August 30th"....I just can't believe someone was stupid enough to wire the E stop and the hydraulics together. oh well. There is a test run scheduled for later this week I think. let's cross our fingers and hope for the best, shall we?

  • I heard that the dragon won't appear until fall

  • but Disney continues to push to have things ready by a certain date, and just skimp on the testing, as usual. *eye roll*...anyhow...I've been hearing this Dragon is scheduled to make her debut once she makes a SINGLE successful test run....probably making the techs and puppeteers shit themselves from terror and worry on if it'll fall apart mid-show. Anyhow...I think the pieces have been rebuilt. And it's cost Disney a lot to correct the error that could have been easily avoided.

  • I know what happened. The "E-Stop" aka "The Houston we have a problem!" button that ALL huge mechnical things at Disney has was wired poorly. See, the dragon has a E-stop in case an emergency happens and its supposed to "halt motion." Instead the hydraulic system, which is tied into the "e-stop" malfunctioned. the Dragon in essence imploded on itself, which broke several neck segments and I think her jaw as well. It was a stupid mistake and Disney should have caught this error.

  • Around 3 am last night i was speaking to one of the tech that works on the dragon & they were saying that the Safety Management Team keeps wanting to add safety features on the dragon. That keeps putting them back each time.

  • no still not

  • did the dragon return on july 17, disneyland's birthday?

  • Anyone going to Disneyland today? Ill be there

  • I just got back from Disney and the dragon was a no show. All the info sites say that disney says it will be out "later this summer" so what is that? the 29th of august? *rolls eyes* I still think the new show is awesome but it just looks so stupid with Maleficent just standing there balancing on a pillar. Oh, and I didn't see the eels at all though that could have been because I was sitting at the cafe.

  • R2d233de- That is a no. :[

I saw a post from a person who was there that night, and they said that the dragon was not used. Word on the message boards right now is that the dragon will not be ready until Labor Day! ARGHHHHHH! Unfortunate, but Disney has to do what Disney has to do. I hope the powers that be in Disneyland learn from this........

  • Stagegod, how long have you been a former disneyland employee? And what did you do there? (If you can tell us.)

  • Did The Dragon Make her debut.. on DL's Birthday?

  • Since I am no longer with Disney, I have no issues with saying this.

The dragon is out until September! Allow me to explain the "one week out answers".

Most vacations are 7 to 10 days. Most tourist see FANTASMIC between day 3 and 5 (first few days, everyone is too tired to wait HOURS to see the show). So, Disney gambles with saying it should be up in a week or two so it makes it seem like a small issue but you are LONG gone before the week is up. As an Entertainment Tech, SEPT. Earliest

  • So let me get this strate. First, I heard they would debut the dragon in July 13. But one time, I still see construction since July 13. Oh well. I hope the WILL finish fixing the dragon this friday. If not, then DAMN IT!

  • Another update reference from a Disney message board: "The Forbidden Eye 11:46 PM Yesterday

As of tonight, still no dragon. They're aiming for friday for sure. The dragon's repairs are almost or completly done and all thats left now is testing after-hours.

So lets keep our hopes up for this Friday."

So whoever said friday... U are one informed Disney fan.

  • yea, jtelasky is right. the 40 footer snapped her neck. me and my friends wanted to know what was goin on with her cuz it was our second time and still no dragon. she told us the dragon snapped its neck and they shipped her off to be repaired as soon as possible. oh i hope shes back in time!!!

  • ugh X_X I was soooo excited for the new dragon >_>

hmm...if its suppose to be fixed soon I guess I can go one day this week

I don't get why they didn't just use the old dragon though while the new one was a no show, the weird column just looked retarded out there by itself...

  • The old dragon is long gone also the new dragon is where the old dragon used to be.

  • Well, if anyone remembers, and I do, because I worked there, the original dragon also had problems. It was supposed to look just like the one in the commercials with the grasping hands. When it leaned down to light the lake on fire, it caught the dragon on fireand the whole thing went up in flames. So, it just became the head and neck with puppet wings. They just covered it witha lot of smoke.

  • Hey bdivab, I just wanted you to know that I am not deleting your comments. I encourage comments by viewers, but I would never delete them. Maybe it is a glitch of some sort, sorry for the inconvinence!

  • Read this on micechat "While TDA managers work behind the scenes to try and figure out how to handle the contractor who built the dragon (and who is also building Universal's big new King Kong up in Hollywood), technicians and engineers are working down in the pit nearly every day now making repairs to the dragon's infrastructure. While the situation is still very fluid, the latest info we have as of this post is that the dragon could debut as early as Monday, July 13." ^_^

  • Well it's supposed to be up and running this weekend according to wikipedia. It said the new dragon was to be fully operational on July 4th. I am really stoked to see it so whoever is in disneyland pls upload asap!

  • I've been reading July 17th will be the date.

  • hmm....DL first opened on July 17! Coincedence?

  • I have a friend who works there and said the entire things fell, crushing most of the armature. The people at the park have been very blase' about the whole thing. I think it blows that Disney is STILL advertising the Dragon and there is none in the show. FALSE ADVERTISING, PEOPLE!

  • Actually it was not broken. They just decided to make a new one with a full body, unlike the previous dragon which only had a head mounted on an series of rods and wings. The new one will be 40 feet tall and way over 10,000 pounds! This one iss also said to have more mobility than the first. Is that exciting or what!?

  • ..... The new 40 foot tall one is the one that broke... That's what everyone is talking about....

  • it really sucks...Disney was promoting this huge dragon and it broke.....i have gone 2 or 3 times since the new Fantasmic opened and there have been sooooo many people there. last time i went they even had three shows 9, 10:30, and 11

  • Are they doing anything at the park to inform people of the broken dragon?

  • no...well when i was there they did not make any formal annoucments. when i first went after it open, someone at the Bengal BBQ told my mom and me it wasn't working as we were discussing it. i guess they only tell you if you ask

  • No. I was on the phone with them last week and they still aren't announcing it. They keep saying the show is great without the dragon. Too bad it's the thing they are promoting the most in their ads.

  • I heard it won't be ready for July 4. WHEN???

  • thanks for keeping us informed :)

  • whew, i tought i was the only one, but ya wen i went we didnt see it only maleficents grow taller [guessin the neck of the dragon] well i hope the technical difficulties get solved XP

  • i saw the show jun 16 and saw no dragon it was relplaced with melifacent being lifted up screaming and cakling. I asked a fantasmic jacket wearring cast member about the dragon and HE TOLD ME that they got a super awesome new dragon and it snapped it's neck during rehearsals now people are saying that its not true maybe thats what the cast members are telling the public but thats what he told me!! But also how is this untrue because rumors about this started surfacing before june 12

  • A long story short, Disney had a cheap company build it for them and it had a problem when they were testing that caused the a hydraulic line to break and leak. The thing started to droop and fall. In 5 minutes, that 10,000 pound 40 foot dragon is coming down! The neck collapsed like a telescope and the head came down (not off!). BANG! It's a big mess of metal and broken fiberglass. It almost killed two tech guys.

The earliest it can premier is July 4th, but there's no guarantee of that.

  • They should have added in more villains as well

  • Anyone hear any updates? I have prefered seating on July 12th. Hope it's ready by then!

  • Im pretty sure it will be ready then. Very exciting!

  • That is what this vid is about...

  • Its not even a technical problem...havnt u herd...Disney took out the Original Dragon which was a Giant Puppet and are replacing it with a more Advanced and LifeLike AudioAnimatronic Dragon but will still have its Original Design...They' v been stalling cuz they didnt finish it in time and are still working on it!!!

  • I went on 06/16 and was dissapointed that the dragon wasn't their but I asked one of the employees what had happened and she told me the dragon was'nt completed on time and its still in construction.

  • Ok, EVERYONE listen, here is what happened. The dragons neck broke, possibly the movement of the neck, and Disney had to take off the head in order to fix the neck. So, the head did NOT fall off, it was taken off to fix the neck.

  • Thank You : )

  • Ok, so I see that many people are now saying they saw the head fall off, so maybe it did happen, but if so, Disney did lie.

  • I am beginning to confirm the head did in fact fall off, I will confirm later..

  • Oh, and please dont add any dumb, mean comments, because its not my fault the wrong info was givin to me, thanks!

  • Maybe somebody died in a freak accident, and Disney is covering it up.

  • I work the graveyard shift there & i was standing in front of the mansion, looking at the dragon. i saw the upper part of the dragon which is the neck & head erected from the body suddenly drop. The head was still connected to the neck..

  • I heard from an inside worker at disneyland that the dragons head did in fact...FALL OFF!!

  • So does anyone here know of a video with this supposed 'Mist Dragon'? D|

  • Thanks for posting this info...so many things I have heard from CM about this dragon. Thank Godness I warned my friends who don't work at disney a few days before it was set to make its grand debute. The one thing I heard from a CM is that not all the parts were even ready for the dragon due to the co. fab-ing it and was behind. But maybe this ties into it breaking, late parts not enough time to check and broken dragon. I think its horrid that Disney didn't state it wouldnt be ready beforehand :(

  • well i went on 6/15/09 and a fantasmic! cast member told me that a hydraulic pump in its neck ruptured causing the head to indeed fall off however if you ask most cast members will say that the dragon is "in training" and that the estimated date of return is some time in july they had the same types of hydraulic problems with the snake on the indiana jones ride and thats why for many months the snake did not move.

  • At first, cast members could say anything about the dragon so many said its head fell off. I have heard MANY different stories about the dragon, but Disney now clarifies that the head did not fall off. The earliest the dragon will return is July 4th. I also watched the show on 6/15/09! I sat in the front, where did you sit?

  • front near the pirates lair sign but i'll tell you disney is notorious for lying to the guests i have also been reading the official press releases but i guess the only way to really know is to be working there right now lol. but the point is they should at least put it on the website that the damn thing is down

  • Mark VII???

  • i just think the dragon is exactly broke i just think it is stoping and jerking so it's not looking real but my oppinion

  • suppose to go on the 24th. UGHHH not excited anymore :/

  • i was supposed to go on the 24th too

  • I thought it was the 4th of July?

  • Hope this does not turn out like the issues they are having with the Mark VII.

  • everybody is saying something different. Some people say it'll come back in July, some say in two weeks. Does anyone know for sure?

  • When the dragon first broke, Disney said it would take only a few day. But after further examination, Disney now says the latest it will be in is July 4th.

  • I Really Want To See The Dragon Too.

  • this makes me sooooo mad. disney should've made sure that the dragon worked before they sent out a date. I'm going on the 24th just to see the dragon and idk what i'm gonna do now. I seriously can't believe this

  • Something must have gone REALLY wrong, Disney now says the earliest the dragon will be in is July 4th.

  • i think it is really big issues with first off, the weight of the dragon itself, 10,000 pounds! and this is the girst time where it has a whole body, so there could be a lot of wiring, not done correctly inside.

  • Comment removed

  • Well Like AvatarRoku said they should Have tested it.. but my issue is that The Commercials where still running this week and a Cast member was saying that the dragon was not working properly and that it will reappear soon... they should change there commercials or at least apologize to all the People who sat in the banks of the Rivers Of America since 11 am! yesterday..

I went yesterday but I Knew about the dragon since my friend works there.. and told us also..

  • Thank you! I was told "The dragon has stage fright".

    WHA?!

Folks at Disney don't care, they aren't announcing the dragon is not in the show and they are STILL advertising it all over Southern California. They should be ashamed for lying to their guests.

  • I think they should have tested it a few more times before acutally having a date to daybu it( dont know how to spell it) but its disney so meh

  • What do you think happened to the dragon? Post it here on the comments! I think that the dragon was so large that the structure of it couldnt hold the weight so the PR machine shut it down and disney needs to reconstruct it.
