It is good practice to discharge the tube/TV set before attempting service or removal; one never knows if there is 'charge' (electron charge/voltage) present and it's painful/could cause death if one makes the wrong assumption as to whether the tube has been discharged. As to this particular tube, I had discharged things a year earlier when the tube was removed ... no need worry once the tube is removed from the set, since the HV is generated *in* the set when it is operating ..
I was told by an electronics repairman that TV tubes have a glass peg in the rear that you break off to release the vacuum. Looks like you had to rip up parts of the electron gun terminals?
Modern tubes like this are virtually worthless but if you come across any older tubes, particularly round ones, please don't air them out! They can be valuable.
Threw mine in canal, it floated screen up!
