@JJO117 first of all, they're called records, compact disks are a digital format, 45s and LPs are not "old CDs," cassettes are not "square CDs" and 8-Tracks are not "Awful-sounding CDs" those "lines" are tiny little grooves. that white arm has a diamond tipped needle (called a stylus) on the end of it that moves back and forth (and up and down for stereo) to create the sound. The sound is so quiet that it requires either a receiver with phono jacks or a phono pre-amp to make the music audible.
