Yes, the noise comes from the camera. I think it might be the voltage regulator creating that buzzing sound. My unit randomly locks up a few minutes into its operation. I opened it up, and the circuit board is grounded to the front of the camera around the lens, except I think it's just plastic painted to look like metal, which would explain the lock-ups. The circuit board should be grounded to the positive terminal of the battery. The image sensor is great, but the audio and lockups are bad.

Do not buy this camera. You'll be glad you didn't later on. The camera is garbage, which is exactly where I put it after it stopped working 2 weeks after I received it in the mail.

Bought the exact same camera for $85 last week (off eBay) and the funny thing is that some of the youtube test videos do not seem to have that buzzing audio problem,

but,

yep, mine makes exactly the same noise as yours. Exactly heh.

Otherwise its actually great, easy to use, great picture .

If anyone discovers a trick to solving that audio buzz.. please let me know too heh

I had exactly the same problem and sold mine (half price heh) to a dude who did want great HD pictures (for the price) but didn't care about the lousy audio.

So maybe that is the recommendation for anyone else:

- This does have surprisingly good HD picture quality (for the price,

but,

- This has terrible audio quality. Don't buy if you need and value audio quality.

I have one of these cameras, it sucks. Hear the noise from the mic? Also, the camera eats through batteries even when turned off. Product support is even worse. If you complain about the battery life they just tell you to use rechargeable batteries and then stop replying to your emails. For reference, a battery powered product consuming electricity when turned off is indicative of major electrical faults. Don't waste your time or money on this piece of crap.

Yes you can take still pictures with it. I got one off ebay for a great price. You can find them on there for about $80 - $90 bucks. Not bad considering the quality and features it has to offer. Cheers!!

Yeah, but that zoom's digital, not optical, big difference in quality. However, I'm probably still gonna get one since it's affordable doesn't look to bad either. :P

I just bought one of EBay myself...that sound it makes when you turn it on is too much!!! Why would they do that to us? And what video editing software do you use? Windows Movie Maker doesn't read .mp4

Try renaming the file to .mov instead of .mp4. That seems to work with all the video editing software I'm experimenting with atm. Oh and if you go into the options, turn off "Beep" and its gets rid of the annoying start up sound.

I did turn "beep" off...it still does it. I have to put my finger over the speaker everytime. It's really a pain in the a having to convert every video I take just to edit them. And then in Windows Movie Maker, the video is never in line with the audio, and the video is always choppy. Perhaps it's my computer, but not sure.

I'm not a big expert on video programs but I've used Nero v8 Ultimate and I've had no problems so far. You can try it with mp4. It might work. If you need me to I can send you a copy myself.
