no you dont have to pay for mounts. you have to be lvl 30 to get your first mount and 60 for the faster ground mount then at 70 you can get your flyer and 77 you can fly in northrend.... but you "pay" for them with the currency you make ingame

next major content patch (3.2.0), they are changing those levels. a 60% land mount at 20 for 5G (skill and mount), a 100% at lvl 40 for (i think) 100G, a 150% flying mount at 60 for 600G and a 280% flying mount at 70 for 5000G. at 77, you can learn cold weather flying, to fly in northrend for 1000G.

and if you really want a gold sink: a vendor in dalaran sells a mount with 2 passenger spots and vendors for 20,000G before discounts.

It doesn't work anymore because mobs aren't kiteable anymore. They'll reset and walk back while dodging everything.

I'm not sure if this still works, but you can heal/buff a mind controlled player/npc. What you have to do is MC the target, target them again and click the heal or buff (they have to be an instant cast.) You might be able to do that to keep the Aldor guy alive.

You get teleported out from Shattrath, and you get a debuff which makes you a bit slower.
