  • This is another evidence of the racism that Ethiopians have towards the blacks tribes living , in Ethiopia, we all know that the dam will only affected those tribes , Ethiopians should be ashamed , one day the black man will take Africa back to those smelly arabs invaders and their offspring , Ethiopians and Somalis

  • British Government is heavily invested in Egypt and Kenya ! ! BBC is a British news agency ! USA supports you Ethiopia .

  • stupid peoples like you care: we have been living in the darkness for ever: now when we try to see little light it is hurtfull for you stupid westerns right; just leave us alone; this is our issue;

  • Mr BBC journalist and all those who have a word to say against ET govmt's dam construction... Do you think western govmt asked their population opinion before building Nuclear Centrals in their cities!? At least this electrical power project is CLEAN from Radio-activity!!! As Dr Twolde Berhane Gebre says it @8:00 I don't care for what you say... with da'smile please!!!

  • @moccoyen Artist Teddy afro title of the song Lambadina remix

  • If the Irish Catholics, Irish Protestant, English, Wales, Sudanese, Egyptians, etc,, can share natural resources & manage to build destiny, so can Africans.

Sadly, the ethnic minority Tigray Apartheid in Ethiopian palace, is too busy wasting Ethiopian resources, shopping for arms & waging wars against Ethiopians, Eritreans & Somalis, while the Ethiopian people continue to suffer through endless wars, famines & disease, courtesy of the ethnic war-lords in Ethiopian palace.

  • BBC, british propaganda bs and enemy of Africa. Why not report on why Ethiopia can't use the Blue Nile water (british meddling ) and all the crimes that are committed on the continent by the british.

  • @DACKWEZE I think you're missing the point here: it's not a case of "Britain vs Ethiopia." This dam will be devastating for Ethiopians and Kenyans if it goes ahead. The River Omo supplies 80% of Turkana's water, and the Lake is already shrinking. Please take a look at the organisations Friends of Lake Turkana or International Rivers to find out more.

  • Environmental impact studies are critical! We now know that the western industrial revolution is a flawed...non of them are sustainable. However, In the case of Ethiopia, it is really difficult to consider the environmental price that had to be paid over development.

  • @DACKWEZE It seems the long terms costs arising from the construction of the dam will outweight the benefits the dam will bring (such as electricity for local people)...The River Omo supplies 80% of Turkana's water. Turkana is already shrinking from climate change, and tribes are being forced to move away fuelling conflicts over water and land. If the dam is constructed Turkana will shrink even more. Check out the organisations Friends of Lake Turkana or International Rivers.

  • these white people are funny......wow

  • fuck bbc

  • haha these europians inslaved ppl and stole ppl land for their development and now they are trying to tell us not to use our own resorces.

  • @vincevince801 ...it is the TURKANA not the foreigners telling you to avoid disaster!!!!see the things as they are

  • "Instead of just saying the project threatens the ecology, it would be more enlightening if they try to show how it would do so. Probably this documentary could have done a great service to Ethiopia, if they were to ask questions on how the government plans to compensate the people who depend on the river rather than implying just don't irrigate don't build dam."

  • The BBC is angst any development in Ethiopia. Dont forget they are British, a country that robbed African resources for years.

  • Poor choice of words, "even when you walk you kill many insects" That could be used against the government's effort.

  • Under the detrimental developmental challenges and dire conditions Ethiopia is faced, the governments decision to construct this dam is right. Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in the world, and erecting the dam generates safer energy to speed development, saves the ecosystem by sparing the trees from being cut for energy and increase modernity. Ethiopians care about their people more than Europeans. Hands off Ethiopia.

  • Its a must to have the dam...we need power.....where is nature in the west?...they have used thier natural resources in order to be developed....no one agrees.....Good Job Meles...yes there is no rat to smell.....All of us should be together in such issues which are about national walfare.....but the tribes have been there for years....but they didint benefit that much from the river..........ignore these evil comments of 'environmentalists'...!!!

  • And why not build this dam on the Nile instead???

  • @CuteHabeshaGirl

Oh because Menelik II signed an agreement (forced or at will, I don't know) with the british (egypt's colonial master) implying that no dam can be constructed on Blue Nile.

  • It is must to have the dam....we need to be developed....fuck the environmentalist wests....they are trying to save biodiversity in places where people are dying of lack of food....no light....hw long are they going to send us food aid.....of course they dont want to see us developed and be like china or india...we all should know that.....Good Job Meles....go on!!!

  • This is TPLF trying to save its skin by building unstudied, unsupported, undiscussed, and plain unknown project. Why didn't they build this on the Nile????? Ask yourself that. Tell me the answer. Why is woyane spending this much money on this dam when it should be on the nile river?

  • I think what Meles said exactly explains the issue 'They are trying to smell a rat that doesn't exist.'

The reporter went too far when he asserted that the dam has the potential to arouse a civil-war. That is a very unjustified assertion deliberately made to darken the prospects of funding for the project.

The only thing that should be said is that the gov. should consult the people in its decisions. But if they worship the river as God, it doesn't mean that there should be no dam.

  • But if the poor tribes worship the river as God, it doesn't mean that there should be no dam. It should just be explained to them in a way they understand and, if possible, compensated to any losses.

  • I think what Meles said exactly explains the issue 'They are trying to smell a rat that doesn't exist.' The reporter went too far when he asserted that the dam has the potential to arouse a civil-war. That is a very unfair and unjustified assertion deliberately made to darken the prospects of funding for the project.

The only thing that should be said is that the gov. should consult the people in its decisions.

  • And when was the last time Meles said anything credible?

  • What a freakin idiot this report is? What the hell? I love how the Ethiopian gov't guy told him "i don't care what you say." who the hell does he think he is... trying to start trouble between our people..

I guess this is what the Europeans have been doing in Africa creating wars and conflicts between our people.. .

Get the hell out of Africa and leave us alone..

  • You stupid reporter, thank you so much for your attention. You keep talking and we keep building. Who is that Dr Macro Oxford professor? He wants all the Omo ppl to die... Stupid collections of British... Long live to Omos and other Ethiopians.

  • The motive of the Reporter is not clear. He has no moral value to care and discuss about the future of the Omo People better than the Ethioian Govt. He is trying to divide one people in to many.

Why don't they leave us alone, they won't protect us in our struggle to democracy but put pressure on us when we try to grow.

  • Why do Ethiopians not understand they can not continue to persecute people! Based on the comments, Amhara should recommend Tigray leave the land for development? It is twisted to suggest Omo do the same! It is typical Ethiopian leadership.

Dr Gebre (Ethiopian Environmental Agency) compares the impact to Omo people with that of human's stepping on insects. Is this not how the Hutu extremists initiated massacre of Tutsi (Rwandan Genocide)? Ethiopia will dismantle as it continues on this course.

  • I think the motive of the Reporter is special. He has not made the program to protect the omo people and the other tribes, he better explain his motives !!!

  • I think we, people living out side Ethiopia, should start funding for this great dam!

  • I think it is time for ethnic groups around omo such as the Mersi to change their life style meaning, stop depending on natural resources all the time. The same to the rest of rural areas in Ethiopia. Join and let this naturally blessed country shine. By the way I hate EPRDF. However I will not oppose any development project they are proceeding. Let Ethiopia develop in piece along with its neighbors.

  • It is inevitable that some suffers more than others from the negative impacts and unfortunately the Omo tribes are the victims in this case. But what is the trade off? It is possible to minimise the negative impacts by offering employment opportunities for instance for those who depend on the waters for their survival.

  • Ethiopia is damned if it does & damned if it doesn't act in this instance.

Addis & many towns are already suffering regular power cuts so proactive decisions were needed.

I am always sceptical about the BBC's agenda - dam water is usually released on its natural way once it has passed through the turbines ....

  • Change is coming !

  • This is utterly meaningless...They call us the dark continent, but oppose when we create light from our own water? For God's sake......Blinded by ignorance!

  • White Peoples history in Africa has been simply horrific, it's ironic that they'd think they're in the moral position to give anyone advice on how to govern their nation when they themselves committed a crime against all of humanity to build their respective nations.

  • Why not solar energy?

  • @TetuaMaana

You can't rely on solar power for energy consumption since it only works during daylight and also implementing solar energy is very expensive.

  • the Ethiopian govt. needs to start investing in atomic energy, don't kill people to help people cmon now

  • @2gunzG

Ethiopian govt. doesn't have the money to finance a dam project let alone atomic energy

  • 90% of the world envioment is polluted by the western, china.africa only contribute 10% pollution.

based on this fact i do not know why western media are crying and are not able to tolerate this minor impact.

  • I agree! see we are coming from the bottom and they are trying to hold us down and we can't do it. "we can do it"

  • I think the omo tribes are armed by british(BBC).

WTF white folks never sleep if africa starts to grow.

  • Who is arming Ethiopia?

  • white supremacy at work, put Abyssinia further in debt, kill the original Ethio (burnt) pian (face) people, and look like a savior to the rest of the planet by bringing technology
