  • If the music in Heaven is sweeter than this, I really cannot wait to hear it live!

  • Performed this in 2001. Tried to sing along but instead cried my eyes out listening to this performance. A beautiful masterpiece.

  • The solo was absolutely incredible. I'm in tears from the beauty.

  • I wanna hear this song on my deathbed

    Bravo !

  • Solo text: "I heard a voice from Heaven, saying unto me, "Blessed, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, for they rest from their labors".

    Very beautifully sung.

  • This song was sublime ~

  • Soprano solo was sublime!

  • Im a harpist preparing to play the Requiem with my school and i must say, this is probably my favorite movement to play out of all 7

  • Thank you so much for posting this. This is one of my favorites and you performed it beautifully!

  • Thank you.

  • If a human being can create such a beautiful and moving piece of music that uplifts the soul, what must the music of Heaven sound like?

  • Beautiful!

A little sharp voice on the solist?

But that is perhaps intended :)

  • He composed the best alto parts!! That Eb in "rest" made the whole song!

  • @Radstudent71 I was thinking the same thing! Isn't it divine!

  • I'm singing along with it. my chior did this Requiem. I loved it. Personally I think they are making it SLIGHTLY to fast, but, yeah. Our Cello player was amazing!!! So much fun.

  • The best version of the Requiem on YouTube. Excellent vocals, excellent instrumentation. Just beautiful.

I wish the sound was free of the occasional glitch, and that this had been a multi-camera shoot. But the actual performance was wonderful.

  • my only complaint is that you took it too fast. its supposed to be a pretty slow song.

  • @hiyaman2 oops i posted this before i heard the middle-end parts. i wouldve liked to hear the beginning to be slower and the middle to be a touch faster. and also, im not sure if your pronunciation of "requiem" is correct. but other than that, the performance of this piece is fantastic.

  • wonderful, thank you

  • This particular performance is incredible, performed with near perfection and delivered with an emotional impact that I believe Rutter would be most impressed with. It is difficult to make it through this performance without a tear in one's eye. It is truly spiritually engaging and a worthy tribute to a great composer.

  • well done I too performed the whole requiem with my high school choir and my director's church choir in '05 for Easter. i also agree that the tempo is a bit rushed in the beginning but is evened out to the end, but still loved the performance.

  • This sent mi chills through my spine!

    Wonderful!

  • when i was in hs we did this piece, you guys did a good job the only hang up for me is that the pronunciation seems a little off and the tempo is a bit faster than i would like but beautiful in all

  • Positively brilliant.

Rutter's Requiem is not an exceptionally difficult piece, but it is lyrical, emotional, and moving.

This choir and instrumental musicians is fantastic. Bravo!

  • What an awsome performance of the whole requiem. Just amazing and flawless.

  • This performance is exquisite. Who is the amazing oboist?

  • Young voices in choirs give a youth and vitality. I love the sound. However I also feel that this is a little too fast. I know it is almost impossible to sing but a large choir allows the staggering needed. It will permit the text to be more contemplative and the harp to be more expressive.

  • haha I did this solo. :]

  • Thank you so much for sharing such beautiful music. I performed this with my high school choir and my director's church choir. So excited to hear it again. Had to get used to the different Latin pronunciation, but very well done. Thank you again.

  • Bravo to the Montiverdi Choir for a brilliant and awe inspiring performance!!!! Special bravos to the cellist, soprano soloist, oboe player, harpist and the conductor!!!

  • Such a great piece - you did well. Careful not to rush it and I agree with parisblue - stagger your breaths. You do a great job otherwise. My choir had the opportunity to perform this as part of a concert for the victums of 911 @ St. Paul's Chapel. in NYC. People came off the street and sat in the pews and listened. They had tears, the choir had tears. It was an emotional time for my students. I think it was a better experience than singing in Carnegie or at St Patricks Cathedral.

  • Oh boy, way to fast a tempo for the Lux Aeterna. Other than that it is very well performed. I have conducted the Rutter Requiem with a similar ensemble and always felt the need to "hold back" the tempo. Let the beauty flow from the music as it is intended to be performed. Let the choir (however small) stagger breathe, rather than increase the tempo.

    Still, nicely done.

  • This was amazing. Such amazing beauty. Kudos to all of you in the choir! A very successful Requiem, I say. You brought magic to the world that night.

    Erica

  • Perfect. I rate Rutter's Requiem performances on their ability to brings tears to my eyes... this did that.

    Thank you!

  • Cathartic, i simply love this piece my fav of the all movements, i love the restatement of the first movement rips my heart out...

  • i wish people here in America had true passion for music i sang the entire piece at the end of last year and the entire choir was in tears at the end of it... it is one of the most beautiful pieces i have ever sung/heard... well done it sounds absolutely breathtaking.

  • Beautiful sound. Perfect tempo. Played and sung with tenderness and feeling. And young voices is what this piece needs and you have them!

  • amazing...congrats!!!!

  • beautiful.

  • I really like your performance! The choir has a really nice color of sound. Nice relation between male and female part of the choir. Really like your piano (well... the sound is not perfect on youtube, but i can imagine how was it in real :D) Really good dynamics! I can say one of the best choirs on youtube!

  • Thank You! All the best from Germany to Slowenia!

  • Interesting pronunciation of the e sounds. Dei should be day-ee not dee-ee. It was still fun to hear again. I performed this with a choir in 1996 and it's always nice to have another listen. Thanks!

  • Glad you liked it.

Concerning the e sounds you could check wikipedia for "latin pronunciation", but lets put it this way: There are different traditions in pronouncing the latin language especially for chanted ancient catholic lyrics in different countries. Greets from Germany!
