The tune is from Carter Family song "I'm Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes" (also used for Roy Acuff's "Great Spekled Bird") the lyrics are by William Warren, credit is also given to Arlie Carter piano player for Jimmy Heap and the Melody Masters who recorded it before Thompson. J.D. Miller wrote the lyrics for the even more famous response song by Kitty Wells.

Nice version of what is possibly the quintessential country song. For the record the orginal version of this song was recorded by Jimmy Heap and the Melody Masters in 1950, while Hank Thompson had the big hit with it two years later. If you gethold of the orginal version it also has some addtional lyrics whic are misse dout of the later version.
