I love 30s music for the very reason it works BEST in horror movies.... imean seriously just take a scene from some horror movie, add the music in your head and its like OMG WTF
One thing that is really scary about this is that if someone told me it was made yesterday, I would believe it -- it doesn't SOUND "old". In fact, there is a certain power and spontaneity in it that nothing even in the 'rock era' can match.
aahahahah, i find this image is hilarious. the uploader- werent you on gaia a long while ago? if you were, (i can't remember the name) this is how i found out about the boswell sisters. i love them, thanks. :)
this is the ultimate bioshock song i mean if it was like this song when you were fighting something it would be reasly funny like owning people to a nice little tune lol
Like many pieces of music, this is even better appreciated after several hearings than it is the first time. The song itself and the beautifully consistent intonations of the close harmony are truly a pleasure to hear. Another reason the music is better appreciated after several hearings is that it's kind of difficult to get past that gruesome picture. It's definitely not good to stare at that picture too long...
The ghoul picture seems appropriate to me. New Orleans spirituals are a macabre marriage of real horror, fear and folklore, that fits right in with our fascination with the real elemental battles being fought down there.
@zetaro128 It's one of the illustrations for the "children's" book series Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, drawn by Stephen Gammell. I honestly have no idea what the fuck they were thinking in making them so goddamn scary for a book intended adolescent children such as myself when it came out.
If you look into his eyes you can see he is slowly getting closer.

Love the song, but the dude really creeped me out (I guess he's there in reference to the Devil, who turns up in the song).

@vestolorde1
I think it´s based on a spiritial song from the south. I´m not sure but it sounds like a song black folks would sing at pentacostal churches.

Heard this performed on Prairie Home Companion performed by a more recent group. I like both versions equally.
Also, isn't that picture from Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark?
