tragically will have about 40 fat oxygen thief wrens on-board that'll make it sit to low in the water and reduce its effectiveness by half and most of the officers will be english upper middle-class buffoons....(lol just saying....rumour I heard, only repeating what was said) What what toodel pip look what daddies given me to play with my very own Destroyer haw haw. Looks very good, should play hardcore thrash music to it though, man up. Ffs
The ship is beautiful. Shame the gov are only down for 6 of them. They should equip our navy properly instead of wasting billions of money on other stupid "aid" projects to countries who don't use the money wisely. We need at least 12 of these (at the very least). The UK still has overseas territories to protect and let's not keep cutting the fleet like they are now doing with the frigates.
It was a serious mistake not to put Harpoon anti ship missles on these things. Idiots running the country
they should of built the full 12, ah well they need more destroyers, either build another 6 t45s or join the french italian FREMM project and get 6 of thoses.....why not?
Whatever keeps RN presence on world oceans. Acts as deterrent, has historical maritime ties to any of a 100 places around globe, maritime choke-points still important & UK either controls or has close access to some of the most vital. Understand the Empire is gone, yeah I know, but does not diminish need for at least some presence by RN. Doesnt have to be fleets, just s-o-m-e-t-h-i-n-g.
That is great news. Almost too much to believe that finally, after all these years, Britain is back in the carrier business. I admit I'm biased, my mother was from Southampton. When I was about 9 or 10 yrs old, (this would be early 60's) The 1st carrier I ever set foot on was HMS Victorious when it visited San Diego. Fantastic that the nation that invented them will once again be operating them. BTW,nothing against Invincible-class they are great ships, just too small & limited.
@matapan50 Construction began on HMS Queen Elizabeth (R08) 2 years ago and is expected to enter service in 2019, not sure what going on with HMS Prince of Wales (R09) but its meant to enter extended readiness in 2023.

Beautiful ship. Has actual construction started yet on Britain's new aircraft carriers? Is there a chance the UK gov is going to cancel them?
