@muis786 Sure there is. You can't hypnotize someone against their will. Hypnotizing someone without their knowledge is not the same thing. If you are actively analyzing all conversations and interactions, you will be impossible to put into a trance. That's easier said than done though - especially when it comes to people you know and trust (like your dad's friend), or those you interact with as part of a mundane, boring, low paying job. Eventually you'd lower your guard.

This actually makes sense. He was able to "hypnotize" the clerks who were inside their stores, doing mundane tasks, and probably in a bored sort of trance to begin with. Just like the grocery store videos. But when he tries it on a street vendor who almost has to be more alert and on guard to deal with the masses of people around him, it fails. Interesting.
