If you google ortofon2mblue you'll find a comparison review on the 2M Red and the Blue. The Blue is supposed to be a lot better. What do you think of the Grado?
@49kasey I was using a friends 2m red. I'm sure the 2m blue is alot better, but the cost is around $200 and the AT-440MLa was on sale for half that. As for the Grado blue. I was getting a HUM/Buzz for some reason..
@dakine43 Geting a hum with a Grado is really weird since it's such a low impedance design. You should try again. Did you know that Joe Grado designed the moving coil cartridge but ditched it for his moving-iron design?
@dakine43 I forgot to mention that I used a Grado Black (same body) on a Pro-ject 1.2 turntable and there was no hum except for when the arm got to the end of the record. Not objectionable except on very quiet music. And no buzz. What you're describing sounds like a grounding problem.
@dakine43 That hum problem is very strange. The Grado always seemed to me to be the perfect cartridge because of it's design and since seeing a test report in Stereo Review many years ago which showed a frequency response graph which was pretty much a straight line, unlike other cartridges which showed a sway-back and fairly ragged curve. But I suspect that it's very critical as far as setup and worth playing around with.
How difficult (or not difficult) was it to install the 440MLA to the debut III? I just ordered that cart for that table and am wondering if there are any headaches....
Wow, good sound.

I like that you keep your stereo microscope next to your stereo.

@49kasey The Grado is a very good sounding cart. I didn't have any Hum / Buzz on my other turntables, just with the Pro-ject debut 3.

@goodwi11 It's not hard at all, but watch out when you pull off the cartridge wires.
