so is there a special RAM i should buy or is it just like a regular but version "DDR2". I just wanna know what i should look for so i dont buy the hardware that works on the computer.

silly question but if i buy 1 new an do this the day i get it i take it the warrenties void, an also will this upgrade cause any problems as im not a computer wizz i dunno if itl cause problems and do u need any new software or setup program to install the ram chip?
Thanks very much for your video. I was able to do my 1GB -> 2GB upgrade very easily (after a scare where I realized I hadn't pushed the memory in far enough and the PC wasn't booting!). Love it!
Hi, I just bought this same exact netbook, i also bought the 2gb ram up grade, but when i installed the new ram the netbook turns on but the screen remains black and then it turns off after a while. Can some please help me??
You might have had the same problem I did at first. You can just tilt the memory card in and then clip the tabs closed -- you really have to push the card into the slot so that it sinks in 1-2 mm, and THEN tilt it down so that the clips really sink into the punched-out slots on either side. THEN it will boot up okay. I almost returned the memory card because it didn't work at first (blank screen and no boot, like you had). Hope that's the problem. Good luck!
This is a very educational and helpful video that answered every possible question on this RAM upgrade. Yes, by the way, it is DDR2 RAM, but sites like Amazon point you to the correct type when you bundle your purchase.
Thanks, Damixt! I got the card in okay, but didn't know what it wasn't being recognized. After rebooting a few times while pressing F2 and not getting the BIOS screen, I finally figured out to pop the battery out, put it back in, and try again. It worked perfectly... F2, then F10 to save, and now my upgrade is recognized. Thanks! (For those who asked if the upgrade helped, with 1GB streaming video from Fancast was choppy, with 2GB it plays smoothly)
Hi Damixt: Thanks much for the great video --- we just upgraded on my machine, one dropped screw, one flashlight later, putting the new ram, old ram, new ram in, we figured out how to do it - paying close attention to how you pushed in and popped in the new ram was critical -- couldn't have done it without you, thanks!
is it hard to install all the drivers like sound drivers and graphic drivers and so on ?some dude wants 65$ to do that and se if everything is working, is it worth ?
Very nice - thanks! I did just as you said, popped in a Crucial CT25664AC800 memory I bought from Amazon, and all is well. The compartment cover sticks a bit when you lift it up, but don't worry. There are no flanges on the sides - just two at the bottom, on the side opposite the screws.
nope got 32bit does support more that 2gb it supports up to 3gb. I have 32bit xp and know it for a fact being i have 4gb ddr2 dual channel and it only sees the 3gb.
Thank you for the correct answer. There was another video that someone had it stuck in their head that it was xp32 bit's maximum which I already knew can use a max of 3GB.
it depends my friend on whatever u want to use it.
Let's say ur running alot of programs such as FIrefox / email client / Adobe Photoshop / MSN client / and of course Anti Virus.
if ur on 1GB RAM then ur eeepc will start run slowly . and cant handle multitasking Editing n Browseing ... u will notice that ur laptop become slow to respond.
But If u plug the 2GB RAM , then u will notice the difference , ur eeepc will handle alot of multitasking n programs running perfectly without being slow .
1- the eeepc comes with 1 memory slot because its a (Netbook), but other (Notebook)cames with 2 memory slots, which means how about using the unplugged 1GB RAM of ur eeepc on one of ur family laptop that supports DDR2.
2- to be honest not worth it. save it for any regular laptop upgrade that cames with 2 mem slots.
3- nope .. 2GB is Maximum limit for windows XP 32bit, windows XP cant read more than 2 GB RAM, but vista n Windows 7 can read up to 8GB +RAMS.
Wrong, 4GB is the max Windows 32bit can address. 64bit can address up to 17.2 BILLION GB of ram. The 2GB limit comes from the chipset that the Intel Atom platform uses, rather then 32bit technology itself.
Very helpfully, I was hesitant to snap the cover off and found this video.
BTW, The laptop manual (508) recommends to disable your bios Boot Booster before updating any hardware. Which is what I did but I would bet I did not have to do it.
I just did this. My 1000 seems to load pages faster and spend less time "thinking" Good video man. MAKE SURE YOU PRESS THE RAM IN FIRMLY OR YOUR PC WONT START!!
My new ram stick didn't seat properly so the Asus wouldn't start.
On the third try I gently wiggled the stick into the seat and it started up but didn't show the upgrade - I used the F2 and then F10 to save and exit after it showed the 2 gig.
Hitting F2 is totally not necessary. It has NOTHING to do with the system recognizing the memory. I have the exact Asus. I simply installed the RAM, booted up and verified under "My Computer" that the memory was installed.
yea the touchpad buttons are quite stiff, i dont like that very much. I just got the 2 gig because i was at frys electronics and i saw it on sale. im not planning on using it for anything special.

Here are the new properties displayed under System Properties after the installation :
CPU N80 @ 1.66 GHz --> OK
980 MHz (???), 1,99 Go Ram
Why 980 instead of the previous 1,66 GHz ?
THANKS !!

Intel Speedstep. It lowers the CPU clock when it is not under load to save power as well as to reduce heat.

I'm new to computer ownership but I have used computers for search for years.
1. Why and when should a person upgrade the RAM on this model?
2. What does it do better if you add it or does worse if you don't add it?
3. Is any RAM ok or should a person buy a certain make and model?
4. What do you do with your 1 GB RAM when you remove it, if the eee is the only computer you own?
5. Is it worth anything online/ebay/craigslist...?
Thanks

i'll answer ur questions:
1- the eeepc comes with 1 memory slot because its a (Netbook), but other (Notebook)cames with 2 memory slots, which means how about using the unplugged 1GB RAM of ur eeepc on one of ur family laptop that supports DDR2.

Wrong, 4GB is the max Windows 32bit can address. 64bit can address up to 17.2 BILLION GB of ram. The 2GB limit comes from the chipset that the Intel Atom platform uses, rather then 32bit technology itself.
