the 3.0 litre v6 tfsi is much faster than the 4.2 litre v8 fsi,

i was told by my dealer that audi rates the s4 at 333 hp but independent tests and consumer reports have shown that the car is pushing close to 390hp. with ecu tune (chip) you can go onwards of 400 + hp, especially running the vehicle on high octane fuels... like the ones they have over in Europe with 96 or so octane

A car produces 333hp because of the maximum amount of torque the engine can produce at its peak. Just because Audi says the car does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds means it only go that fast or else it'll fall apart? Thats actually pretty far from the truth because the 2010 Audi S4 can lay down a 4.7-4.8s run consistently. You're obviously not a car enthusiast.

BMW 335i has 306bhp and it falls just short of the S4 in standing 1/4 mile, S4 has 333hp and 0-60mph in 5.5-5.8 seconds, there is no way S4 can do 60mph sprint in under 5 seconds, even top gear and autocar have tested this in dry conditions and it cant do that time, if it could it would rival M3 which is below 5 second mark, but S4 is made to rival 335i not M3 so that kind of timing is not possible, S4 1/4 is around 13 seconds and 335i is 14 seconds

S4 0-60mph is 4.9 manual & DSG, M3 is 4.7 manual & 4.5 DSG. But M3 would be much faster around track because of better suspension, brake and OEM tires.

Its a great looking car and its definitely quicker than an S5 but there really isn't much room in the back. Extremely tuneable though. Shame that the RS6 is Europe only, and will still take another year to make it to the states.

And indications from audi have always been that they only focus working on one RS line at a time. Their working on the RS5 so I doubt an RS4 is coming until the B9.

@Justinw580i Close, but not quite. A base S5 starts at $55k, $10,000 more than a base 335i coupe, or merely $3k less than the base M3 coupe. That means the S5 is much closer to the M3 than it is to the 335i. Performance wise, the M3 is leagues ahead of the S5 according to every journalist on the planet. Then there's the RS5 with it's $71k base price ($13k more than the M3), that according to journalists, STILL can't beat the M3 - not even in a straight line. I still love the S4 and RS5 though.

M3 coupe starts at 60K is barebone, my friend just bought one fully equiped for 75K before sales and gas guzzler tax, that's some serious money. And RS5 which comes fully equiped is not much more expensive.

V8 M3 is an amazing car, but it's not perfect. When the car just came out in 2008, there were actually reviews rating it worse than the discountinued RS4. Surprise! I guess all I am saying is BMW is great, but not the ultimate car TV ads portraits.

@flawns, Each car company has its own ways of determean the trims to their cars, hence bmw on the e90 platform goes up to goes up to 335i before they head to the m division, bt with Audi they always had the s vers which produce similar power to the 335's and the 350 c's on mercs, before they have the rs4 which compete with the m3's and 63 amgs..

but the main difference is when it comes to the coupe versions of similar platform cars, where bmw offers all under the same name audi and merc dont

@Ji99i3 The new RS4 most likely won't come out till the next platform. They have an RS4 every other platform model. There was a B5 RS4, and a B7 RS4, they are currently on the B8 platform so when they refresh the A4 again there will most likely be a new RS4.
