This is one of the famous Ottoman empire era song. That's why all of the ottoman (for example beirut, anatolia, macedonian, romanian, bulgarian) states says this song is our's.
firstly it's turkish. the problem occurs name similarity of şiki şiki baba and uski uski baba. uski uski baba is traditional macedonian song and it's very famous for the macedonians. kocani mostly plays this one. they also play şiki şiki baba as well. but it's just a cover like the other covers. there's only a name similarity between these song. şiki şiki baba is a funny song that becomes famous after the old turkish comedy (70s) film; atla gel şaban.
And I am Serbian and I can tell you this is not our music...Not at all from any of the territories of former YU. It sounds Bulgarian, maybe Skopjani. it is most likely, indeed, Turkish. In respect to Bregovic -- while very, very talented, the man is one of the biggest plagiators of Balkan folk music. He often 'borrows" from Bulgarian, Romanian, Russian and even Greek melos. He admits as much, if you talk to him. He borrows, but improves it and makes it his own.

it's completely and truly Turkish song and please do not try to steal this one idiots. at least this one because whenever you see "a Turkish thing", you think that you need to steal it. i understand your jealousy but hold yourselves back sometimes.

you moron, your ass is so turkish crash that you have no clue where its melody/refrain comes from. the serbs have it right! listen to this video starting at 0:59 through 1:20. Then, look for "Anna Netrebko / A. Dvořák - Rusalka" on you tube and pay attention after 1:20. IT'S NOT EVEN DVORAK! "rusalka" was based on slavic folk songs. Which means this song is well over a century old as rusalka is 110 years old! IT'S A SLAVIC NOT A TURKISH THEME! MORON!
I am Turkish, yesthis song was popular back in the day, especially as soundtrack in some classics...I was just wondering though, why instead of apreciating the music and effort spent on it, trying to claim the song? When people are going to enjoy something with no strings attached....FU ALL!
onur i am greek. i did not claim the song for the greeks. its origins are slavic, this version is american (the band is from New Mexico), the lyrics you know are turkish. who said we are not enjoying it? it was a turk who tried to claim the song and that is not true. its origins are slavic. period. f back 2 u buddy!
@deezinet It's Kocani Orchestra's song!!It's a Macedonian Romani brass band from Kočani, MACEDONIA!! Their music is based on Gypsy tunes from various parts of the Balkans and on Turkish rhythms, with a sprinkle of Latin flavour.
@durlanski It`s not important if it`s Serbian, Macedonian or Bulgarian. Music has no nationality, but if you want to know this song was originally performed by The Kocani Orkestar. Kocani is in the Republic of Macedonia. So, this song doesn`t have any relations with Serbia. Don`t try to steal music as tried with Macedonian history!
@kocevk For music itself - it is not important. For some people - it is. Especially historians. Да си ми ти жив и здрав. Мани политику. И онако смо сви Срби ;)
Props to the Goran reference, I agree! Bregović is amazing live; I have yet to see Beirut or Kocani Orkestar, but I'm sure they'll be equally amazing.
