I kinda do this anyway, if I see pretty much anything someone's wearing or carrying that catches my eye I'll compliment them on it. I see no reason not to just because I don't know them; they probably put thought into whatever it is, and I love the smiles it gets when they feel like something about them was exceptional enoguh that it was worth a nice comment from a complete stranger. :-)

I do, but not in such a specific way, I guess. I always thank people for most excellent service on the phone or at the stores, even give kudos to people's supervisors, if they'll let me.

I don't know if you have to "believe in Karma" to do this--I mean, it's not a what-comes-around-goes-around thing. It's an instant smile... at the very least, at least with what this guy does, it's at least a funny thing that happened today, to tell a friend.

For instance I could say "Nice hat" to someone and even if they arent wearing a hat they will take the compliment because they need it in order to get through their crappy mundane life.
