  • At the most fundamental level, all drugs should be legal. Gov enslaves the entire nation on the fear that a few will abuse X, Y or Z. It's insane to punish 300,000,000 for the possible crimes of 30 or 40. The totalitarian approach backfires because people do not want to be told they cannot do X.

  • It's worse than that. The laws that prohibit X,Y, and Z create the exact enviroment and problems that caused them to prohibit X,Y and Z. The fact that drugs are illegal forces their prices up through the black market. The addict then has to resort to property theft to obtain what should be readily available and controlled.

  • Good intentions, dumb solutions.

  • Simple possession of marijuana or any other illegal drug, medical or not, should never carry a sentence of prison time unless it is associated with other, violent crimes. I think that marijuana should be legalized, but if not, then simply slapping them with a fine is a better alternative. Our prisons are overcrowded because they are filled with people who have not hurt anyone.

  • First of all, I agree with federal and state legalization of med marijuana in the USA. However, Mr. Lynch knew quite well that the feds in 07 still considered it illegal. The fact that he broke federal law( no matter how one feels about this law) means he can be prosecuted under that law, irregardless of state laws. He should have waited for the state AND feds to allow the practice of dispensing. He knew what he was doing. Even if he didn't, ignorance of the law is not excused.

  • That makes no sense. The laws are in place to reflect what we as citizens feel are morally and ethically acceptable, not for the government to tell us what to do. If a law is unfair or in this case, stupid, it is not only ok to break that law but it could be considered dutiful. Do you think blacks should have waited for the laws to change. If they had, it never would have happened.

  • I a law needs changing, then we go through the process of changing it. Have a Congressional member table a bill to amend the legislation, then it can go through the process. To thumb a nose at a law by breaking it is dumb and useless. I would suggest if someone wants the law changed by protest, do it in VERY large numbers so that attention is drawn. Was this man doing it out of protest, I don't know. Imagine if all of us used this method to change laws. Not enough prison room.

  • Edit to my last post. Senators bring Bills to the House, not Congressional members. Sorry for that.

  • There is no higher form of protest. Though Lynch did not formally protest, what he did was what he felt was right despite the law. This does more than protest, it shows why we should protest. Furthermore, would you agree that laws are in place to prevent people from victimizing others? Who is the victim in this case. On whose behalf is the fed prosecuting this guy for? I have no greivance and apparantly you don't either. Find me someone who does and see if their arguments hold water.

  • The judge even went so far as to say if he could find a way out of this for Lynch he would use it. This guy could go to prison for a longer term than some 1st degree murderers. Justice?

  • we've allowed the gov to trick us into having too much control. How can we get out of it now? It's like a guy asking for your gun, once you give it, you have no way to get it back.

  • Agreed. It's a little like hiring a contractor to paint your living room. He tears down your walls, does your roof, builds an attactched garage, and landscapes your yard, then has you put in prison for not paying the bill.

  • just greedy. The ones in power do NOT want to give it up. Just that simple.
