  • I always liked Destiny. He struck me as easily the most relatable figure in my case. To just watch the world and not give a damn....

  • Who is Destruction in the trailer, and what are the clips from? He looks like Viggo Mortensen or Tim Roth. Brian Blessed would be a great choice to play him (especially with how Neil Gaiman has said he had Blessed in mind when he wrote the books), though I don't think there's anything he's done that could be used for clips for the character.

  • i think mark strong would be perfect for dream, watch the intensity and presence he exudes in body of lies, especially his introductory scene. plus he plays Septimus in stardust and already looks the part in that, and needless to say the voice is exactly what one would expect from dream, sordid lonesome and.. english.

i believe death should not be played by a well known actor, intrigue and mystery should surround her.

oh! yo landi Visser for delerium.. that is all.

  • Wait who are you talking about? I tought you're talking about Sandman, Spider-Man's enemy

  • @DarknessMaster55

Oh cool! You're about to be introduced to something special.

Look up The Sandman by Neil Gaiman, if you're fond of graphic novels, dreams, classic literature, and general oddness :)

  • @bloodrunsclear Scuse me, What is the movie at 1:12 and then at 1:13 with the fat guy?

I recognize all of the bits you edited excep for those two. Please help!

  • @MsBickle76

The fat guy is from the original Blade (watch if you haven't! Best vampire movie ever!)

The burning hand is from a cutscene to Vampire Rain.

  • johnny depp would make a perfect Dream

  • HAHA i knew i wasn't the only one who pictured Johnny Depp as Dream.

  • This is sooooo cool! Ah, if only it were real…

  • I always felt that the role of Sandman/Morpheus should be played by multiple roles throughout the movie or series of movies. Obvious good Morphaeus' are Johnny Depp and David Bowie (you should ad some scenes from labyrinth to this) Also, just as different artists where used so should different directors... Tim Burton and Zack Snyder, Jos Whedon (of Serenity fame), Christopher Nolan, Peter Jackson,M. Night Shyamalan and David Lynch all are good candidates and would each bring something unique t

  • OMG! Anyone know of a tv production in the works? I just heard about it!

  • @TargetShootMe They just dropped it. It's been optioned by HBO for a year, but they said they're shelving it again. You've got to admit, it's going to be risky and expensive - but if it's anything whatsoever like this trailer, it would be the only film I ever watch. How could anything hold up after that?

  • That was totally fucking epic!

  • its the guy from lie to me

  • Oh, how I wish it was real! Viewers, this can be found, along with tons of other great content, at thesandmanproject (dot com) Please have a look, and thanks! If you know what's up and you want to learn what to DO then this will be a good investment of your time.

  • Anyone but Johnny.

  • i like! well done

  • Am i the only one who wouldn't want a Sandman movie? Surely the beauty of the graphic novels lies in the reflections of your mind in the colours and hues, the ink holds more power than the screen, since when we read, our mind creates an infinite number of worlds.

  • This video simply does not get old. I would both love and hate to see a Sandman movie.

  • If they wanted to make the sandma movie, something I really hope they do, I think they should spit into a trilogy at the very least I may even go as far to say you could make 6 and still not cover everything. The first one would have to cover the Fables and Reflections and the Dolls House because although the storys in those series resinate they really are a tiny bit of a closed story ark

  • I think Sandman graphic novels must eventually become movies, but this a risky and difficult job.I hope they do the best, whenever they make it.They shall do at least for for a beginning.I hope soon :)

  • this is fucking stupid and doesn't capture anything the sandman comic represents. whoever made this should kill them selves.

  • @effthedodgers dude dont be a prick. and its kind of hard to capture what exactly the sandman comic represents when there are no true clips from it as of yet te way i see the person who made this should give themselves a pat on the back for trying so hard to make this with clips from other tv movie or whatever clips and not "kill themselves" as you harshly claim they should do..its fanmade with no true film or tv show its own so of course its not going to hot the mark 100%

  • @jubilantfunkfuzz

I'm grateful you enjoyed it! I'm not overly upset people are fastidious about this trailer because it indicates that people are very passionate about Gaiman's fantastic series :)

  • Whats the name of the song that you picked? Although I don't know much the graphic novel, the music you picked really helps on giving an idea of what the book's concept feels like. :)

  • @jacksrumgone

Its called Gregorian Dream by X-Ray Dog :)

  • NEIL PLEASE MAKE A SANDMAN MOVIE!

  • WOW...This is really well done. MUCH better than most fake trailers I've seen...

  • Guillermo del Toro to direct FTW

  • sandman should only be adapted into a tv series. A single movie can't do it justice.

  • @turnippooferman Agreed. It's too long and bizzare for a single film, maybe even a series of movies as we'd miss out on all the short stories, which where some of the best parts of the series. But a big budget tv series. I can see it, I think it's the perfect medium for comic adaptions in general. Personally if I had to be honest I'd rather they left it alone. I'm sorry, but if you thought Watchmen was great you didn't get the comic. I don't want my favourite comic adapted like that.

  • @phishwithextracheese the watchmen movie was OK. It could have been better, especially on CERTAIN POINTS *cough*the ending*cough*. Sandman doesn't even need to be big-budget. It would be super cool if it looked like a low-budget mid-90's BBC series like Neverwhere.

  • @turnippooferman people have been talking about this a lot, and I think the best idea would be an animated tv series. It could follow the ever-changing art style of the comics, it could do think a hell of a lot more cheaply, and we wouldn't have to worry about bad casting.

  • @willowsnsakura that way, we could have Gaiman do the voice of Morpheus, as it should be. lol

  • The best person to direct a Sandman film would be Christopher Nolan, he has an eye for the poignant and dramatic. Tim Burton would wreck the franchise the same way he did Batman and Alice in Wonderland - weirdness for the sack of weirdness.

  • This is awesome. I made one as well. Have a look? Sorry to seem like a spammer.

  • if anyone was to do this movie, in my opinion, it would have to be tim burton.

  • wats the song called, its epic as!

  • Wicked. *_*

  • i can see the story of the 1st and the 4th volumes combined into a movie (with the flashback sequence at the start of the second at the start of the film). the story would be driven by the first third of the film taken up by the sandman getting his tools back, then the meeting with all the endless, leading to sandman trying to save nada from hell

  • @virtualpigmaster

This definitely. To bad it will probably never happen. :C

  • (gir voice)

    i love you.....

    MORPHEUS SHALL BE MIIIIINEEEEE!!!!

  • Trying to put a tale of Morpheus and the endless on the silver screen would blow my mind like the Watchmen movie would have if there had been the damned Ozymandias' alien thing at the end.

  • Hey, cool trailer. Nice n strange like a Sandman movie should be! Check out my short film about Delirium if ya like:)

  • Delerious could you a shot or two of Tori Amos ;)!

  • This is really well done. Too bad a Sandman movie is pretty close to impossible to make.

'Course they said that about Watchmen, so who knows...

  • I'd say that the sandman would be best as an adult animated series with each episode being a hour long and each book being a mini season.

  • siouxsie sioux is the only one capable of playing death!

  • What is the name of the song you used?

Otherwise, a very remarkably well-made (fake) trailer you made.

Neil Gaiman wouid be impressed! :)

  • If there was to be a Sandman movie, Gaiman would have to pen it, it would have to be an orginal story set in the Sandman universe and then the Endless would have to be secondry characters. The sheer scope and layers in the Sandman world this would be the only way I could see it happening.

This is a great fan trailer though. Full five.

  • The only way I'd want a Sandman film would be if Neil was involved in it or at least overseeing it, I still remember some anicdote he gave about someone from Warner Brothers coming with an idea for a Sandman film that had Dream saying "Beware puny mortals! I am the Sandman! BWAA HA HA HA HA! HA!"

  • What was the extract at 1:19?

  • to be fare though

dream is about 6ft4 and really thin, so johnny depp would need to get real thin and grow a bit, i think that for dream you'd probably need to cast an unknown actor with robert smith style hair, and long thin limbs

  • you are a professional, man!!!compliments!!!!

i love sandman too and that would be a percert trailer..... you deserve a job for this :=)

  • nice video.

I wonder if you would let me use some parts of it for my diploma work for English and American Civilisation. I'm doing my work about Neil Gaiman's Sandman

  • Sure thing! Please credit me if so though, at least as editor :)

  • Of course, I won't pretend I made it. It wouldn't be fair and ethical.

    Thank you a lot!

  • You did an amazing trailer. Your editing skills are great.

Neil Gaiman said nothing about his "perfect" Dream, but he said a few things about his perfect cast. Tori Amos as Delirium, Wynona Rider as Death, Sean Connery as Destiny, Annie Lennox as Desire.

  • I'm sad to disappoint Neil Gaiman but besides Death I don't think the other actors would fit in their roles.

But then again, that just me and he is the mighty Neil Gaiman.

    :)

  • Actually, i could see them in those roles, except Sean Connery.

But, now that they are too old, you might say, for the roles, except Wynona [Who i think that would be perfect as Death], i think in other people for the cast.

Angelina Jolie would be a good Desire, in my opinion. Evanna Lynch almost born to be Delirium. Though, i haven't been thinking about all the cast members.

Anyway. If Neil Gaiman likes the choices, who am i to refuse?

  • annie lennox would be a great desire! I heard some where: Desire is neither man nor woman, but both in a very tight skirt. :)

  • Johnny Depp as Dream makes perfect sense, i had never thought the thought before i saw this.

but i agree with the person who suggested miniseries, Sandman wouldnt do well as a movie as the character arc wouldnt suit that short a format. A miniseries, however, would be perfect. It would still have to be about 20 hours or so.

  • While this is a good edit, I think that, unfortunately, this doesn't really capture any of the spirit and mood of the book in my opinion. It looks more like a superhero action movie than a work of magic, horror, and existentialism.

I think I agree with Gaiman that this should never be a movie. Honestly, I think a LOT of things that people want to see as movies would be much better as mini-series if anything. Even then, I wouldn't want anyone to make anything not approved by the author.

  • fantastic!

  • 1:13 whats that?

  • The burning hand? That's from a game called Vampire Rain.

  • This is ..... kind of completely inaccurate, image-wise for most characters. But it's a good idea, as long as they stuck to the story and didn't screw anything up. I think the same person that directed Neverwhere should direct a Sandman movie.

  • I wish I could have just posted the official Sandman trailer :/

I agree, or Zack Synder. I wonder how he'd do?

  • No, I'd say Guillermo del Toro. He's the best with fantasy comic adaptations, and likewise, the fantasy genre as a whole. Neil Gaiman once met him during the shooting of Hellboy II.

Heard it on an interview regarding the 20th Anniversary of Sandman.

  • I would love to a sandman movie with unknown actors ... filmed kinda like mirrormask ... I would even buy popcorn at the theater !!!!!!!!!!

  • I doubt there will be a Sandman movie. Neil Gaiman said he wouldn't want to because of the fear that it would turn out horrible. But if there is a movie made for Sandman it better damn well be amazing. Not just one of those shitty super hero blockbuster hits that have cute little video games tagging along. It has to be a classic. But with all the detail I think that it shouldnt just be one movie. Sure, a lot of people hate sequels but with Sandman you can't leave details out of it.

  • I think Sandman would be bigger than Watchmen if it became a movie. Not only the sences and special effects will be over the top, but the characters, specifically The Endless, will be a great challange to any who will play them.

  • the problem with maing a movie is that you have to fit so much detail into 2 hours. this would be near impossible.

    solution: video game

enormous cinematic capabilities, could make a game as long as you wanted, with so much potential.

games like fallout 3, gta4 and oblivion have proved how much story telling and detail you can fit into a game with the added bonus of it being interactive. imagine a game based more around exploration and story than random action scenes.

    great trailer tho.

  • Neat trailer. If Johny Dep was cast as the sandman, I would kill myself. THAT WOULD BE AWFUL!

  • if only...

  • hey! awesome trailer

would it be poss for you to remake this with your new skills (you are far better now).

you could focus a bit more on the character of the Sandman (love the casting of JD) and the story?

  • a sandman movie would either be one of the greatest films of all time or a horrendous failure. most likely the latter - just like with watchmen, getting the complexity and feel of the comic right would be hard as hell

  • sandman would mae a great movie, sad no one has got it right just yet

  • AWESOME!!!

    goood job!

johnny deep with sandman is the correct choose

  • You are seriously just like me. I love comics and I love these videos and I love games, and I love movie-making.

  • cool video.

  • i'm excited for Death & Me. i'm pretty sure Shia LaBeouf is going to be Sexton, because he basically is the reason that movie is being made!

  • God I'm not the only one thinking that Johnny Deep will be the best Dream ever <3

  • Great trailer!

  • Comment removed

  • what film is the girl at 1:39 from, its driving me crazy

  • great trailer, especially destiny it looks so perfect its really like him

  • Incredible job! I would love to see a movie based on the Sandman series. Or anything done by Neil Gaiman for that matter XD

Aha! I also caught a glimpse of Scratches in there. I heart that game.

  • Wow, somebody went through quite a bit to make this. I'd like to see a sandman movie, whether it turned out any good or not.

Anyway, the 'trailer' fits the theme extremely well. Kudos.

  • I have no idea how they'd manage to make a Sandman movie (or even whether such a thing should be attempted) but your trailer looks AMAZING.

  • they shouldnt make a movie. the books are too perfect. and nothing is worse than an awesome book butchered by a bad movie. but if they are making one (which i'm sure they will) they should do what the watchmen guys did: pick a director who's obsessed with the material

  • they should do a movie about the endless... It would be so interesting! I heard it's being done a movie about Death... but it was a year ago or so... Maybe the movie was stopped... what a pity....

  • i totally agree great novels i hope they do make a movie! if so im totally there:)

  • What were the audio clips used for this? Recognized the Strange Days snippet, but the music and any other bits are beyond my grasp...

  • The music is from x-ray dog (movie trailer music company) and is called Gregorian Chant. Good ear with the Strange Days snippet! The other dialogue is from the Copola movie Youth without Youth.

  • Thank you!

  • Super Awesome Vid

  • Johnny Depp as Dream is WAAAAAY to easy

  • or they could make 1 sandman movie but 14 hours ^___^ lol

  • what movies were shown in this trailer

  • please, no sandman movie ever. please let a good thing stay where it is.

it's so beautiful as a comic book serial. please let it stay in that medium.

  • What I wouldn't give for this to be real! Great job! Definitely one of -if not my single favorite story of all time.

  • It's fantastic! I bealive in one day when somebody create a Sandman movie...

  • This would make Watchmen look like a Saturday Morning Cartoon. I know, it's BLASTHEMY, but it's true. Sandman delves deep into the Metaphysical and Supernateral Realms, and Watchmen only delves into the Pshychological Realm. It would take a few years to film, mind you, but I think it can be done.

  • I wish that The Sandman movie that they will make will be too horrible and suck to be watch, that forced other people to read the The Sandman comic books.

Your fake trailer is VERY good however there is so many things that the movie can't capture as good as the comic books.

  • You'd be a great director, you've got a real eye for the weird. The atmosphere perfectly suits the feel of Sandman.

  • hey, it looks like the screens for Delirium and Destruction got switched...

Awesome video. I only wish it were true...

  • the sandman epic is a grand opus, indeed, but i can sort of see how they can pull it of.

the main story lines of the books; the release of morpheus, rose walker the dream vortex, the key of Hell and so on can be released as individual films. the smaller one-shot stories can be released as short films on the dvd of their respective issue

just an idea, but i think it could work

  • wow. nice job! that was pretty epic. there HAS to be a sandman movie sometime in the future... the world needs one. it would probably be THE hardest thing ever attempted in the movie-making world, but i think it could be pulled off in the right hands.

  • I have to say this is one of my favorite trailers so far. The idea of a Sandman movie is just plain awesome. But there has been talk by Neil Gaiman on doing a Death: The High Cost of Living movie for quite awhile. Perhaps you can do one of Death too ;]

  • hmm, sweeney todd as morpheus(dream). thats actually a pretty creative idea, nice.

  • Sandman can't be done on film. It's too abstract. No live action adaption could ever do it justice. Comic films like the traditional super hero genera do well on film, even the adult alternatives like Road to Perdition and A History of violence work. But Sandman is not the run of the mill comic. It's an abstract painting. You can't bring that to life. Good fan film though. But Johnny is too old to be Dream.

  • I don't know. I still Preludes and Nocturnes could be used as a good blueprint for a really cool movie.

At it's heart, the first 8 issues is basically a quest, which is the heart of fantasy. But in place of a young naif trying to find his place in a world by going on a jouney (the plot of most fantasy stories) you have a King on a journey to rebuild his world after a time of exile.

Pretty sraightforward, if you ask me.

  • I am so SICK of kiddie fantasy in films. This would be a perfect vehicle to show that the genre is for grownups as well.

  • well they're not making a Sandman movie any time soon..though Gaiman does think the time for it is getting closer. Though a movie about Morpheus' sister Death -is- in the works currently. It's based off the Sandman spinoff series Death: The high cost of living

  • Yeah, I haven't seen Watchmen yet, but as far as I can see they've dumbed it down with all the extra violence and the way they changed the ending

  • Not bad, really. I especially liked the use of the 300 creature as Despair. I honestly can't think of anyone who would make a perfect Dream though (and believe me, I've tried). I have been hoping for a Sandman movie for so long, but it scares me because it could be completely mindblowing....and then again could be so easily screwed up. And that would be completely depressing.

  • Very well done. I think get Neil Gaimen and Guilermo Del Toro together and we could see a fantastic Sandman movie.

  • Very well done...interesting choices for those playing The Endless.

  • If my dreams come true—and trust me, I'm gonna fight for it—I'll do everything in my hand to make a good Sandman movie. I'd love to take that job.

  • that's great, really great

    congrats

  • total trilogy, i wonder why someone hasn't taken it on yet...it would need the attention given the lord of the rings though....

  • this is so awesome.

and just yesterday, I told someone what an amazing movie could be made from the series. I'll keep hoping for it to come true. =)

  • Not bad :)

  • It was amazing!

  • Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

  • i kill for see a movie to sandman ;_;

  • Thank you again ^^

  • Your very welcome. Thanks for watching!

  • Great trailer! There should be a movie!

Just one question, could you tell me the titles of the movies you used to make it? I can only identify Sweeney Todd and V for Vendetta.

    Thank you ^^

    Five stars.

  • I used the movies Beowulf, The Spirit, Van Helsing, Igor, Youth Without Youth, Aeon Flux, Strange Days, The Duchess, Parasomnia, The Ring, The Wall, From Hell, Hellboy 2, Constantine, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Blade, 300, Session 9, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Babylon A.D, and the game trailers for Scratches, Linger in Shadows, Street Fighter VI, Darksiders, Diablo 3, Vampire Rain and Age of Legends, in addition to the ones you mentioned.

Thanks for watching, and for the stars!

  • This may be a matter of low-quality speakers on my part, but it sounded to me as though the volume of the music was too great relative to the volume of the voice-overs. I was unable to understand most of the words.

  • They're intended to be whispering, but this isn't the first time I've had trouble with sound and Youtube. I hope they fix that problem soon.

  • I think they'd HAVE to do this in a couple parts if they want to do this right. I've heard of this series, I've heard how tight-wound its plot is. They would have to keep as much in as humanly possible.

  • A trilogy at least.

  • Love that series, and a fitting trailer.

  • Thanks! I think this would make a fine movie in the right hands. It is a great series.

  • Really well made.

  • Thank you!

  • Amazing. I'd actually love to see a movie of this.

And, again, I have to ask you for the song. xD

  • The song is called Gregorian Dream by Immediate Music (the guys who make all the epic tracks you hear all the time in movie trailers).

  • gregorian dream...

Makes sense.. in a way.. gregorian chanting is chanting in scales... so it makes sense.. listen to the halo 1 menu.. theres another gregorian chant ;D

Yes, I'm studying music, i play guitar.

  • Great trailer, another one I would like to see :)

  • Looks complicated but fun.

  • I remember this Graphic Novel this is a nice trailer

  • good trailer
