I have a Black Moor called George and two Bobble heads Bailey and Sonny.
I have had George for three months now and he hasen't grew the lightest bit i give my fishes a pinch of flakes George has pretty poor vision so sometimes I have to put my hand in and feed him no fish get harmed or frightend. Do you have any advice on helping him grow? My bestfriend bought a black moor one week after mine it was small but now its huge! Any advice?
@MrRawrllyX In order to grow, your fish needs to eat. If the other fish in the tank are stealing his portion of food, then you will need to put George into a separate container so that he can grow larger.
@BMoor I think i will have to keep him in there but i make sure he gets atleast a flake or two! :) I will soon also try giving him vegetables which might help?
@MrRawrllyX I haven't tried feeding the fish vegetables as I am not entirely sure which vegetables are good. I almost exclusively feed my fish pellets since I think pellet have more food per bite than flakes. Besides, back when I did use flakes, the flakes tended to dissolve easily and get captured in the filter system.
@BMoor Sometimes Yeah thats a good idea I havent ever found any flakes in my filter though which is lucky :)
Neither did I but I asked alot of people and Broccoli,Lettuce,Kiwi,Orange,Peas,Cucumber is what I have been told you can give them im still not 100% Either lol apparently peas cure bladder infecion and stop them from catching it :) x
@BMoor Long time no speak, George [ My black moor ] Sadly died yesterday. :( :(
When we took him out the tank he had a bump on his belly is that cancer?
I thought he had swimbladder at first. I tried Goldmed,Salt,Goldmed again,Peas then Swimbladder medicine I came back from school and my poor george was dead:(
@MrRawrllyX Hi there, it's sad to hear that he passed away. The bump could be anything but I would think that it is probably due to a parasite, bacteria, or virus rather than cancer. Some goldfish types tend to get sick easily and I've read that ornate ones like blackmoors are one of them.
@BMoor I thought he had swimbladder he probably would of been cured if it was swimblader since I used the right things. Somebody said to me it sounds like ammonia poising im not sure what that was exactly. And thanks for the help could you lend me the website by any chance?
@MrRawrllyX I don't remember the site name since it's literally been years but I remember browsing quite a few forums about goldfish. It could be ammonia poisoning. If so, it means that the water is dirty and not being filtered well. This could be due to having too many fish, too small a filter, a broken filter, or too small a tank.
@BMoor Hmm.. I had a 50-55 Litre tank with 3 fish in A medium sized filter it was working well then this month they got put in a 110 Litre tank with a Big filter only 3 fish in
Thats a big guy! I haven't seen any black moor bigger than this. I have got seven black moors of approximately three inch in size. So far only one guy out of the seven has shown some signs of recogninition of the owner, the rest continue to retain the typical fish behaviour. I feed them once in a day and do water change of about 25% weekly. Best of luck to all the black moor owners! Waiting to see more videos like this. And yes, my best wishes to the owner of this fish.
Hi, im wondering if somebody can help me, i have a comet goldfish and lemon goldfish and they chase my black moor around my tank, constantly everyday. My black moor is my favourite and im worried it may die because of stress. Is it normal for fish to do this or are they aggressive towards my moor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
hey dtas a really nice fish!! ^O^ but also what type of blakmoor is it? i have a moor and it has biig eyes and big tail but urs's tail is humungus!and is its fins supposed to b tht ruged?
I was unaware that there was more than one type of Blackmoor. I do know that between the same type of fish, body shapes differ. I've seen some that have really big eyes and small bodies. As for mine, the fins continued to grow with age, hence it is now pretty large compared to the rest of the body.
For this particular fish, it took maybe 3 years but that's because it's a picky eater and I've put it on a diet. It's now 4.5 years old now.
I had some other goldfishes that were gluttons and grew to at least that size within a year. Unfortunately, they tend to pass away quickly and hence the need for dieting.
He's currently the lone occupant of a 40 gallon tank but back when he had companions, he was less active and didn't eat as much. This might have explained why he lives so long as some of the companions ate too much and got obese. There also used to be more plants but it got unmanageable as it clogged up the filters due to being chewed on.
pretty cool fish. I have a black moor as well but not that big. I keep him alone in a 20 gallon tank and he is pretty active...doesn't look lonely or sad.
Thanks, it's quite a sight at night too when the surrounding is black and it's hard to tell where the fins end. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to take decent videos in the dark yet.
its not black moor it is black oranda

These fish certainly know how to recognize people. When somone other than me enters the room, it acts shy and tries to hide behind the flower pot.
