  • O-NO-CANDY-O:0).)))>

  • Thank You - Candy O top 100 ever:)))>>>

  • Ben Orr was wicked a nice foil to rik Ocasek sterile Bizzare vocal style it worked well!!

  • Elliot's lead is awesome here. I love this vid.

  • The tempo of this is just a bit too fast, like many live performances. It still sounds great, for it's a well written composition.

  • Thank You - Candy O top 100 ever:)))>>>?

  • What asshole is calling my cousin Benjamin a tool???????

  • can't do no better than that - thanx:).>

  • love Ben! Love The Cars!!

  • What a great, great song.

  • How can God expect us poor ladies to keep clean thoughts, and then send us someone like Benjamin Orr?

  • HOTT Performance; LOVE Ben and Elliot :-)) xx xx

  • it is 2011 and i can't stop watching the cars. ben was so fricken cute.....

  • @atuckertucker they are my favorite band as well , I was ecstatic when they came back , even without Benjamin Orr

  • wow man. far out!

  • Awesome!!

  • AMAZING. Thank you for this video. XXX

  • Back when bands had talent........

  • Orr and Michael Hutchence of INXS . Both so much talent and charisma fronting a band. But lost souls.

  • @incognito Benjamin was not a lost soul. He was my cousin and a joy.

  • Respond to this video... Benjamin was my cousin and far from a lost soul, my friend. He was pure joy.

  • @kathyuk28 Seriously, your cousin? That's awesome! Glad he wasn't mine though. I would feel so guilty about thinking how impossibly hot my cousin is..............LOL

  • @pamela827522 Yep, I was "All Mixed Up" about it.....he was 18years older than me.

  • Orr's death should have been like Mercury's death to Queen. But it wasn't. The Cars simply went on...with Ric as the new front man, sorry that was a sad joke!

  • Ben Orr / Rutger Hauer

  • Ben is the male Debbie Harry. YUM!

  • Ben is soooo much hotter with eyeliner!

  • Elliot Easton Rocks It Hard!

  • I love this speed, and the attitude.

  • I always loved Ben, he was so hot! R.I.P.

  • Whiskey A-Go-Go in summer 79'.. f*kin tight band..great show..cocaine helped everyone out if you know what I mean..

There were days, children, imagine if you can, that drugs, moderately consumed and exquisitely balanced made us feel the world was a beautiful place..while we rocked....

  • What?

  • RIP Ben, a real singer!

  • Who's the cute chick at the start of the vid?

  • Is this live aid or something? What's with the political reference?

  • this is the most melodic rock band that I dig!

  • AWESOME !!!!!♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ben is so handsome. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • @BabsTen Yesssssss

  • I saw em in 1984 in Portland Oregon

  • The people who dislike this video are pro-war idiots who support Obama's borrowing money from China and spending billions in U.S. tax dollars to invade and brutally occupy sovereign nations in the middle east, creating more deficit, more enemies and acting as an imperialist Hitler type when the money should be spent to create new jobs and help our own people while bringing home the troops and putting them to work protecting Americans on U.S. soil. Ric Ocasek for President 2012

  • @hectorsalinasisback Ya..........now THAT makes alot of sense!!! What does this song have to do with ANY of that?????

  • @hectorsalinasisback Why in the hell would you bother bringing politics into a thread like this? It's music, and good music at that, you insufferable twat.

  • @bigbigjoel - EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING! HA!! Focus on the music and Benjamn Orr for Christ's Sake...but really!! LOL!

  • @hectorsalinasisback

    What a moronic TOOL.

  • @john45409 : Yes John I would guess you secretly wish you were even a tad bit of "moronic tool" as the Cars. LOL. You're simply jealous. I feel sorry for you Mr. Moronic Fool and how dare you speak ill of the dead.

  • @hectorsalinasisback You comment is annoying.

  • Re: David Robinson comments; he may not have been the most amazing drummer ever, but his playing certainly worked well within the context of the tunes. The Cars songs are not particularly "drum centered"; they're more about melody and hooks.

He was however, completely responsible for the visual look of the band; their album cover look, onstage look, colour choices, etc.

  • I wish i could have seen this live :-/

  • @AngelEyez32195 Me too !!! RIP Ben.

  • @AngelEyez32195 I saw them live in 1987.it was 2 shows before they ended it all. They had always been my favorite band ever since 1978.It was an awesome show other than knowing it was soon over for them.there will never be a band like them again.I know they are trying a comeback but without Ben Orr its not possible to recreatate.Thet were one of a kind with him.I respect there wanting to continue but Ric is better off doing his own thing and asking his band mates to do it with him.RIP Ben Orr:)

  • Just incredible songwriting, performance and chemistry. I always thought they could have done without David Robinson, their drummer. He was definitely the weak link amongst the monster songwriter, Ric Ocasek, golden-voiced singer, Ben Orr, creative guitarist, Elliot Easton and quirky hook master, Greg Hawkes.

  • @80sAcademy

I think they needed a drummer!! But seriously many drummers do just that, work in with the tunes they are given, they get pushed to the back of the stage because they are more of a prop!

  • Ben was hot...and he had such a great, different voice. Heard The Cars first album today on the radio and it brought back great memories of being a little kid in the late 70s.

  • Ben is gorgeous ,as usual. I love Ben !!!!!! RIP

  • the cars own!! what a unique voice he had!!

  • the cars own!!

  • I just heard this song with Todd Rundgren of all people singing, sounded like the guy who sang "Monster Mash." So glad the REAL Cars are back together, though no one can ever replace Ben Orr.

  • I forgot who fantastic Ben's voice was...RIP

  • Ben RUUUUUULES!

    BEST Cars song ever

  • Best version of Candy-O.

  • if you can't play give it up.... so stop talking uot your but

  • :)

  • I wish they would make a CD or DVD from this tour

  • @fredannett For find this dvd , go on IOFFER. COM. Sorry for my bad english.

  • Xcorgi you have a nice doggi that you play with in your video. Is that your moms dog?

  • @Xcorgi First, of all, You're trolling all over the Cars videos with the mouth of a sailor, which just makes everybody hate you, so you might consider going elsewhere. Second of all, I think you talk to me like this 'cause you're in love with me! Sometimes when a guy really likes a girl, they get really nasty and say mean things about their weight or looks or intelligence just in a flirtacious sort of way! Is that what's going on here?

  • @mustangmom27 I have read Xcorgi's posts before. He never has anything good to say. Never.

  • @mustangmom27 I never said anything about anyones apprearance. Maybe YOU are a little too paranoid. All I mentioned was was a lame ass live preformance. Try to keep the facts strait from your paranoid delusions.

  • @Xcorgi Ever heard of respecting the dead???? Benjamin was the better of the two lead singers, although Ric had a very distinct sounding voice and many people admit to not being ble to decipher the two voices, as they often sound very much alike. Ric wrote nearly all of the lyrics, and there's a secret meaning behind the meaning of Candy-O that Ric had only told Ben about. It was written about a girlfriend of Ric's from high school, I believe, but that's as much as I know. Again, you're mean!

  • wow you inhuman people on here making death threats on a frigging brilliant cars video need therapy. xcorgi you have the mouth of a sailor and threatening people on here is uncalled for. Comments are like opinions but a death threat is insane.. The cars are still awesome today. Enjoy the video christ almighty people

  • @MegaHegira Not people. Person

  • @Xcorgi Ohh an internet tough guy that just got out of Monday high school, either that or you don't work as it is only 1pm where I am. You couldn't afford to fly to my country bitch. My pic is in my profile so if you want to "track me down" go ahead. PS you cant get an ip address from youtube dumbass. All you get is the ip address of the youtube channel. I reported you to fbi.gov for your terroristic threat and to youtube for suspension. PS mr. unintelligent. your 'is spelled you're idiot.

  • @Sweezelballin Click on the @Xcorgi and look at its comments. Never a good word about anything. Internet tough. Hilarious

  • @Xcorgi WTF are you talking about? This is a perfect performance in every way. Fortunately, Benjamin isn't alive to read your stupid comment, 'cause if he was, he'd just laugh at your stupid fucking ass for criticizing one of the best but totally underrated bands in the history of rock. Sorry, but you have ZERO taste in music, so go get a life and if you don't appreciate the Cars, then go listen to Lady Gaga's new song or the Jonas Brothers, all the rap crap that's all over the radio today!

  • @mustangmom27 Thats right Mustang. They were great live.

  • Comment removed

  • @Xcorgi You obviously never saw them live. They were better live than they were on the albums

  • AND...you can actually hear every word Ben is singing. My son listens to some stuff that I am like, Really?

  • They were so good live. Hard to believe Ben Orr has been gone for 11 years.

  • Ben looks like David Bowie and Linda McCartney had a baby

  • Elliott Easton was a great guitarist but never really given the credit he deserved.

  • @mustangmom27 absolutely

  • @mustangmom27 Couldn't agree more, he is highly underrated, the dude is brilliant!!

  • sadly missed man. He was a better singer than ric was

  • @Sweezelballin I totally agree

  • this is the shit.....makes me glad to have been a 80's kid

  • There's an upcoming reunion tour for The Cars in 2011.

Is this true or just a rumor?? anyone know??

  • Funny, this video reminds me of all the comments of my friends that they were like looking at a poster of the band and listening on a cassette. I didn't care though. It was about the music not a bunch of idiots (like other bands) jumping around. I saw the Heartbeat City tour in Indianapolis in '82 and it was awesome, but I don't know that they spoke 4 words to the audience the whole show. A couple 'thank yous' and 'goodnight' as best I remember. I didn't care though. Music was awesome.

  • NOT too fast! Just right.

  • Ben Orr... the Master of Cool. Awesomeness all around.

  • Too fast! Great tune.

  • A New Wave Rock super classic!!!

1 súper clásico del Rock New Wave!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Orr sings like Bowie is you listen to both of them live.

  • @alwaysopen Sings exactly like Bowie. No Bowie, No Ferry & Roxy Music, No Cars, No Blondie or Talking Heads or any other so-called New-Wave music that came in their wake in the early 80s..

  • @metamorphosis67 The Talking Heads opened for the Ramones at CBGB in 1975; Roxy Music were recording hits by 1974. Those weren't exactly new-wave bands. Ziggy Stardust didn't emerge until 1972 -- they're more contemporaries than in anyone's wake

  • @justice008a Bowie was already a superstar in 1976 when The Cars came together. Space Oddity charted in 1969. So in rock "generations," The Cars were clearly descended (in part) from Bowie, just as you could say that Bowie was descended (in part) from the Beatles. And just based on their sound, The Cars also seem to be influenced by rockabilly and 50s pop, e.g., Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, and Elvis.

  • @justice008a I don't think so. Bowie recorded songs as far back as the mid 60s & his first giant hit "Space Oddity" was 1969. It was Bowie that influenced all these bands. Roxy also had their first album in 1972 way before Talking Heads & Devo. Lou Reed & the VU influenced Ferry which all these new-wave bands were also influenced by. The early Cars even had a macho hard-rock sound mixed with other sounds reflecting anti-macho new-wave feminine archetypes that first appeared in Bowie's stuff.

  • @metamorphosis67 new wave was basically punk bands that the media thought were "acceptable".they were obviously not gonna play bands who looked like the ramones and dead kennedys

  • @louiscfc93 They played plenty of Ramones in the 80s. Punk was a separate movement from New Wave as far as the fans were concerned. In the school I went to, guys who listened to Van Halen or The Who or Kansas or Styx or Yes would listen to the first 2 Cars albums but not Bowie or Ferry. Bowie & Ferry were thought of as too gay whereas plenty of wanna-be macho kids listened to Queen! The Cars, the Talking Heads, Devo & Blondie were the gateway bands to the New Wave invasion of the 80s.

  • What a bad ass song. this album still rocks and holds its own against any of today's crap

  • @chorizo909 amen brother

  • Lets not forget Greg Hawkes

  • BAD ASS

  • Over 10 Years ago we Lost Ben Orr to Pancreatic Cancer at 53 on October 3,2000. I still Miss You what a Talented & Beautiful Man you were & will always be to me.

  • 49 this year and i still keep the first 2 albums in my car, on mp3 these days. always loved their sound

  • @mfactor88 ---I'll be 52(!) later this year, and I keep the Candy-O CD in my car...hell, age is a number and great sounds NEVER DIE!

  • They're ALL pretty cool, but yeah, Benjamin was one of my jr. high hormone gods...:)

  • Truth be told here ....Easton on guitar ...better than Hendrix

    Ben ...... awesome ......

  • @oceans20113 Better than Hendrix...Stop it! That has to be the most incorrect statement I've ever heard, I am a big fan of The Cars and he's not a bad rythm guitarist, but c'mon man!

  • @reldditmot

A rythym guitarist ? Are you that fucking stupid botman ?

Give me a break here ...... # 1 learn how to fucking spell the word.

#2 Hendrix was a doped up moron !! He died from drugs ..stupid NIGGER!!

#3 Easton would smoke Jimmy any day ..any night !!!

Now be a good pussy and suck on your mommas titty !!

  • @oceans20113 I love The Cars & he's not a bad guitarist, but nothing a thousand other middle of the road guys can't do. “Stupidity has a certain charm - ignorance does not”. (FZ) just about sums you up! You seem to know very little about real music...Get a grip man, grow some balls and listen to some decent music! Buttplug!!

  • @oceans20113 It's rhythm not rythym. dumbass

  • Elliott rocked on the lead guitar !!!!!

  • The Cars have been my favorite since I was a kid!I'd love some video of thier debut album-"Running To You" was one of my favs.

  • This band just exuded cool...Gifted musicians, brilliant song writing, totally underrated. They, along with Blondie and a few others were responsible for bringing in the New Wave movement of the 80's.

  • Yep, Benjamin is The Man!!!

  • is this rutger hauer singing or what?

  • @Serpico261 Nope. It's Christopher Walken.

  • @Riskmangler

    hahah that could be possible

  • I was at this concert about 10 rows back from Ben!!!!!

  • this song is sooo fukin awesome! They have like 500 top 10 hits

  • I love the Carrs! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

  • Nice to see some real rock from the Cars, quite different from their other tunes. Brings out the best in Elliott and Robinson.

  • candy o mexico

  • Killer!!!!

  • I've always thought Elliot Easton was so underrated as a guitarist, and never figured out why he didn't get more recognition. I see a few other posters here that have already made that observation, so it's nice to see others who agree that he's a damn great guitarist.

  • i like the cover much better by I.N.C.

  • LOL! I love that version. Indestructable Noise Command rock on this song.

  • @fukingupskanks323 Indestructable Noise Command did a great cover of this.

  • @WolfgangR5150 thanks i didn't know about this INC band pretty cool covers

  • What is the source for this video? Is it available commercially?

  • BEN IZ BOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • Ben Orr or Ric Ocassik- they were both great lead musicians

  • Ric as far as talent goes.

  • They all looked great here.

  • I don't think Rutger looks anything like Ben....Ben's the best EVER!

  • A shame this great band won't run anymore now since Ben has gone.

  • I have to say that I don't experience the same feeling watching Rutger in 'The Hitcher' as I do watching Ben perform! Although Rutger is no doubt handsome, I think Ben is much better looking!

  • Comment removed

  • I never knew that Rutger Hauer sang for The Cars!

  • Nobody could have a singing voice exactly like Benjamin's and I wouldn't want them to. His was sure unique. It's so nice to hear a voice that is different, yet not weird different...his was different but wonderful!

  • Wow youre so lucky! I wish i wouldve met Ben, he seems like such a nice person. My dad has known a lotta people in the biz plus i'm quite active in the entertainment industry myself, so maybe someday i will hopefully get the chance to meet the others. My natural singing voice is 'exactly' like Ben's, so as a charity i wouldnt mind belting out some old Cars tunes in his honour and for a good cause. Maybe some day.

  • I met Ben (my FAV.) in '85...also Elliot, Ric and Greg in '85 also...but at different times (not at shows). Cool memories.

Easton is most underated as a guitarist. Check out his playing in 'Take What You Want' from the Musikladen dvd. AMAZING! Right up there with SRV, Hendrix, etc. He had his own style though, I think.

  • Oh yeah, and isn't Ric, Greg, and David equally as cool! Always! They are all amazing, and 'every' song is Top-Ten hit quality. A New Wave 80's version of The Beatles. I also often liken Madness and Duran Duran to The Beatles. A wonderful era for music and pop culture!

  • Certainly one of the sexiest songs ever. I love the album version so much for its New Wave ambiance but must admit this version is so wild, i love it! And the guitar is smashing! Easton and Orr compete for coolness in this one. The entire band are underrated for sure. Btw, i was fortunate to have met EE at a Les Paul birthday party around that time. It was at the NYC Hard Rock Cafe, very quiet setting surprisingly. Rick Derringer was also there. It was a wonderful memorable night for me!

  • Yes i like this tempo too. I think this guitar player not Rick Ocasic or how ever u spell it, but the other guitar player must be the most under rated guitar player ever. All his leads are great also.He shreds.

  • Elliot Easton. He's definitely a very underrated guitarist.

  • this is somewhere around when i met him. after the tour i believe..around may/june '85

  • Love this tempo! Love Ben!

  • Much better than when I saw them. They have always been one of my favorite bands but they did not interact what soever and I was really disappointed. It sounded like the album was playing in the background when I saw them.

  • I saw them twice in the 80's. I ADORED sexy Benjamin!

  • Fantastic audio for a live performance!! A rare quality in those days, or these days for that matter!!

  • RIP Ben.

  • Everything about this song was ahead of it's time. Wish I could have been Ben's "Candy-O"-oh yeah. I feel so lucky to be winked at by Ben himself-I melted and his smile-ahhhhhhhhh :)

  • Awesome. That solo is unreal. I love how fast this is.

  • One of thier best songs from not only thier best LP,but one of the best LP's ever.

  • Benjamin Orr was so Sexy and that Voice. I wish I would have seen them In concert before his death.

  • Another great Ben Orr vocals song.

  • Well done!

  • An awesome song and one of the greatest vocal contributions before an untimely death. This song reminds me of my youth. And my son, who was born two years after this song was released, loves it too. That says it all.

  • oh God-I have seen Many concerts the Cars did-fantastic!!!! I was right in front of Ben Orr at W&M college. I miss ya Ben RIP.

  • I've always liked The Cars. Unfortunately, I never got to see them in concert. Thanks for the posting.

  • First live concert I ever saw!! 1979!! RIP Benjamin!!

  • I love the faster tempo....I think I have Ben doing this song least 100 or more times and each time it is different!

  • Looking for Benjamin Orr fans to join our video page and join us at our exclusive private by invitation only group...see our page for details!

  • There was no one cooler or sexier than Ben.

  • I still like the cover better but this is great too

  • Cover? what cover?

  • The melvins - candy-o
