  • It' so noisy at low rpms !

    Great work !!!

  • Im giving serious thought in converting my KITT Replica into an EV Car... Then it truely would be the car of the Future. !!

    :-)

  • haha, my brother has a firebird, and we were thinking the same thing, he bought it years ago and wants to make into KITT, and we were sitting here yesterday and thought how cool it would be to have an EV KITT, and then it would also SOUND like KITT

  • hey buddy have you looked into the perendev magnetic motor??

  • Hi i was just wondering what are the specs(hp,amp.volts) on the electric motor you put into your car as well for the batteries how many volt amp/hr are they... thank you.......,,,??????

  • Gidday! The motor's rated at 100 HP (peak) at 1000 amps and 144 volts.

You can actually put over 200 volts through these motors but you have to keep them cool if you do. The batteries are only 85 a/h each so it's nice & quick but not for long! :)

  • Hey Gav where did you get the metal box that houses the accessory components? and it looks like you hooked motor positive to motor negative is that how its done with a series motor?

  • The metal box was in a storage room at the local telephone exchange (let's just keep that between you, me and the rest of the youtube world). ;)

For some reason, that motor requires a jumper lead between those two posts when used as an EV. Not sure why but I just followed the instructions from the EV America folder that came with it.

  • @cant7think7clearly

That would be to connect the motor in series configuration

  • Dude.. you reacted on my comment on the science channel and I can not believe my eyes. Really, I was thinking about buy a Volvo 360 and build an elecric engine in it! (its a 360 right?) Anyway.. im gonna watch all ur vids. Did you heard of the Cycclone engine?

  • nice....

  • what for you need pump?

  • to help the brakes. normally the engine does that.

  • is there any way to stop all that rf noise?

maybe a huge count μf capitor to conteract the electrical resistance?

    good work btw.

  • I see that EV grin on Gav's face! What a superb job y'all done on that car! Excellent!

  • ITS ALIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Li-Ion batteries would give three times more power in the same space but they might overheat and explode

  • I love my 2000 RANGER EV NIMH....Shame they won't save the world and make more.

  • I was wondering does anyone know if this is the first home built electric car on YT?

  • Check the temperature of the controller frequently for now. I hope u face no heat problem.

Very good job! It is time to harvest!

  • Thanks mate! I'm keeping a close eye on everything at this early stage. Controller's doing well so far. Did about 3km of up & down the road driving with the controller only getting warm so it's all good so far!

  • Well done Gav Well done

  • I am so jealous!

Just curious, what was the high-pitched tone coming from?

  • Oh boy! It's alive! The Tredia is Electric now!

  • Dude, awesome!

Now you just need to drive down the street screaming "ZOMG!!! IT'S ALIVE!!!" all Dr. Frankenstein like :D

Can't wait for your next video... I wanna see the thing in action :D

  • wow! it works! great job i see so far its worth the 8 months of work. now if it drives good and charges how its suppose to you got you self a green vehicle. and every body is going to be asking you questions about the car on the street.

  • Great job Gav! Looks like you were working late on that one. I'm still painting my EV but its coming along.

  • Fantastic Gav! Will you be able to provide a "bill of materials and costs" in a conclusion video?

  • Exiting!!!!! Wow! I want My Electric Car!

  • Great Job! This is shaping up to be a wonderful video series. I know you said you had some things given to you, but could you provide a costs list?

  • great job! can't wait to see it on the road and to see what type of real world data (range, speed) you end up with. again great job, and thanks for the vids!

  • Thanks! That's the sound of the controller. It's something called Pulse Width Modulation (don't ask me!) which as far as I know means it whines at low motor speed. I like it! Sounds like something out of Star Trek!

  • I believe howstuffworks. com has and explanation of how a controller works.

  • Congratulations. The high pitch sound, was that camera interference, or can you actually hear that while sitting inside the car.
