I'm just really starting to get more into these guys but just have Milo Goes to College, I like this stuff, I know that these guys are heralded as "Starting melodic hardcore/pop punk" in some circles or whatever, and i really dig this song because it demonstrates that. Pop punk doesn't mean new found glory, pop punk means it's hook-y and has appeal which is just a characteristic of GREAT songwriting.
@kingster911 the vandals should also get some credit for starting some of those kinds of bands. most people only think of the descendents and I believe that most bands from the pop punk genre in the mid 90s drew tons of influence from both bands, especially since vandals were a mid 80s band :p

I was just pointing out that a lot of mid 90s pop punk bands drew their influences from both bands, and i think people tend to make it just about the descendents. I love both bands, and will always say the descendents are favored by me out of the two, but i give both bands the credit for music some of us love today.

The next time, they were supposed to play @ the Grotto, but the local dickweed Fire Marshal put the kabosh on that, and a select few of us got to see them rip a set of classic Descendents songs in the living room of a house, much like in the video, actually. "I DON"T WANT TO GROW UP" is the album I first heard. This album is punk. This is another example of a band where the original important contributing members are no longer with the band for what ever reason and some asshole (usually the no talent hack-bass player) keeps the bands name. They continue to tour just to make a buck. These guys are posers and if you guys think this punk just because of the bands name you are sorely mistaken. i agree with your argument, but i dont think the descendents are one of them. firstly, bill basically IS the descendents: he started it, he's basically in charge, and the only guy who's always been in the band. secondly, milo defines the descendents with his nerd image and lyrics. to me, i think the change of sound is purely milo and bill changing, as opposed to them losing important people, as the only person thats really come close to being as important is frank.
I was actually suprised when I read that Milo went to college and had nothing to do with the "I don;t want to grow up" album. It was Ray Cooper who sang on that album. I agree with what you said as well, I still dig Bill's playing and Milo's style. It's Milo's singing that ruins this for me. I must admit I have some more older stuff to listen to but I think I will continue to be dissappointed with milo. The album I refer to had the Decendents anthem on it, doesn't anybody know? U must check it!
Yeah I agree wit fftl36cfafi, plus the guitarist and bassist, Steve and Karl, have been with the Descedents since 1987. Since this video was made in 1996, they'd been in the band for almost ten years at this point. Milo and Bill, clearly, are the core and still can rock harder than any band out there.

This guitarrist is Stephen Egerton, not Frank Navetta, the dead guy. Respect and thank you Frank for having existed and founded one of the best bands of all time. I watched Blink182 in Madrid in 97 with Lagwagon and Pulley. They sounded like shit and it was the best thing I ever heared from them. They were completely unknown and I think that should have been one of their first and last shows.

i can ride a halfpipe on a longboard u dick.there are many longboards out on the market design for pools and halfpipes.hybrid 35,ceviche are two examples.also that trick u name MOST skaters cant even do that thing.all the so called skaters at my school cant even varial kickflip.and flips are not impossible on a longboard.theres a video on here of a kid skating on a halfpipe doing flip tricks WITH a longboard.look it up until then u dont know shit bout skating and longboarding.

"I DON"T WANT TO GROW UP" is the album I first heard. This album is punk. This is another example of a band where the original important contributing members are no longer with the band for what ever reason and some asshole (usually the no talent hack-bass player) keeps the bands name. They continue to tour just to make a buck. These guys are posers and if you guys think this punk just because of the bands name you are sorely mistaken. They should change there name to BLINK 182 part 2! Posers!

i agree with your argument, but i dont think the descendents are one of them. firstly, bill basically IS the descendents: he started it, he's basically in charge, and the only guy who's always been in the band. secondly, milo defines the descendents with his nerd image and lyrics. to me, i think the change of sound is purely milo and bill changing, as opposed to them losing important people, as the only person thats really come close to being as important is frank.

I was actually suprised when I read that Milo went to college and had nothing to do with the "I don;t want to grow up" album. It was Ray Cooper who sang on that album. I agree with what you said as well, I still dig Bill's playing and Milo's style. It's Milo's singing that ruins this for me. I must admit I have some more older stuff to listen to but I think I will continue to be dissappointed with milo. The album I refer to had the Decendents anthem on it, doesn't anybody know? U must check it!

Yeah I agree wit fftl36cfafi, plus the guitarist and bassist, Steve and Karl, have been with the Descedents since 1987. Since this video was made in 1996, they'd been in the band for almost ten years at this point. Milo and Bill, clearly, are the core and still can rock harder than any band out there.

This guitarrist is Stephen Egerton, not Frank Navetta, the dead guy. Respect and thank you Frank for having existed and founded one of the best bands of all time. I watched Blink182 in Madrid in 97 with Lagwagon and Pulley. They sounded like shit and it was the best thing I ever heared from them. They were completely unknown and I think that should have been one of their first and last shows.
