Patty is my biggest inspiration when it comes to songwriting.... my greatest wish would be to record a song with her someday.... I actually emailed her this week to ask her that! you what they say.... if you don't ask, you'll never know....... JDx
Some people are born to sing and write songs. Pure genius is what she is. She's among the very best and it's too bad she's not as recognized as she should be.
I never knew she was the original songwriter to this, I always thought the dixie chicks were. I'd have to say both versions are amazing, but damn she wrote such a beautiful song, which isn't easy. So props to her.
It was originally recorded for "Silver Bell" in 2000, but the album was shelved and never released. You can find it online, though. She re-recorded it for "Impossible Dream" in 2004. Beautiful album.
Thanks goes to PBS for helping introduce truly great artists, like Patty, to the world.
As you listen and watch this woman as she performs, it's easy to see that her artistry in singing and songwriting is quite simply at the "Top of the World"
she does a marvelous job and wrote the song really really well, i i find this version beautiful but the dixie chicks cover, is so moving it brings tears to my eyes, the way they arragned it and the instrumental backing is jsut so beautiful patty must have had faith that they could pull it off and she was right
I have aspirations to be half the writer Patty is! She just has a knack for stirring that place in your soul few artists have the capability of reaching these days.
I've listened to Patty for years, but I never heard this song until this morning. It knocked me over, which is what truly great songs, and songwriters, do. Thanks.
Yep gc. I saw her on Public television about 10 years ago. It's a shame that someone like this isn't more popular. A hidden gem. "There's a whole lot of singin' that's never gonna be heard", very poignant coming from her.
Exactly, I agree with you on every word you said. Nowadays everybody can sing along to Lady Gaga and her million copies but nobody really pays attention to the lyrical shape of a song anymore, yet at the same time the artistic ability to express oneself lyrically still co-exists hence the line you mentioned. It's a sad world we live in. Beautiful piece of music as to render any musical production ever since nearly irrelevant.
@gcbfolk I discovered her through the DC's as well, I believe it was because of Let Him Fly. That song just blew my mind was stood out from the rest of their songs and thank you Patty!
I discovered Patty the same way....through the Dixie Chicks........and glad I did. What a great way to put it......"Found the source of the river"......my thoughts exactly. The more I explore her tunes, the more I am pulled in. This version is wonderful
I can't enjoy this because it's skipping . . .
