Kessler and Lacy were really excellent performances, but the rest? Please...Ol' man Jones and Hopkins, Eubank was never the same after Michael Watson, so he beat a shell of what Eubank was post-Watson. Typical UK fighter. Made a huge name out of fighting B+ opponents for a long time, and then got a couple of cheap names on his resume.
He went about 10 years, not even fighting the best at a rubbish 168 division. He was facing guys ranked 15 in the division. Had no interest in moving up to the very hot 175, when Roy was mashing it up.
Then he gets to 35, realises he hasn't beaten anyone, so chooses the easiest possible US opponents.

Joe Calzaghe was a great champion, he takes a lot of critiscism but if you ever had to pick a fighter you could rely on to grind out a scorecard victory over a taxi driver, you'd have to pick Joe Calzaghe. is not about how good your record look like, is about if you thought the best and lost to the best then that what you call a legend.
for example, if a guy had 100-0 record but thought shit fighters, but another record like 50-6 for example that thought the best and lost to the best, then i consider having 50-6 record becuase people will remember me of fighting the best people.

the problem was that he wanted to fight our champions in wales and roy made the comment he didnt have to fight joe back then because joe was a nobody. Jones was the money, and why fight a nobody like calzaghe in wales and make pennies compared to the millions he makes in the US. The fact is that in the UK he gets protected he gets away with a lot of pre-mature stoppages and will get the judges decision in a close fight. In the US it proved we are not bias, calzaghe a big fraud.

So what kept this undefeated world champion down for so long? Everyone has to work their way up to big money and theres no better way of doing that than being the champ. From what you hear on both sides Roy never fancied the fight and backed out 6 years ago when a deal had been struck. Bhop fought bums for 10 years, all the others were either too small or faded away.
In my honest and unbiased opinion it looks lot like US fighters ducked Joe until he became the money.

he was not ducked are you crazy, jones and hopkins fought him for a nice pay-day come on they are on their way out and who wouldnt want that, jones and hopkins had nothing to lose as you can see, but just because he beat a shell of once great fighters doesnt make joe a legend. and as far as being undefeated thats why he is labeled as a coward because of the type of competition he faced.

Joe faced whoever he could but no one in America would touch him. Why? He was a huge draw in the UK, 20x as big as Carl Froch who just got a fight with Jermain Taylor with half the experience and belts. You saw him at 37 but imagine what he was like a decade ago- faster, stronger, hungrier. No one fancied that fight, no one fancied getting hit a thousand times. Then through Lacy and Kessler they just couldnt duck him anymore.

To me the only fight i gave him credit for was with kessler, i think kessler gave him too much respect, but kessler came on in the end but it was too late. Lacy as you can see was over-hyped, he "was" called baby tyson until he stepped up and fought the better boxers. Who knows the same thing might just happen to calzaghe if he stepped up to

Kessler and Lacy were really excellent performances, but the rest? Please...Ol' man Jones and Hopkins, Eubank was never the same after Michael Watson, so he beat a shell of what Eubank was post-Watson. And the majority of Joes other opponents were very average. he once fought a guy called Tocker Pudwill for Christ sake. Try saying that name out loud and you genuinely cant help but laugh!

I like Calzaghe but lets face it 46-0 doesnt mean a thing. Being undefeaten usually means they have been fighting the wrong people wich in the case of Calzaghe is pretty damn obvious. It's a shame but I guess we will never know how good he really was. Looking at some highlight video's you cant really argue that roy Jones was a lot more impresive in his prime. He didnt just beat the top guys but made it look easy as well.

This is confirmed in a statement by the then showtime exec (who sat in the negotiations) in Calzaghe's autobiography. He beat 6 World Champions before Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins & Jones. Hopkins looked pretty ok when he smashed Pavlik after losing to Calzaghe. Pavlik who was considered as being America's next great thing!

Sorry, never got the Calzaghe thing.
Typical UK fighter. Made a huge name out of fighting B+ opponents for a long time, and then got a couple of cheap names on his resume.
He went about 10 years, not even fighting the best at a rubbish 168 division. He was facing guys ranked 15 in the division. Had no interest in moving up to the very hot 175, when Roy was mashing it up.
Then he gets to 35, realises he hasn't beaten anyone, so chooses the easiest possible US opponents.
