@12tof34 - Burnside was one of the original nasty coppers like the Sweeney's Jack Regan, both just about the right side of the law that he enforced, but not afraid to hurt those who got in his way or to get a result. Solid acting by Chris Ellison created one of the best Bill characters.
Well, as a main character he left the show in 1993. He came back five years later as a DCI, then had periodic episodes in 1998 and 1999 before he left the show for good in January 2000.
Excellent stuff. I can't sing Burnside's praises enough. Definitely the golden era of the Bill and hopefully it won't be too long before more Burnside episodes are out on DVD.
Classic era of the Bill - one of Sun Hill's finest characters of all time - DI Frank Burside and original woodentop DC Jim Carver. The Bill used to be one of my favourite shows, consistant and quality. Shame they progressively ruined it by killing off good actors and bringing in tripe storylines.
Classic clip 'cause its a classic character. I think it was about 6 years ago they brought DI Burnside back as a DCI for a couple of episodes. He really impressed the CID lot back then I think they should do the same again as nearly everyone is different in CID now!
burnside and beech were badass legends

I wish they would combine the Beech and Burnside spinoffs and have Burnside go after Beech since the Bill has ended.
