What kimosabe said is wrong, I have a 52 M38 delivered to the Army in Feb. 52. When we sand blasted it down to the bear metal, it was itched into the hood US. Army. Which also showed the original contract number. The only thing I seen wrong with your grate restoration was the hood star. During WW2, they had the one point forward. On the M38 it was two forward. For those that want to restore an M38 to factory, do not make the mistake of painting them flat OD, they where all semi-gloss
Beautiful. Couldnt've done better myself.

The hood should read U.S.A. only. U.S. Army wasn't used until 1957
