They were on a mountain with all gear lost, probably no watter and no food. To start digging without shovels would have been their death. Unbelievable guys are speaking like this. However if you are on a mountain riding bc these things can happen. Your luky to be alive. See it as a gift and go back out riding in their memory.

Mike Stier and I have been friends since grade 1 up until the day he was killed. As much as it hurts to say this, but Jeff made the right decision by leaving the rest of them behind. 3 survivors are better than none at all. The funeral today (Friday) was so hard knowing my friend coulda been saved, but he wasn't. Hearing this story from Jeff in person face-to-face at the funeral really helps you understand his emotion. I was only 4 years old and was caught in a blizzard walking down the railway tracks out of town in Saskatchewan Canada. I was picked up by the police on skidoos. There was 150 people looking for me. If they had not found me I would have peished. So I know what it is like to when this type of thing happens.
