Sadly Titanic survived longer on the bottom then it would have had it never sunk. Olympic was scraped and Titanic is still somewhat together. If it wasn't for the loss of life Titanic would never have been looked for.

There is something terrifying (for me anyway) about seeing a monstrous structure like The Titanic lying on the ocean floor. Gives me the chills, really. Especially when the photo is of the entire ship, photographed from a distance.

Actually, there were four ships planned. They were the Olympic, Titanic, Gigantic and Britanic, Because of the sinking of the Titanic, a lot of alterations was made to the Olympic as well as the Gigantic, that was being build as the third ship. When WWI broke out, the Gigantic was ready to be fitted out, and she was instead converted into a hospital ship. For patriotic reasons the name was changed to Britanic, and the Gigantic was instead to be the name of the last ship in the series. The Brita

@Creanda hmmm. Your info is wrong. There were only 3 planned ships. The britannic was named after the first white star liner to have that name. She Gigantic and Britannic are the same ship, just a name change is all that happened. As a matter of fact, the name change happened before the ships construction was started. If there was going to be a fourth olympic class liner, there would be records to show it, and im sure they'd have built it.

@ThomasAndrewsGal1912 Third sister ship was the RMS Olympic. It was the closest ship to the titanic but over 4 1/2 hours away, and Titanic went under in less than 2 hours, and the water being 34 degrees everyone froze before she got there to help. And back in those days the ships going at full speed only made probably 24 knots? (Not to sure just my assumption)

@ThomasAndrewsGal1912 Yes they did however it was transfered into a hospital ship because World War 1 started, and it was Titanics sister ship the "Britanic" it only saild ONE time and was sunk on her first journy just like the Titanic. Some say it hit a mine, but in the movie shows a "spy" onboard blowing it up to sink it because it was supossibly smuggling weapons for the soldiers.I heard there was another titanic sister ship and it sank also, not to sure on the 3rd tho.

all these artifacts should be brought up and preserved before the ship collapses and destroys everything,it would be a much better memorial if these things could be seen in person rather than the fate that awaits them in the near future with the rate of corrosion on the ship,what kind of memorial would a pile of rusted and twisted steel be to all those who perished, all artifacts possible to save should be saved for future generations to remember what happened,minus all the shoes,they are graves
