More often than you'd think musicians will take an idea and incorporate into two or more songs, whether on purpose or subconscious. He probably just felt the groove and incorporated it into both songs.
@michaelvkelly1 You are correct, he copied it exactly! He did the same with "Watching the wheels" and "Imagine" as well. I've always been a huge Lennon fan, but he was really lazy with the songwriting towards the end. "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" was a rip of George McCrae's "Rock your Baby" too.
nobody told me/instant karma..is it me or are they pretty much the same songs, bar the lyrics of course!

I personally don't see them as the same song, but I see the similarities your talking about, particularly in the beginning.

They are not the same song, please learn a bit of bass and you will realize that. The earth may look flat, but is not.
