When I taught History, I found that ALL the teachers in my school gave up. They got no support from the parents or the community.

I had a teacher who was just like Escelante, but most of my teachers were awful. They were total failures who thought that teaching was beneath them.

bravo Sr Escalante !!! i felt the same way too on my first years of teaching. I still make mistakes and i let my students know it. so that they will know that we are human too. No matter how hard it takes to prepare I still find enjoyment in relating with the younger set. Mr. Escalente visited our city about 5 years ago....and only a few were allowed to meet him...unfortunately I wasn't one of the students selected...but he still remains as one of my top 5 idols........he's inspired me to major in education and want to become a teacher...i start college this fall

Mr. Escalante is a great teacher and motivator. I was inspired by the film "Stand and Deliver". I had graduated high school in 1984 and the movie came out aroung '87 or '88. It's just great to know that there are still dedicated teachers around today like him.

I saw a documentary on Mr. Escalante in my high school math class. My teacher reminded me so much of him. She was very upbeat and made math understable. She liked him too.
