@LisaLetters I played 8 years of piano when I was younger. I think you should play both if you have time (and money). I just stop piano one day because I was not motivated enough, I kinda regret it today because it's a great instrument, and I've lost all what I learnt (learned ?). And I took the bass because one friend needed a bass player for his band ;)

really good, i'm seriously impressed, but would is tuned down to Eb, like all alice in chains songs are. Alice in Chains have two main tunings: Eb (half step down, all strings) or drop C# tuning ( Eb tuning, but the 4th is tuned to C#) . but other than that i see no other mistakes, good luck!

Hmm, since the last section is very hard to hear on this song for bass I was hoping to see someone play it. I am disappointed to see that not only do skimp on this section, but you are missing correct notes on every part of the song. Oh well, I guess, still sounds good with the song.

There is also an E-flat F G-flat run during the part of the chorus where you are strictly playing G-flats. I really don't have any idea how part of the last section of the song goes beyond the chord progression.

@remiiiiiii You know, I've seen this thing tabbed for like 15 years with what "denny rules" is saying (regarding how to play the verse). However; after playing it both ways for approx. 15 years the way you are playing it in the video SOUNDS the most correct. Something doesn't sound right when you play the 2nd fret right before the third fret. Sounds better with just the 3rd fret. Good job.

the verse is correct. sometimes Mike will throw in an extra G flat at the end. it almost sounds out of time when he does it but its in a swing feel with a push to the G flat. but the chorus is Aflat with a hammer to the C then the rest is spot on timing. good cover! if you want i can post the riff to my page and you can check it out. let me know!

There's no rule that says you have to play a song exactly, note for note, the way the original was. In fact, I would think very little of anybody I auditioned, that came in and played something EXACTLY the same way the original guy did. That just proves you can copy a song. It proves nothing about a person's actual creative ability... except that maybe the person doesn't have any.

@xray606 I believe there are two ways you can cover a song. One, you are trying to play covers at bars, in which I fully believe you should try to play the songs the way they were written. That's what made them popular. Two, you are part of an original act, in which you should put your own creative take on it. I'm really sure you would love to take someone who "creatively" omits parts. I don't think you should audition someone for an original act on an established song anyway.

I don't know what it is about Stingrays, but they handle pick playing so well. The attack is all there, but no loss of low-end tone like there is with other basses.

but I saw this awesome quilt top Alvarez aeb 4000 (i think)bass hanging on the wall, $119 used. I had to plug it in, sounded great, brought it home. Its not my Eb bass.
