  • awesome when i get a famicom ill get one for myself

  • Great video, do you have journey to silius or gyruss on the nes?

  • Will this play on the usa nes? if I use the chip that lets you play japanese games. do you think it would fit on a side loader???

  • @tricksterD8 It could but it would be best to also have a game genie attached to extend out further to be safe, make sure you have some thing for the thing to rest level to the nes cartridge slot on, aka, put a pillow or something under the massive cartridge so you wont accidentally disconnect. :D

  • Nice review dude! Too bad you didn't show the soccer game at all.

  • 5:38 Quick! What is his power level?

    IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAND!

  • Very cool little attachment. With the whole generic barcode thing, it almost seems like the Monster Rancher series where you can load different monsters into the game from random CDs!

Great videos, my friend. And thank you for subscribing.

  • Man thats pretty neat for back then. A prelude to Pokemon lol.

  • When using regular bar codes, do they generate different stats for different characters? Could you get two bar codes generate the same character but with different stats? If so, that's pretty neat and could lead to a fun game of hide and seek! Nice video, this has pushed me over to definitely getting a Famicom.

  • @kuroichaos Yeah! I've gotten several of each character with household UPC's and the stats are always different. Some of the homemade cards have better stats than the ones in the set.

The cards I made years ago are pretty primitive though but with the capture devices and decent photo paper, you could probably make very cool expansion sets or something.

  • @NEScapades Thanks Gibby, I'll have to pick one up.

  • reminds me of Skannerz UPC Scanner Game. i have a e reader and some games and mario party card game too.

  • That is really cool and it's awesome you can make your own with basically any upc. I checked on ebay because I might have to get one of these and they have a few brand new with the dbz game for 50 bucks with free shipping. Awesome video man!

  • @tweirup - That's a good deal imo. Everything brand new plus the complete DBZ card set. The game isn't the greatest as a single player fighter but it's great fun with a second player

  • I've never seen that, But then again I'm not huge in to the Famicom or Super Famicom. Japan always has and always dose get the best stuff :( sometimes it's almost enough to make want to me go take classes to learn a new language lol. yea I would have totally been addicted to this as a kid if it had have been released over here. I love reviews on odd things like this that are sort of out there and not known very well, keep up the good work dude.

  • That is mighty cool, man. Never even heard of that Datach sucker. Great stuff!

  • @RyHoMagnifico Thanks RyHo!

  • I love the DBZ game!!

  • @HappyConsoleGamer Being a fighting nut, I figure you would. =)

This game has simplistic controls but they are generally spot on. The flying element makes it even cooler and this is obviously where the Budokai games were born from.

Unfortunately most people remember the shitty Final Bout and Ultimate Battle 22 as being the first DBZ fighting games they ever played.

  • wow you know your stuff j, allways wanted to know how these worked the dbz game is really awesome and that mario phone is badass haha

  • @DavidLeeT ..nah, I just know a lot of useless NES information lol

Nice catch on the Mario Phone in the background. I'm not moving it like troubl8385 does his games though =P

  • Bad Ass dude! What a rare piece to have for your collection! Do you have a Game Axe? :)

  • @jillpoo3 Thx man. Yeah, I have the Game Axe. I paid a bit more for mine than you did though LOL.. I bought it new when it first came out. It's a pretty cool handheld but I like the "Game Theory Admiral" much better.

  • gohan and trunks off of food barcodes priceless lol lucky the cards arent that hard to find good up if you get the ultraman or gundam joint roms can you please up gameplay of thoses

  • @Perkinson78 I'll be glad to make gameplay of those if I pick them up. I may even do a video on the DBZ sometime when I can put the camera down and play head to head with one of my brothers or my kid

  • hahahahahaha that's pretty cool i love those add ons that old systems have !! nice video big G thanks for showing it!!!

  • @RaulBillieJean Thanks for watching RBJ =)

  • Sweet lord that thing is freaking EPIC!!! Whenever I finally get a Famicom I will have to hunt one of these baby's down. That DBZ music is catchy as hell too!!! Awesome stuff Gibby!!

  • @stratamaster78 Thanks Heath! Shame they didn't release more titles for it though. Even without this thing, you'll have lots of fun with a famicom if you get one.

  • awesome Gibby, i've been waiting for some one to talk about this item i've seen one of these posted on ebay for about a year now and it comes with dragonball z and i've always been interested to hear what this actually is. and love the way you took barcodes of items from around the house lol i can't believe that works! :o superb video

  • @Chipsturs The Brand New ones on ebay are a nice price since they have the DBZ cart and all 40 cards released for the game. The other carts don't pop up on eBay to often though.

I got mine loose, with about 10-15 cards, from a guy I used to buy from on Yahoo auctions years ago.

  • This is a really cool concept, like the bonus character stuff Gamestop does now, except on a physical copy and back in the day. Awesome!

  • Great review Gibby!! I actually dig this concept as well! Wow. I didn't know you could use other types of barcodes for that. Nice! Also the dragonball game looks pretty solid with parallaxed background and stuff! I might pick this up! I heard there's a extremely rare yuyu hakusho version too...

  • @PhatPhunk I didn't know it could either and just scanned something out of curiosity. When the stats came up I was amazed and started grabbed tons of UPC's from stuff around the house. The DBZ game appears to be the most fun of the lot.

  • The only other fighting game for the NES that I can think of was Double Dragon 2 or 3. I think it was part 2.

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom - Your thinking of "DD5 Shadow Falls" but it was on the Genny/SNES. I always thought that one was kind of crap.

The only licensed fighters I can think of off the top of my head for NES was Karate Champ & TMNT Tournament Fighters. There was also Street Heroes by Sachen.

Master System had some ports but I'd still wager there were less than 10 fighters on 8-bit consoles making this a neat title to own.

  • I just realized too that the music in the DBZ game rules!

  • Oh man, that thing is pretty awesome. I'm assuming you still need to use a pass through converter (72-60 pin) on your top loader to run it right? I really need to grab one of those things.

  • @snowcon3 - Yeah, you have to use a converter but luckily this thing doesn't need separate cords or power cables like 32X or anything.

I might try to nab the Battle Rush game sometime since it's a fighter as well. Though it doesn't look nearly as good as the DBZ.

  • Awesome, I didn't know there was barcode reader for the Famicom and I'm a pretty big NES nerd.

  • @starsoldier1 - I probably wouldn't have known about it either Ryan, cept I bought a large lot of famicoms about 10-12 yrs ago and the Soccer cart was in the lot. It was much harder digging info up on this thing back then. I eventually found some untranslated site about it and later bought the system from a Yahoo auction.

  • Congratualtions for great buy,too bad that Datach Joint Rom System/ never get outside Japan

  • @metalcoola - It would've been a great add-on in other regions for sure. WWF wrestlers, players in MLB, NBA, NFL, Characters in the GI Joe games etc..

  • Orville has popped his last corn in this battle thats cool though

  • @JasonRelaxation - Ha, yup.. would've been better had my son been home for a real bout with those. I might have to review the game sometime with a Celebrity deathmatch style lineup. I'm curious what a DBZ PS1 or PS2 UPC would pull up.. lol.. some undiscovered easter egg from the future.

  • lol The dragon ball z game is easy to find? is that why I've never seen or heard of this let alone the games? :) very cool though.

  • @Playalives - LOL.. yeah. it's not easy to find in general terms but it's kind of like Sonic 2 or Super Mario Bros. Meaning that if you find the system, that DBZ game is likely attached to it, since it was the pack-in game. It's difficult to find overall but the easiest of the seven by far. =)
