No, the balance board is not needed. You can play with just the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. I, however, like using the balance board because it IS a bit more immersive.
The length of the game varies depending on your playing habits. The tracks themselves are not that long, as they can be finished in a matter of minutes. However, if you want you can always repeat courses/tracks to get higher scores. There are also quite a few side games you can take part in, as well as the different challenge modes. To me, this game has tremendous replay value. This game also has a 4 player split-screen mode.
let me give you a hint, YOU HAVE TO GET WE SKI AND SNOWBOARD! its the best! 2 mountains! better courses! you can almost go anywhere! there r avelanches on the 2nd mountain too! it rocks! all of you have to get it! you will love the game. lol it rocks! =D (sunwuku, ur a good skier) =D
Wii Fit and this game are two entirely different games. I didn't really like the ski modes in Wii Fit, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game. If you're wondering if this game is better when playing with the Balance Board or not, then my opinion would have to be yes. That's just opinion though. It might be easier for others by playing with just the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.
The Balance Board is not needed to play this game. The only thing the board is used for AFAIK, is steering left or right. The game itself is fully playable with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.
