OMG. Everytime that poor S.O.B's hat goes flying, I need to run out and get a DEPENDS. Yeah, it was racist, but come on people...It was the times, we know better and it still doesn't stop this from being some of the funniest stuff in creation. WHAT 5 ASSHOLES COULD DISLIKE THIS ??? .... Kids of ALL racial backgrounds playing together in a band - in the 1930s ???!!! ....... GROUNDBREAKIN' TV ....... Line those 5 up and get tha firing squad !!
although this time era was hard on america, i think it produced some of the greatest shows, again leave it to kids to not have any color or racial barriers, spanky mcfarland once said, we were kids having a great time we never ever saw or let any color issues ever on the sets rip spanky and those we've lost
showed this to my little cousin.... to my knowledge has never seen anything in black and white. Was confused at first but quickly related to simply seeing children being funny and began to laugh. These shorts are simultaneously, hopelessly date but yet timeless and forever funny!!!
@brytoob - LOL, it wouldn't be an Our Gang talkback without anti-PC off topic comments like that. But the fanbase only skews so reactionary because the sad fact is that most people in my experience WON'T watch this series, in part due to the racial aspect. They get grossed out by some watermelon joke, or to be fair one of the few really offensive moments, and disregard the whole series, groundbreaking progressiveness be damned.
@ Penndemic - Your wrong about why Mr. Cosby bought the rights and stop the showing of The Little Rascals. His intention was to stop the stereotyping of Blacks that was common back then, this was also done to American Indians too. The end result is the truth about people is now allowed to come to the forefront. think about it no "Jim Crow" or "Wooden Indians" means a better self image for those this Iconography represented. I really don't want to filter my view of someone thru Prejudice

From what I've heard, these kids helped the US during the Depression- inspired us with their camaraderie, comforted us, and gave us perspective, that they were the future and that there was no excuse to not pull together and get us through those times, for their sake. Corny, but should inspire us even today.
I never laughed so friggin hard in my whole life.....Scotty BLOWS the SOUND MAN's HAT, right off his damm head ! THEN he flings a HUGE WADD OF GUM on Stymie's bass drum pedal...that pour sound man, by the end of the song his hair was straight up in the air...like Don King. LMAO....rolling on the floor.....
...what a song...they should play that on national radio !!!!! Blows away some of the craP.... music today...lmao.....WHEN THAT GUYS HAT BLOWS OFF HIS HEAD...so fuckin funny...they stymie throws the bubble gum on the bass pedal of the drums...lmao...hahhahahahhahahhahahhaha...im dying...lol....hahahhahahahha
The edited versions shown to us in the 70's I will always remember fondly. The original uncut versions would definitely cause problems if shown today. It was what the times dictated. I for one was glad to hear that for most part No division among the children was made. Well Alfafa was a lil terror it was said.
That dude in the recording booth made me LMFAO !! XD
He had the classic, "What the F-CK ?!!!" look on his face. Finished with "Sonofabitch...f-ck this sh-t !!" Seriously this brought back good memories from my childhood.
@ZZCFI75 ...yo dude, you got me laughing so fuckin hard....there are tears fallin down my face...lmao...hahhahahahhahahhahhahahha....the fuckin SOUND MAN...i watched ALL these episodes on a regular basis in the early 1960's...and I mean early !...lol...I now have all of them...UNCUT on VHS tapes....and a few on DVD. The Sound guy in the booth is beautiful, how funny is that shit? his hair blows through his hat...finally he just busts up the booth - the best part is all the kids in the booth with him. Also not shown is where the 1 kid sez to Spanky "When Im done Im gonna win this contest" and Spanky sez "When your done theyre gonna throw you out..." Classic
this was the original funk band right here!!! stymie keeps hitting that chinese cymbal and the dudes hat keeps flying off....this one always keeps me laughing!!!
oh, the poor guy in the sound booth! i used to watch their shorts all the time when i was little. and then i could never undertsand why all the other kids hated black & white movies so much. i still can't. the classics are that for a reason.
Any Idea how to get still photos of this episode?, I love the look on the guys face in the sound booth, any help would be greatly appreciated , Triack42@yahoo
Wow, that brought back memories. I was in love with the one girl. I am 31 now, the rascals were before my time BUT I still loved it. It was always on TV and I just loved it. What great memories.
I had always thought that the guy in the sound mixing booth was Marvin T. Hatley who was one of the two major music writers for the Hal Raoch Studios, the other being Leroy Shields.
This was the first rendition of "Man on the Flying Trapeeze" I ever heard and the only one that stays in my mind (ear worm). I feel sorry for the guy in the control booth although he makes me laugh. My other favorite scene is when the kid was playing his trumpet and Scotty & Spanky were eating the lemons!!!
i love the litttle rascals and i love mikey way for posting this link on twitter, put a smile on my face =) ahh .....i can definately see mcr sounding like this XD xxx <3
Elmer Raguse was the sound engineer for Hal Roach. It's no joke when those tubes blow from too loud of a noise! It was quite a hassle learning how everything worked since no one had experience with using sound! They had to be careful not to blow those tubes, for real!
@drumbot23 I KNOW THIS ONE ALMOST MADE ME CRY, I LOVE THESE KID, I WOULD BECOME OLD MOTHER HUBBARD FOR THEM ,THEY COULD LIVE WITH ME , AT THAT AGE THOUGHT LOL
It makes me quite proud and happy to see all the wonderful comments here, specifically those that mention "that poor sound engineer" with the "wild hair" who goes berserk with a hammer at the end with much comic effect, because the actor who played him was my uncle, Sid Walker
(my dad, Allan Walker, appeared in all 46 episodes, 1st and 2nd season, of "The Red Buttons Show")
Dude-kids are watching this and experiencing the classic Little Rascals for the first time since they were deleted by cultural fascist. Lets not spoil the rebirth of such talent and history with profanity.
OMG I am so grateful that someone has gotten this on you tube, The best of the best lil rascal. Thank God Cosby hasnt stolen this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can we PLEASE put this crazy urban legend to rest? Cosby does not, nor has he ever, owned any rights to any Hal Roach comedy. Genius Entertainment just issued a set of all the Roach talkies on several DVD's.
Love that NRA logo at the end credits. I remember getting up early sat mornings to watch this. One of my favorite episodes. Man TV had a purpose back then. not all this reality D class celebrity crap of today.
yeah i WIKI'd it and it didn't interest me to the point of remembering. You are right though some sort of Hollywood mambo jumbo government involved power trip thingy.
This is the short called Mike Fright. In my opinion the very best one.
It has more wit, timing and great one liners than any Little Rascals/Our Gang. There's also a fair amount of social comment about stage mothers, arrogant brats and how the underdog prevails.
wow this put the biggest smile on my face, i watched this like over and over again, omg they are the cutest little rascals i've even seen!! i just wanna smushhhhhhhh them all!!!!!!
This is the best version of this song I have ever heard. I found the Little Rascals video of this and play it often. The guy in the control booth with the hair is tooooo much.
This is one of the best. Were the Indternational silver string band, and the resepionist says are you shure? Then Dicky states mabe we aint us. Spaks replay what do you meran we aint us ummmmmm? These kids will never be forgoten. Tanks Jess
That was a spoof of Laurel & Hardy. They sometimes visited the set and gave the kids pointers. They had a cameo in one episode. It's where Spanky and his parents went to get their picture taken and Spanky was afraid that he would be shot by the camera.
This was one of the funniest episodes of the "Our Gang" series. I can never forget the guy in the sound room and the funny hair and his hat blowing off all the time. I was laughing on the floor by the time the show had ended. I still laught my ass off today when I see it.
This is the scene where Paul McCartney not only got the idea for Srgnt Pepper but also Yellow Submarine. He liked the long name and the submarine reference. His brother Mike even said he use to rib Paul by calling him Spanky...He does look like Paul doesn`t he?
brought me way back to sat mornings curled up in a blanket with my lil bros!! LOL THANK YOU!

Elmer Raguse was the sound engineer for Hal Roach. It's no joke when those tubes blow from too loud of a noise! It was quite a hassle learning how everything worked since no one had experience with using sound! They had to be careful not to blow those tubes, for real!

They were actually called
"The International Silver SCREEN Submarine Band"
This is still one of my favorite episodes.

Thank God Cosby hasnt stolen this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cgarmatt 3 years ago
Can we PLEASE put this crazy urban legend to rest? Cosby does not, nor has he ever, owned any rights to any Hal Roach comedy. Genius Entertainment just issued a set of all the Roach talkies on several DVD's.

I LOVE IT when the guy takes the hammer and destroys the sound equipment!!! Was that Pete Townshend's dad ???

Love that NRA logo at the end credits. I remember getting up early sat mornings to watch this. One of my favorite episodes. Man TV had a purpose back then. not all this reality D class celebrity crap of today.
fuckengerginof 3 years ago 2
In this case "NRA" meant "National Recovery Administration". And I agree with you on how the quality of TV has deteriorated.
MrUnidyne 3 years ago
well there we go i learned something new. :)
fuckengerginof 3 years ago
I used to get confused myself. It's not the gun group, but one of FDR's "alphabet soup" programs to get the USA out of the Depression.
MrUnidyne 3 years ago
yeah i WIKI'd it and it didn't interest me to the point of remembering. You are right though some sort of Hollywood mambo jumbo government involved power trip thingy.

Another 1 of my favorites LOL :D

Mike Fright is great however in fairness The Lucky Corner a very good one.
Carminesbobby 3 years ago
This is the short called Mike Fright. In my opinion the very best one.
It has more wit, timing and great one liners than any Little Rascals/Our Gang. There's also a fair amount of social comment about stage mothers, arrogant brats and how the underdog prevails.
It's a great story.

This one was hysterical...especially when the guy in the booth loses his hat and his hair stands up! I am laughing soo much I can hardly type this!

Tanks Jess

(After introducing themselves as the International Silver String Submarine Band):
Receptionist: "Are you sure?"
(Band stares at her in silent confusion)
Dickie: "Maybe we're not us!"
Spanky (in disgust): "'Maybe we're not us...' HUMPH!"
MrUnidyne 3 years ago 3
MrUnidyne, Dickie wasn't in this. His name was Scotty Beckett. :) :)
Misskayseeluvsu 3 years ago
I stand corrected. It was Scotty, not Dickie.
MrUnidyne 3 years ago
That was a spoof of Laurel & Hardy. They sometimes visited the set and gave the kids pointers. They had a cameo in one episode. It's where Spanky and his parents went to get their picture taken and Spanky was afraid that he would be shot by the camera.

I wish someone would send in the episode when the gang was at Granny's house and she was rollerskating around her house!
terry4green 3 years ago 2
This was one of the funniest episodes of the "Our Gang" series. I can never forget the guy in the sound room and the funny hair and his hat blowing off all the time. I was laughing on the floor by the time the show had ended. I still laught my ass off today when I see it.

One of my favorite shorts. Thanks
Because of this episode, whenever I see someone with a lemon, I always have to say, "You like lemons?"

Still more popular than Depeche Mode! (and better musicians!)

This is the scene where Paul McCartney not only got the idea for Srgnt Pepper but also Yellow Submarine. He liked the long name and the submarine reference. His brother Mike even said he use to rib Paul by calling him Spanky...He does look like Paul doesn`t he?
