The tune is from Carter Family song "I'm Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes" (also used for Roy Acuff's "Great Spekled Bird") the lyrics are by William Warren, credit is also given to Arlie Carter piano player for Jimmy Heap and the Melody Masters who recorded it before Thompson. J.D. Miller wrote the lyrics for the even more famous response song by Kitty Wells.
