  • I am useless at learning things through video, I'm only watching this because watching Robb Flynn teaching guitar is insane.

  • WHAT ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT? If you guys are guitarist i'm SURE you also FUCK UPS MANY TIMES AS WELL.

  • does that guitar have 30 frets?

  • @valdivia562 No.. -_-

  • @arxidi666 XD :'(

  • @auremetal lol what?

  • @valdivia562 24

  • i have met robb on several occasions and he is one of the most easy goin dudes in metal! i have his and all of MH signatures tattooed on my arm with the logo

\m/ MACHINE FUCKIN HEAD! TILL I'M FUCKIN DEAD \m/

  • Cool dude

  • That chorus riff is beautiful

  • @EviscerationK yup, the Halo chorus riff gives me goose bumps every time. Especially when Robb and Phil do that harmonics part w/o drums and bass.

  • Cool thing about this band is when your watching them your not thinking about how sloppy his playing is...your busy headbanging!

  • Like WAAHH NAAAHH NAAHH

  • Whats the purpose of hitting the muted strings while soloing? Desire 7:43 He does that several times in this solo, sweeping across all the lower strings which are muted.

  • @muteeurrahman A lot of guitarist tend to do that during solos, especially when they use wah pedals. In my opinion it sounds cool with the wah since the muted notes add a little more of a dirty sound to the note that's actually being hit. There's no real reason though I would say.

  • @bkellum89 Thanks man.

  • @muteeurrahman It's called "raking." It's used to add a percussive sound right before the note. Very common in blues and in more "soulful" metal lead playing.

  • 0:41 Jack black impression? :P Great lesson! I love Rob Flynn, he's a fantastic musician, as are all of Machine FUCKING Head!

  • I love that he makes mistakes. Show's that he's just human :) I can't remember if he mucked up when I saw them live, I was too distracted by his awesomeness!

  • Stop all the bitching about the fuck ups and all the technique vs feel crap.

First off this is an instructional video, the dude isnt really into keeping it all tight coz its not an actual live show, and the fact that hes doing this with a camera on his face might add a bit to the nervousness. Granted, hes not anywhere near the best lead player, but every MH live show ive seen, not a single time did they fuck up, and thats what important, MH live shows are fuckin insane and solid and they deliver

  • @Henry14arsenal2007 exactly. And 90% if the people bitching here have never played a flying-v guitar while seated and wouldn't know how difficult it is.

  • @joe99173122 I own a Jackson Randy Rhoads V and it is tough to play sitting down. Robb and Phil have always been great lead players. I met them years ago when they were in Vio-Lence. Cool dudes.

  • @joe99173122 I have, I found it stupid easy! Played it for the first 3-4 months of ever playing guitar. I loved it :) Explorers are fucking ridiculous sat down :/

  • @Henry14arsenal2007 speak the truth

  • Phil! You're fuckin doing it!! Haha that halo riff has to go down in history as one of the best. So happy MH came back heavy and more metal even though I love the burning red album! Robb you are awesome! I laughed at the end "do it 3 hours a day like when you're at the gym!" haha great

  • "you gotta hit that shit man!.. Take it easy" LOL

  • Comment removed

  • wah-wah xD

  • Is it just me or does Rob remind you of Michael J. Fox when he's displaying his vibrato technique??

  • @MyScaryScrotum HAHA oh my god dude that is such a horrible thing to say XD

  • 7:24 omg the slide sounds like a game fuckin boy xD

  • his fuck ups are always forgiven!! we love you robb!!!

  • @shane013088 I guess his shit vibrato has so much soul to you.

  • @shane013088 how are you going to tell me what I'd rather see. No shit i'd rather see people, did I say "midi programming is better than people actually playing "? Nope. And he fucking sucks at vibrato. He writes great songs, but his leads are primitive.

  • have not listened? this is not his part! and the fact that he can play it is just another proof that he is a great musician.so it wasnt perfect...so fucking what! he is doing the rythem anyways and not the lead.im sure that even james hattfield himself can play kirks parts.

  • lol his shirt is hilarious

  • PHIL, HEY.... YOU CAN FUCKING DO THAT! LOL!

  • THIS GUY LOOKS LIKE A COOL PERSON TO JUST CHILL WITH!

  • @megaboxxx ive had the pleasure of meeting rob flynn, briefly. hes a really cool down to earth genuinely nice guy.

  • oooh man! THE LOW HIGH JOKE IS AWESOME!!!

  • hey, phil, you can fuckin do that!

  • @streatcarp clearly, you are a shitty guitar player judging by the fact you are totally ok with fuck ups and your so called emotion and feeling? ok buddy, i would certainly rather here a guitar player touch my soul by playing a solo where he doesn't mess up rather then a sloppy ass solo where he fucks up alot. Idk maybe i'm weird for liking my guitar players to have some chops.

  • @fallenoffthestage or maybe you just fell off the stage too often.

  • @fallenoffthestage you are stupid if you think robb flynn doesnt have guitar chops. so he messed up on some instructional video who fucking cares its not a studio take, christ. people like you would rather see fucking computers on stage rather than a human who could possibly make a mistake. if all music was completely free of imperfections, there would be no soul left.

  • Actually I'd love it if who could. It would make him a better guitar player. Maybe he should learn how to use vibrato tastefully and skillfully too. I love machine head and Flynn is bad ass. But he needs to work on his chops.

  • @fallenoffthestage Why? It's worked to now. Here's a hint for all you faggots who seem to want perfection. This is called music from the soul. It has FEELING. LIFE. MEANING. EMOTION. No one gives a fuck about perfection, it's about the vibe.

  • yeah he fucked up bad but realistically hes playing HIS parts every single night on tour. im not surprised he fucked up on phils parts simply because its not what hes used to playing there

  • gotta practice dude FUCKING practice gotta hit that shit three hours a day jajaj rob fucking rocks MACHINE FUCKING HEAD

  • I find it true, even for myself, that playing riffs i have written slower then my intended speed is actually pretty damn hard sometimes. It is ingrained in your head to fit this one speed, so playing it at a different speed can cause me to forget notes here and there when I actually have to think about what I am playing.

  • @IllusiveMan031 yup, exactly, playing slow breaks the natural rhythm of the piece

  • Rob is a man!!!

  • @TheJamesFlynn Yes he is!!

  • @flownomis right?

  • After watching this, Rob Flynn has unfortunately gone down in my list of good guitar players. Slooooppyyyyy.

  • So you'd rather he was a robot that hits every single note, exactly as intended, exactly on time? If you wanted that, listen to MIDI programming.

  • That particular guitar is a Gibson Custom Shop Flying V baritone especially made for Robb Flynn, since the majority of Machine Head's song are tuned to drop B, and with a baritone scale length he aquires much better tone and playability with these low tunings. That is why the neck is so long, a 27" scale length, as opposed to 24.75" on a standard Flying V.

  • @Olocatolay Actually, this was an ESP custom shop that he replaced the truss rod cover on to make it say Gibson. It actually is an ESP though. His first and only custom baritone V that has been done by Gibson/Epiphone was only recently made. It's an Epiphone.

  • @KellyS289 This is not his ESP Custom Shop Baritone V. It is correct that he also has got an ESP Baritone V, but the main differences between the two is that the headstock on the ESP has a slightly different shape (due to Gibson copyright issues), and the inlays on the fretboard on the ESP are the square Machine Head logo instead of the Gibson block inlays you can see in this video.

His ESP guitar was the first one he had built, but the guitar used in this video is his newer Gibson V.

  • @Olocatolay No, this is most certainly an ESP with a Gibson truss rod cover on it. You can find pictures of him holding it in the ESP shop.

  • @KellyS289 And this particular guitar is a one-off Gibson Custom Shop guitar built for Robb Flynn personally, and must not be confused with the Epiphone signature model which is available for sale.

  • @Olocatolay Again, the first baritone that Gibson made for him is the signature epiphone, this is an ESP. Look it up. Any site that lists his gear will tell you that this guitar is an ESP with a Gibson truss rod cover.

  • I DIDNT REALISE HOW HUGE THAT FRICKEN GUITAR WAS :o

  • @cometothepartay i think its a custom 27" scale baritone v that he uses so it looks really big

  • Not only is he the most amazing guitar player but he's the nicest and coolest guy I have ever seen. Machine heads music is really something else, their amazing duel soloing is insane and the way robb sings and the way he shouts (unlike most other metal singer who scream) really makes their music emotional defferent and amazing.

  • The riff from Halo is excellent. It didn't take me long to learn it :D \m/

  • he's so underrated

  • aw man, he's definitely a way way better song writer than alexi LOW HIGH....

  • @yoe91 i disagree, you probably haven't heard all of c.ob's material, machine head is not even thrash, they are like disturbed or godsmack in a way. c.o.b is phenomenal,

  • @jedsebastian Agreed, that dude doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • @jedsebastian are you semi - retarded? maybe you should check out machine heads ENTIRE discography before making a comment. there are only about two albums where they could even be considered anything close to disturbed. oh and btw, they won best thrash album of the decade. beating out megadeth, metallica and slayer. they're a hell of a lot closer to thrash than bodom. Although i do enjoy bodom as well, they're closer to finish death metal than anything.

  • @shiftxdXD i knew this band even maybe before you were listening to anything metal, his former band VIO-LENCE with demmel were the real thrash(1985-1993). then he created machinehead in 94 with logan mader on the lead guitar, i bought the record in 1994 with hopes it would be thrash but to my surprise they changed their style to a nu-metal type thing with lots of harmonics but the guitar solo were forgotten, the second record was even worse, so don't lecture me about them as a real thrash band.

  • @jedsebastian stop talking bullshit, MH arent solely thrash, they, mix thrash with groove, thats their signature style. And nu-metal just stole riffs from groove bands, dumbed them down and made them more accessible, and if you cant hear the guitar solos in their songs, thats your problem, there are plenty of them.

  • @shiftxdXD but lately they realised that how crappy they had become, they comeback with the blackening in 2008 and i know you're talking about this album being thrash and gathered them some awards, how old are you btw?

  • @yoe91

Not agree. What about kissing the shadows?

  • im gonna get yolked... but for my fingers... : ) .... \m/ MACHINE 'FUCKING' HEAD \m/

  • He's so cool and his coolness is improved by him not hitting every note perfectly :D

  • i love robb but his vibrato pretty much sucks

  • @flownomis I agree. Much more like Kirk Hammett as opposed to Zakk Wylde.

  • thanks robb thanks just amazing

  • This is the first metal guitarist i ever watched live.It was Violence,Santuary, and Testement. I've been following Robbs bands ever since. Great musician and songwriter.

  • @madieninja holy crap, that would have been 20 years ago?
