I agree, the news team seem to be treating it like it is some sort of crazy thing that only crazy people would want to do. It actually looks kind of fun.
I find it fascinating that the most pressing question seems to be "why do you do this". What answer could you possibly expect?
It was what my mother wanted? If I don't play unicycle hockey once a week the shadow things will take over? I evaluated all possible sports on a range of criteria and found that this was the optimal choice based on my preferences for upper/lower body exercise, intellectual stimulation, and proximity to where I live?
