  • defender beats them all.. by far

  • wat is that clown on bowt

  • the LR2 Owned all of them!!!!! and its the cheapest one of them all

  • 2:20 that's fucking awesome !

  • fare play i didnt think the free lander and thr rangrover or the sport would do that lot i know the defender would a seires would but a range rover or disco ok i inprest i cant spell but i sill inprest with that

  • i nuovi fuoristrada non servono a niente ,tranne il mitico defender

  • The ease with which the Freelander & Range Rover made it up the first hill climb compared to the Discovery on their fairly low profile tyres showed how speed is not necessarily needed much of the time when using these vehicles off road, thanks to their excellent traction control systems. Great Video.

  • Absolutely brilliant.

  • wowwwwwwwwwwww

  • why did the instructor ask them to break like that. Why not let the car handle it via Hill Descend control ? (defender, RR, Disco has them)

  • @Le0Heart

My guess? They were trying to actually teach the drivers how to drive offroad rather than say "just let the vehicle's computer do everything".

  • @Le0Heart Defender doesnt

  • ahhahahhahahahhahahahahahhaha the time that the freelander comes up the hill and the reaction of the man is undescribable :P

  • that guy was a fucking know it all......slower thats good....fuck off!!!

  • @rcarlisi63 Well he knows more than you do. Slow is good. Fast only ends up smashing up your vehicle and/or getting you stuck. Although in this case it was probably to preserve the road tyres, they are not designed for that type of rock crossing and would probably be destroyed if attacked too aggressively, and you can't go very fast with four flat tyres, you idiot!

  • That tires are a joke...

  • It's like a Jeep for softies.. "go slow over this rock.. easy does it lad, brilliant! jolly good show".. please, lol

  • @psychdoggg Don't recall him saying 'jolly good show', they have road tyres fitted and obviously your to dumb to realise tyres play a huge roll in off road driving, because of grip and they are alot stronger than road tyres so they had to slow down simply not to damage or slash the tyres on the rocks.

  • @DefenderTDBlack "Obviously your to dumb" to know it's not "my to dumb," YOU'RE TOO DUMB! However, I agree with you on the tire comment.

  • @psychdoggg How am I to dumb if you agree with my comment?

  • @DefenderTDBlack "your" is not the same as "you're" which means "you are" and "to" and "too" are totally different. That is why you are dumb :P

  • Hmmm in estonia atm we got about half a meter snow or more on off road tracks . i wonder if these Land Rovers can go trough thoes .. with the right tires and chans mabye .. I know nothing about cars btw

  • 2:20 Lr2 trying to eat people

  • Land Rover Baby, einfach der Beste ! :), ich kaufe mir ein LR3 :)!

  • That Defender wasnt being tested, It was just there for fun.lol

  • fantastic! in other words... this is the perfect terrain for.... an alfa romeo :D :D :D

  • k why were you testing the defender did you honestly think it would get beaten in any of those places

  • brilliant video - that freelander 2 looks pretty handy!

I have a freelander Mk 1: 55 plate, and I've never taken it anywhere. I would love to try this stuff.

  • Which one is Range Rover Sport Suprecharged? Black or Silver?

  • the black one.

  • good video...... nice to hear engines not a crappy soundtrack

  • Land rovers are great off road. They just need to come with slightly more aggressive tires.

  • Toatally agree. The only reason they don't is because of people who just use their Disco's and RR's for the school run.

  • @SAAB900S16 I disagree. The tyres they come with are great for roads, where 90% of them stay. If you want to off road properly, THEN you get the proper tyres. You don't want 33" mud tyres on constantly for road use, trust me, I've been running them on the road a couple of months now and they are not idea!

  • @84stoney well obviously yes lol I've ridden around and driven plenty of vehicle's with M/T's and they're no fun on the road! They'll take you pretty damn far off road though

  • defender all the way!!

also, i wonder how many RR sport get used in this way?

  • прикольно

  • How come they cut right when the Freelander is about to get to the more difficult part at 5:46? did they have tu pull it? because otherwise it's very odd that they didn't show it. This video fails to show the true capabilities of the 90, the Disco and the RR, 90% of it is quite mild off roading and the only vehicle that could be challenged by any of the obstacles was the Freelander, the title looked promising but it ended up being a quite dissapointing video.

  • yeah dodgy

  • @perolito83 Ground Clearance, Freelander is a very capable School Bus, Built For Purpose, Safe, Large, Comfy, but able to deal with adverse weather, Snow, Flood, Farm Tracks mud etc, not really built for the rocks and deep tracks, needs hi lo transfer box and air sus! BUT STILL A GREAT VEHICLE!

  • its about time someone showed what a good off roader the freelander is

  • yeah but this wasnt that time lol

  • awsome looking defenderm

  • The Corwen car wash. Great fun up our neck of the woods

  • FINALLY a vid on the rr sport supercharged

  • To answer hydecountry100's question, i would personally go with the Defender 90 Td5, because the diesel engine is very reliable and gets great mileage. Also the diesel engine is better for wading into deep water.

  • Nice video, but I as far as I know, LR is very unreliable :(

  • that edd cobly is a right idiot im sorry

  • looks like a good day out.

  • Great video of the Land Rover "range" the only thing is it just makes it more difficult for me to make my mind up on which one i want to go and buy sometime this year i hope, at the moment i cant decide between the Defender 90 Td5 county and the Discovery 2.7 V6, mmmm Decisions, decisions.....!!! HELP !

  • discovery 3 is easier to live with and is a very competent machine unmodified off rd with even standard tyres on. disco 3 has more space inside and quieter than a defender, but a defender is a legend.

  • Defender

  • Defender

  • I know what the others can do, but the new freelander is epically good!

  • my dad has a 90 C reg defender he has been off roading for 25 years and I have been doing it since i was born which was 16 years ago :P

  • He's a qualified instructor. Sometimes you need a spotter to avoid damaging the vehicle and rendering it useless miles from anywhere...

  • who taught this guy to guide a vehicle!!!!! he is going to get himself killed guideing from the front of a vehicle while its traveling downhill..... i would never do anything so stupid!

  • some of thats harder than it looks. this might sound a lil thick but when they go throught the water dont they leak inside??? please reply thanks ;)

  • no, but the defender wil after a year or so, mine does! It just means that when the water comes in the sunroof its got somewhere to go.

  • those tyres dont look stock .....but good differential system

  • they look stock to me!!!

  • Yeah they are def stock....the RR sport even has stock tires.

  • looked pretty tame??

  • the defender was severly understretched, even on roads but i was impressed by the other softroaders

  • The freelander is the only 'softroader' there and its very capable for something given that tag

  • yah does pretty well without low range

  • funny that guy almost got fucked over

  • you mean when he was guiding the Dicovery up that hill?

  • I meant to say, whn he was guiding the Freelander up that hill?

  • The Best 4X4XFAR enough said!

  • Hopefully this Spotter Isnt Ever Put In Controll Of A Real Off Road Expedition, Hes An Idiot, -Teaching People How To Ride The Clutch And Jab The Brakes On A Descent' He Could Kill Someone Or At Least Wreck someones Car, 4tun8ly Its Not A Serious Off Road Tour.

  • obviously you know nowt

he wasn't riding the clutch its called clutch and brake control

  • Err, I Have A Question, Do You Have A 4x4?

  • You prick. have you ever trialled before? this can come in real handy, slitly riding the brake! do you drive corsa by any chance?

  • As In A Vauxhall Corsa?

  • Actually I Dont. But I Do Have A Landrover Discovery, 1998 With M.T. 33's Etc By The way..... What Do You Drive? A Defender? ..... Is It Standard? That Could Explain Why You Think The Way You Do. And No I Dont ThinkI Have Ever "Trialled" Before, Here In Australia We Dont Really Have Parks, We Have Forrestry, With Tracks That Have Been Pushed In By Bulldozers And Cat's, So Its Sort Of 40-80degrees Angle, Loose Shail, Mud, Silt, And Rocks, In Combo With The Most Rediculous Ruts You Can Imagine

  • Oh right you just put youre toe down then! I would have thought the 90 bit was a give away.

  • Video is quite nice, but I still dont know which of Rovers is the best. Seems like RrSport is the one, but Defender is doing excellent. All of them are very good. But I didn`t saw any sand challange. Defender on sand is a king, but someone was trying to convice me that LR3 is doing much better than Dfdr.

  • if u ask me i think the LR2 can hag with the range rover and LR3 by what they put it through here

  • I was very impressed with the freelander. I had heard they wern't that good off road but this vid proves just the opposite.

  • Great Land Rover

  • LandRovers are the best 4x4's, by far.

  • wery good video... i expected more mud not just water but this video was realy great... lr2 is almoust as good as range rover :)

  • Discovery and range rover!!!!! they are the best

  • very very nice.

one of best video on the net

  • very very nice.

one of best video on the net

  • That spotter really really knows what he's doing, that helped so much!

    I love LandRovers!

  • @ParagonOfLust brake brake brake, I think not, never break, let the engine do the breaking to avoid lockup... everyone who goes further than the path knows that.

  • @mikejenkins1000 I suspect they were driving through the brakes, keeping the revs up whilst controlling speed. It's a technique I was taught in driver training at the range rover club here in Victoria. My VW Touareg's traction control seems to make this unnecessary, but perhaps it's needed on the freelander which I think does not have low range gears??

  • all good but you cant beat a old defender

  • Gran macchine..!

  • All those Land Rovers are so cool.

Its like they have an extra purpose.

Not like Jeep or Hummer, which only are for fat americans (sorry but americans are really fat, they had to close a water amusement in Disney Land USA because the boats were sinking). HA HA and more HA HA

  • What does Land Rover have to do with the fat Americans? That is rubbish for logic. Last time I was at Disney, I heard a lot of foreign accents. Rovers are good vehicles, and these ones are doing great for street tyres, but nothing outstanding. I am one of those obese Americans at 6'2" and 180 lbs driving a Jeep made for my colossal American bottom. Also, capitalise American.

  • scaluty hummers and jeep arn't as roony as land rovers

  • I AM NOT FAT I WEIGH 67LBS AND I AM IN 6TH GRADE!

but yea land rovers are cool

and yes hummers are big but the commander and grand Cherokee are not huge I own one.

  • i am an american and not fat. all americans are not fat. and i drive a land rover

  • have u ever driven a jeep ? i do agree the hummer suck. But H1 is an exeption of course, the bad with hummers, weight and fuel economy and a price of 150,000 wich is rubbish for what u get in a Hummer H1. And Jeep don't suck, just try a jeep and trust me you won't be dissappionted, and im talking about the Wrangler. And yes Land rover is the best European 4x4 followed by the mercedes G55, Vw Touareg, Audi Q7 and the ugly porsche cayenne. Jeep Wrangler is the american Nr.1

    4x4 Car.

  • You've clearly never done any off-roading.

The reason those Land Rovers are having trouble getting up that hill at 2:00 is because those low-profile tires they run are only good on pavement. An H1, H2, H3 Hummer or Jeep Wrangler would walk right up that hill.

  • @Pastevin242 yeah these fat americans will kick ur scroney little ass

  • @Pastevin242 i think they are to high class, i wouldnt mind beating the shit out of a jeep but a land rover phew expensive

  • @FPYCRUGBY theres never such thing as to high class.every car ever made can take a beating except most american cars that break.land rovers=best 4x4xfar

  • @iENJOIskating209 but how many people can afford beating up a land rover?

  • @FPYCRUGBY a lot of people actually. theres lots of land rover off road clubs and are hundreds of members with these trucks there

  • @iENJOIskating209 thats cool, I don't mean to argue with anyone I'm just saying, bud mudding with heated seats and GPS would be nice haha

  • @FPYCRUGBY When you say high class in american terms that just means that its but properly, you americans can stick with your hummers and Jeeps but, Land rovers are the cars that mapped the world, take a hint watch the camel trophy because in truth you know i'm right :)

  • @DefenderTDBlack hahah to each his own

  • @Pastevin242 I don't know if you have ever ridden in a Hummer but the seats are rather small. And they are that large so that they can carry the equipment that the military uses. I have much respect for Land Rovers. Hummers can carry a very large payload over difficult terrain.

  • @autofixation how much is that payload? Just in case you dont know, a Defender has a higher payload capacity than a humvee, 1500 kg (3 300 lbs) in 110 HCSCPU and 1380 kg (3036lbs) in 130 DCHCPU.

  • @Pastevin242 agree about the land rovers. the other part not funny...very ignorant

  • @Pastevin242 Yoiu realy dont know nothing about 4x4 development for WWII, and the WILLYS JEEP...

  • Not bad...Series are better though ;)

  • i must say, the def is fucking awsomme

  • Would've been interesting to take a Series and a RRC along see how they compare.

  • When you consider that was all on road tyres, think how good theese machines must be when properly kitted out. Thats like me climbing snowdon In my slippers. A propperly kitted Defender is still the daddy, jeep and hummer are ok but L.R Rules! Its just a big shame the freelander has no low ratio, that'd put itin with the big boys.

  • i have a few things to say about that. 1.the mud flaps is gay. 2.i could go up that in my jeep in two wheele drive. 3. get mudd tires!!!.

  • I really want a 2007 defender now..... I love that bulge on the bonnet.

  • You need some TV production training. Your videos must be as professional as LRO magazine. Lose the clever effects. Every time, you have cut back into the preceding shot and forwards into the next. You often lose the best bit by doing the transition over it. Transitions mean your viewer can't actually watch the action for the duration of the effect. A fade or wipe is used to show a change of place or time - that's the grammar of TV and film. The content badly let down by the production.

  • bloody knob. who gives a monkeys you get the idea.

  • the cars had problems because of the tyres. The factory tyres are made 60% for the road and 40% off

  • Defender is the best :D. Can't wait for my 200tdi Series 2 to be finished!

  • Great show from the Defender!!!!

and have you noticed how all the others sound very modern and quiet and yet the Defender sounds like a bloody tractor!!!!!

You can't help but love it:)

  • the only complaint about the lr2 is the anemic motor and the heavy handed use of cheap hard plastic thats used all over the front and back.

  • most impresive acts of the automobile i have ever seen

  • nice to see actual footage to go with the artical from the mag

  • When i samerica going to get Diesel? F Land Rover and Ford!

  • Truly shows the LR2 is fully capable of doing what most SUVs in its class cannot.

  • Can't you make some more vids with your material? Especially some more Freelander action would be nice :)

  • I loved the fact that even now, in 2007, the Defender still lets in water! Now that's character. Not sure about the colour of that one though!

  • i read the article on this and was surprised the defender had a less wading depth than the disco 3, also i would of thought when freelander 2 was being designed they would of given it a low box ,i'l just stick to my disco 1 for now.

  • Very impressed with both the article and video, well done LRO! I'm not sure which one I'd go for.

  • This was a great feature in the mag with some interesting results. Very nice to see video footage of some of it :)

  • I read the article on this, its really nice to see the actual video of it.
