my step dad is an alcholic. he comes home and drinks until he gets so drunk he hits me and my brother. then he yells and calls names. iv been raped, molested, beaten, put down, spit on, and shot at. and it hurts. iv been cutting myself since i was 10 and i was on hard drugs for most of my teenage life. i was raising my 3 younger siblings when i was 7 cuz my mom was a herione addict. iv been taken away from my parentsd and shipped all over the country.

lol i have to agree.. I say the most random things to friends/family if im drinking with them. Like i tell my friends i love them when im drunk, which i do, but am to embarrased to say when sober lol.

Im usually his last call&sometimes he is drunk and I try not to pay attention to the things he says but then I wonder if what people say bout how ur true feelings come out when ur drunk is true. It makes me wonder n then I no deep down I stil love him bt I cant show it n wen we look n2 each others eyes we both no its still there,& his friends will come an tel me n mine wil go tel him witout us knowing that every1 knows we still love each other n that they can al c it.

I totally know how this feels... If i my ex is calling and it's after midnight, it means that either a) he's been drinking and needs me to come get him or b) His girl of the week wont come over, and he wants me to... my friend watched him go through his contact list, calling every girl he can think of, and i am ALWAYS his last call

Some people deal with problems that no other person could imagine! the pain the hatred that they feel towards the person in there life that is making it miserable. I have never got a call from my dad but I and my brother have had to be the ones who drive him off the mountains when we think were goin up there to blow off steam buts it just so he can get drunk without my mom knowin. Somedays I wanna kill him cuz he makes me hurt so bad cuz he says bad stuff to me. But I love him can't stop it.

The stereotype of the man being the one in the bar can be reversed. I have experienced this from the gender reversal of the woman doing the calling.
The songwriters, Erin Enderlin and Shane Macanally, who wrote this must have cried themselves to sleep at least twice before to come up with such powerful melody and straight-on lyrics. And after this song crushes the charts, they won't be that miserable anymore.

When I hear this song, I don't think about an ex. I think about my father. I've always been his last call, always the one who has come to pick him up when no one else would. When my phone rings at 3 in the morning, I can usually assume he's stuck in a bar somewhere. I can assume he's so drunk he can't see the door. And I can assume he wants a ride home. Cause I'm always his last call.
Don't judge people without walking a mile in their shoes.

Well said. Its so easy to judge. Living with an alcoholic parent is tough and heartbreaking. I had to grow up way to fast. Yet, I love my Dad and can't be mad, he after all has suffered with this most of his life. I have a chance at a happy life. He's stuck. Take care.
