She died because racing is a cold, inhumane sport. It has nothing to do with the horse's gender, or the horse. The fault was not with her. They ran this still-growing adolescent to death. They killed her.
In show jumping, dressage, polo, cross country, reining, barrel racing, endurance, mares and stallions and geldings go head to head ALL THE TIME and no one says a word. Isn't that weird?
larry jones and gabriel saez's body language gave them away. Saez walked away from the frightened and injured Eight Belles ( compare that to Prado with stayed with Barbaro to try his best to help and comfort him.
Eight Belles collapsed shortly past the line right on the track. Plenty of people witnessed what happened, but Jones did not even reach her in time before she was put down??? Oh, because he was busy celebrating his ego and money.
@ViVi80 You are a blooming idiot. Saez could do nothing for her, and only would have been in the way of the people who were coming quickly who COULD help her (the outrider was already there, equine ambulance en route.) Prado was helping Barbaro stay on his three good legs, as did Antley with Charismatic in '99 but a human cannot support 50% of a horses weight as Saez would have had to do if he had crouched beneath her chest to keep her off of her far more extensive injuries.
LOL. You are a prized moron. Who says it's all about whether they are doing something for the horse like supporting 75% or 50% of their weight. Frankly speaking no one would even think about or bring up the point about what, Saez crouching beneath to support her weight. Trust a dimwit like you to even have that thought cross your mind. I"M TALKING ABOUT THE SAEZ'S ATTITUDE, GET IT?????
@ViVi80 I was being facetious, GET IT???? As for the attitudes of the two men, Saez was obviously shocked and heartbroken, and Larry RAN across the track to her until he caught a ride with track crew. He could not reach her in time before she was put down because track vets put her down as quickly as possible. "Shortly past the line", wasn't like a few dozen feet or so after the the wire:, she was nearly to the backstretch again on her gallop-out before she fell. Not a 30 second jaunt.
Respond to this video... Let's put it this way, if it were Barbaro who ended up with Eight Belle's fate (2 broken ankles), Prado would never walk away from Barbaro just like that, impatient to get his saddle back like Saez was, even if he OBVIOUSLY can't support Barbaro's weight. It's all about the attitude. DUH.
Fuck those people horses are born ot gallop especially Thoughroubreds if they werent what use are they fuck them anyway..put them as schooling horses youd never control them.....idiots i live on a stable we only have one throughbred and hes retired so we never use him and even though he retired we can barely contain his exccitement easily.
id ont thinkr acing is bad sometiems yes i have an abused x race horse who wont let another hrose walk in frontof her she was bron to run and lvoes it and wheni ride her downt he stretchi lean up farther and sya chelsey and uknow what she lets out a burts of speed id ont chick or anything i jsut ask her verbally and she gives she watns!!
These horses want to run they love it a horse is not happy when it doesn't have a job when its out in a field eight belles didn't die because she gave up or because something was wrong with the footing or the jockies riding eight belles died loving what she was doing and gave everything to almost win her last race if that horse didn't like to race don't you think she would have stopped when she didn't feel right?RACE ON EIGHT BELLES!Don't blame anyone for her decision!
They got mad because he raced her against colts? Oh my God. Now we're going to be sexist towards horses! Those horses love running. It's like the Huskies in the Iditterod(sp?), they love running. Period. So PETA, suck it, and go find some lab rats to set free and I hope you get killed in the process.
@showjumper659 No doubt, and In show jumping, dressage, polo, cross country, reining, barrel racing, endurance, mares and stallions and geldings go head to head ALL THE TIME and no one says a word. Isn't that weird?
while PETA is way out of line, there does need to be changes in the racing and breeding industry.... William Nack writes of the serious issues at hand on ESPN (May 16) entitled
Eight Belle's Breakdown: A Predictable Tragedy.
Horses need to be bred for soundness and stamina and not just precocious speed....
Yes, but it was Willaim Nack who said in 'Ruffian A Racetrack Romace' that over the years, horses Throughbred have been losing more and more bone strength. The blood of the first racers ever thins out more and more with each foal. The first racers had great bone strength, but as thier blood grows thinner within each racehorse, so deos the gene of great bone strength.
These people have suffered enough without PETA trying to beat them up. They have no class. They should take lessons from the Porters, the Jones, and Gabe.
