If I may, I have played ping pong for 4 years now, and in Table tennis, we rank our players with points, similar to what you are suggesting for the bboying scene. To comment on your proposed ranking system:
1. I feel like getting 1st/2nd/semi-final is not important/relevant for ranking. Jams range from big to small, and the level of competitors fluctuate from country to country. It's just too hard.
2. sports with the elo(point/ranking) system only follow who beats who. it's easy to control.
BBoying survived the ages because there was no organization to it whatsoever, imho, having an organization = power struggle WITHIN the org itself, among many other things, BBoying is a free thing and it should be kept that way, that was how the hip hop culture spread so quickly, why slap rules and barriers and the sort on it? What i see in this is that we will be limited to the OUR system, the system will be in control.
@skyalvinlee2 Actually, I disagree. I think Bboying has not reached the level of all the other dances, cultures, and sports, such as ballroom, Yoga, BMX, Skateboarding, Rapping, Deejay, Graffitti, etc, because there is no organization to PROTECT, and to SERVE the community. Don't you agree that rules, system's and law's are meant to protect the people from exploitation, which unless your living under a rock, you will know that is EXACTLY what has happened in all of Bboy HISTORY
@dyzeesupernaturalzzz You are right too, you do have points, maybe i haven't really had enough exposure, tho i can imagine the fun in bboying to be taken away =/ do however define what you meant by exploitation?
@skyalvinlee2 the fun in bboying can never be taken away, as long as there is battles, glory, pride and honor involved.
The word "Exploitation" means "To take advantage of someone or a situation for your own personal agenda". So the media, companies, organization have exploited bboys for years. Some promoters and organizers exploit bboys as well. It's way too easy to exploit bboys because there is no unity or organization within.
@dyzeesupernaturalzzz Understood, I suppose unity and organization is inevitable, theres so much to learn that there should be a degree in bboying, I'm from Malaysia and the bboys or even performers here really get exploited, plus the instructors almost never teach about bboy history, i learned everything from the net and try to pass on the knowledge to the beginners. Much respect to you Dyzee. Keep on dancing.
i think 2011 is about time to have real organization
the breaking culture to me is still shallow
and needless to say everyone whos outside of our culture
just dont understand what we do
i for myself began bboying since 2003, graduated from university and i still respect this game. there are many individuals who like me have their own career and are in the scene of bboying, i really do hope that this goes through officially good luck!
I think you're getting ahead of yourself. I suggest that first you simply set guidelines for judging and making events. Do this in some bboy council like you were saying, but start off small work outwards. It's like the Senate and House, they started really small, only to expand to become huge. I think you're trying to do everything at once and get it perfect. You need to start simple. Set guidelines and regulations for the organization first. Implement the rest of the structure as needed.
Level of certification for judges is Iffy to me. And the rankings..It really takes a lot of the "soul" for me. It's going to make it feel like (excuse the reference) Yugi-Oh to me....Ex. Drifterz throws routine ...12 battle points! ..Rivers counters with physics & born..legend combo- originality 15 points! rivers takes it... Personally, I think it's a stretch with the judging systems and rankings take things to an unnecessary level of classification. I do like the sponsor scouting though...
@animal491 I think if you really saw and studied the system in action, you would see that its not like that. That like watching boxing and saying, uppercut, 10 points! 3 combo jab, 30 points. LOL
SO you think there shouldnt be levels of certification? Like any bboy should be able to judge world championships and international battles?? Can you explain why? And all other competitive arts, games, sports and cultures have ranking system. Why do you feel that we shouldn't?
@dyzeesupernaturalzzz I see it more like the judging system in Tae kwan do sparring.. like round kick to mid 1 point spinning round head kick 3 points. something similiar to that. It seems to me as this'll make people dance just straight for points more
I'm not saying "any" bboy can judge, but I see it as a step too far for having to have "certified" judges at events. 1. it makes it a bit difficult for upcoming scenes. 2. People who just aren't in the system, and have been judging already.
haha love how detailed it is. i would definitely love to see this system work. i really like this idea. i have a lot of respect for u dyzee, ur tryin to establish this dance in the world so it will last. the only problem i see is tht as the community grows, there would be more conflict between people but tht can b fixed. i believe in this system and hope it works
good stuff ,,it needs tweaking though .this is mainly focused on events...theres other aspects of bboying besides events jams and battles...we are stuck in that mind frame and need to expand
@thatbboyAli cool. can you elaborate on what other things we should focus on besides the philosphies and theories behind the dance and battling and events and protection for the culture? Would like everyones input
@dyzeesupernaturalzzz well there are other things you can do with dance besides battle ..that seems to be what everyone is mindlessly programmed to do in breaking.. what about opening up our own schools and theaters .... what about ,making our own clothing lines and maybe instruments too like capoeria does.. breaking can really surpass all the other dance forms and be a real career to live off but you gotta do shit right and stop worrying about small stuff like who can smoke who
@thatbboyAli Yes, and how could that stuff even begin to become popular without bboying itself becoming popular first? We aren't programmed to want to battle, thats who we are inside. B-boys are warriors before even being dancers. Do you think the O'G's were happy rich kids who wanted to dance? Naw, they were street warriors, who danced. I agree with you about all these other things that can & need to be done w/ bboying, but we need to start at the first essence, which is the BATTLE.
@dyzeesupernaturalzzz yea but thats when you actually are programmed.. if you feel the only way to be a bboy is to battle just because thats what everyone else does thats being programmed in my opinion.. the og.s battled because thats what the felt inside ..bboying is about being yourself.....what if i dont feel the need to battle i gotta do it just because everyone else is thats not being yourself...i got nothin against battling but it isnt everything ...I agree with what your trying 2 do tho
@thatbboyAli Never said anything about the only way to be a bboy is to battle. However, it is the core essence of it. 4 example, a martial artist, doesn't ever have to fight if he doesn't want to. He can do shows, demonstrations, even teach. But the core essence of learning martial arts, is to fight or defend. The core essence of bboying, is to battle, which was there since the beginning, and will be until the end. We just wanna take that aspect, and make it better
Dyzee, I love how much determination you have in pushing the culture to a more structured format. I'm gonna post this on BloggingBestDanceCrew. Videos like this, really deserve more attention
@KoopaOviasu Thanks bro, please feel free to share, post and spread this anywhere and with anyone who has or shares a similar dream or vision for bboying
This is serious, but it will require a hard work... how will we beggin and get down with this? I dont know, but we should hurry up, this could change everything to a better future. Congrats Dyzz, always brilliant.

With the worldwide ranking system, will each bboy require some kind of bboy id or something?
