  • well i hope you dont even need blood given to you! and can rely on antibiotics.

    good justification though...

  • My blood's going to be useless, I am AB+.

  • i want that cookie

  • Hey they're playing this again! :) I've been getting lots of "I saw you on TV!"s. Can you add some tags to the video like 'blood services commerical' or something? It's hard to find in a search :) Thanks again for posting it!!

I hope lots of people donate now that it's playing again.

  • When Canadian Blood Services is serious about saving lives, give me a call.

Let gay/bi men donate blood, and test it properly to see if it's safe (odds are it is).

  • @BoredomCorner

Unfortunately, it is not up to CBS to decide if they should or shouldn't accept Gay/Bisexual Men. Canadian Blood Services reports to Health Canada and they have the decision over whether to accept Gay/Bi Men. If you wonder why they haven't accepted their blood, look at who's in power. The federal Harper Conservatives wanted to vote a second-time on whether or not same-sex unions should be legal, this AFTER it was voted by a majority in the house of commons that it should be legal.

  • Let me get this straight: there's supposedly a blood shortage, yet CBS won't accept donations from gay/bi men, due to there being a small chance they have HIV (though they make is sound a lot more common for some reason). They don't discriminate against anyone else, despite young women being far more likely to have communicable blood diseases, and on top of that the vast majority of gay men are totally healthy.

It's a political thing. Check out my other comment/reply.

  • i give blood sometimes and its akward

  • You're welcome Chelsey, If you'd like to PM your email, I can send you the .avi format, or another format. Glad to see you're still doing well. :D

  • Aww thanks Chelsey. Pretty sure you rock too! :)

  • Thanks for posting this commercial. I wanted to watch it but they've taken it off the website. I'm Chelsey, the third person in the commercial. Thanks everyone that donates blood :) You do save lives!

  • I don't give blood and never will. 4 hours after its taken out of a human body 70% of it is dead tissue. It becomes nothing more than a filler and patients are given atibiotics to help fight infections.

Yet, there are produced fillers that help blood volume that is clean and sterile that actually help make red blood cells and patients that are given it generally recover faster.

  • Do you have a source or proof of this? In other words, where did you hear or read this?

  • Sir, your BS is ill conceived and poorly researched. Blood donations are imperative to some people's survival. The system in place for collection and distribution of blood is very impressive, but only works if people donate. Spreading false 'facts' is counter productive to the process. Going on a limb here.... you voted for Bush, right?

  • I love to watch this video. I'm actually friends with Chelsey and she's part of the reason that I have started to donate. Doing it on Wednesday! :). So excited. I'm scared of needles too, but it's worth it in the end! :)

  • Wow, That's awesome, If you talk to her, please send her my good wishes from a fellow blood donor.

  • Hey this is Chelsey haha I happened to want to watch the commercial again and was reading this!

Thanks for being a donor :)

  • Hey Kim :)

You rock for donating :) Just wanted to remind you haha

  • Sad story. However, they more than likely didn't need to give this child blood anyways. Throughout the world blood is hardly used, but in Canada its big buisness and used as much as possible.

  • Actually they did give blood to the child and that's how he survived, it mentions it in the video. I'm not sure why other countries would not "use" their blood supply, but your answer doesn't make sense. Canada does in fact require more blood then is given, only about 3% of the Adult population (Under 18s are not counted for Privacy) gives blood regularly. The supply is lower then the demand. So please everyone, donate as often as you can.

  • All of the people in the commercial are real and DID receive blood. I know because I'm Chelsey from the commercial and had received countless donations of blood.

  • I love to give blood. It's a great feeling

  • i never realised that giving blood could make that big a difference.

being scared of needles, i wasn't really keen on it, but now i wonder if i can find out if it's possible around here.

  • You can have more then one, they also serve fruits, ice cream, juice, coffee, etc I'm sure they have Blood Donation Organizations in U.K. right?

  • Cool a cookie! If I lived in Canada I'd be all for it.
