maybe the salt water helps the rice stay together or it gives it alittle more taste...i'm thinking of making these on my B-day but maybe putting like a blueberry in the middle or something....wonder if it would taste good?
LOL, isn't it funny how they call them donuts. It's cause when they did the english voice overs, if they called it rice balls, american kids wouldn't have a clue of what they were talking about.
Everyone who says that it's spelled wrong, it's not. Because you say 'Osushi' instead of Sushi sometimes. The "O" makes it polite!

ciccarello 2 years ago
No. That was salt. PLain fillled onigiri often have the maker weting their hands then adding a smal amount of salt as a flavoring and preservative.
Kenko706 2 years ago
oh that makes since, i was like wtf flower?
but ya, when i was experiementing with onigiri i used some salt in the second batch, it make it taste great :)

pinni137 3 years ago
they use saly water because japanese rice is very sticky. its stickier then other rice. so u have to use saltwater to help mold
evilmofo000 3 years ago

ronvins 3 years ago
because it keeps the rice from not sticking on your hands.
xPiffles 3 years ago
I always wanted to try these, but for the first time I actually thought about what that means.
It's just boiled rice with a something on the side, no different than what I eat everyday for diner on a straight-up plate lol
So, I was wondering:is there a version w/ coconut shavings and maybe fruit? THAT sounds like a treat, but just plain rice and filler sounds bland.
I'm gonna use Coconut tonight either way lol, But I'm just curious as to whether or not there was a Traditionally sweet version
