  • You guys are cool.

  • Oh shit! Wow! Damn! Freaking Freaking Eight Miles High! No you are! Woah!

  • awesome!!!!!

  • Luv the sound :>

  • Sure. It's about airplanes made of paper that stay up for six to eight hours. Do you believe me ?

  • And this song is about a flight on an airplane, right?

  • Awesome guys!

    Keep it up!

    Christian

  • great cover, simply perfect!

  • you guys are good

  • Never could reach 8 miles, back then ...got close !

  • This is very neat!

  • Way to go Byrds 67 and Tim Menikos!!!

Cool the way you have the video of Gene Parsons hammering' the drums behind you.

He was and is a great drummer (and guitar player, banjo player, guitar builder....)

Byrds 67 actually looks like McGuinn Dr. Byrds era with the moustache.

  • i like it, good job, just love the byrds

  • Usually I click away wanna-be imitators of great songs on youtube within 5 seconds, but this made me listen and watch to the end with my jaw dropped! This is simply a great version of a great song!

  • Wow! That was impressive! Great job on the music & the video. Very cool.

  • bugger me sideways!!!!!

this is awesome! hard song to do... serious props, men!!!!

  • VERY impressive! What more can I say but thank you!

  • Excellent. Fantastic guitar work. What a better way to use a 12 string Rick than on the Byrds! My dad played 12 string with his band in the 60's and told me he once loaned strings to McQuinn right before they went on stage, very early in their careers. Dad said his name was still Jim McQuinn at the time. He met up with him a year later after they made it big and was too cool to even say hi! Still love them though. I saw them in 1978 in Hawaii at the Andrews Ampitheatre U of H Manoa campus.

  • Great Collaboration

    very very good

    bravo

    felicitation

  • this video is so cool.... its even better because I am stoned... shhh...

  • This is Great!!

    Many Thanks for the Post.

  • Great work. Nicely done.

  • Love it. Very very Good.:)

  • Thanks Buddy. You have many tributes that I have admired for a while as well.

  • Byrds1967 great colaboration, very realistic. I've listened to some of your other videos and I just can't figure out if your playing the 360/12 in this videos. In your other videos your playing right handed with a right handed Rick, this is left handed so I just am curious. Keep up the video's there is an army of us fugitives from the 60's out there that love this stuff.

  • Well my image is reversed in the video. It is a right handed guitar and all that, but my image is reversed so I look like a lefty. It was all to give the screen symmetry.

  • they sure know what the word "Harmonize" means... great song!

  • wow it's the real 60's psyche!!

    great playing!! great sounds!!

  • fantastic job guys! 5 stars!

  • this is awesome!! great job!!! i love me some byrds..ostrich's mostly ! lol....great job again!

  • The sound is great!

  • You guys sound great. You bring a warm richness in harmonies and playing I don't remember in the original. You kept the original feel but created more dimension in your version. Thanks much. Liz

  • Thanks Liz,

I'm glad that we could do justice to this great classic tune.

    SW

  • bad man :~))

  • was that video around the wrong way?

  • jimbog, at least *part* of it is reversed, for visual composition reasons (to have the two guitarists "mirror image" to one another). David Whitt, the fellow with the Rickenbacker 370/12RM, is actually right-handed, but he's been "reversed" for this vid (I kidded him about that farther down the page, and so did several others).

  • The video is the right way. Scalerwave reversed my image to make the screen more even.

  • wow, this sounds great!

  • Wow! Excellent! This is the best cover I have ever heard of any song!

    All the Best, Sandy

  • Heheheheheh . . . sombody forced the "pulling" of a "visualization" video I'd favourited featuring the original Byrds recording. Guess what just took its place? :-D This actually is a cleaner bit of engineering than the original performance, anyway, and I think the performance is just as good! Keep on (folk-) rockin', David & Co. ! :-)

  • Way cool video. Thanks for working with Dave on this awesome project ScalerWave. You have an incredible gift.

  • Hey thanks Sachi1972.

It was fun and I hope to do another project some time in the near future. Maybe we'll try "Turn, Turn, Turn" or "Mister Tambourine Man".

    SW

  • Nice job. The drums sound great.

  • Wow is is so amazing....wonderful harmony singing...and the magnificent sound of the

    "Ric"....excellent*****

    best wishes....manni

  • Wow!

  • SWEET. that was great, Roger would be proud.

  • I did send Roger a link...not sure if he checked it out though.

  • Had to stop in and watch again! Still GOOD!

  • State-of-the-art

  • Dave, I guess that this is not only an ade to the Byrds but Paul McCartney as well, being that you're a lefty now!!!

  • Amazing stuff!!!

  • Really good stuff! You guys really do justice to McGuinn & Co. Great job!

  • I know I'm behind the curve here, but WHO ARE YOU GUYS??? This is a great production I was turned on to by my guitarist friend. I would dearly love to know how the Rick was recorded - with the Rick-O-Sound?

    Cheers,

    Iain McLennon

  • Hi Lain,

    Glad you liked the video.

I'm just a Youtuber who likes playing Byrds tunes and making videos. Dave can fill you in on how he recorded the Rick. If you'd like an Mp3 of the video soundtrack, let me know.

    SW

  • Oooops...I mean Gene Parsons on the drums.

  • Looks like you got it to playback in stereo without having to add &fmt=18. That's great.

I wonder if Youtube has made some changes in this area. I hope so.

Thanks for the channel comments. This video project was a lot of fun for me too. Too bad the drummer didn't have a video camera but luckily we got Mike Clarke to fill in. What a great guy.

    SW

  • 5 star production all the way! * * * * *

  • Had to come back here a few more times - everything is so seamless on this, it took a few listens to realize how good the drummer is. And I don't usually notice drummers all that much.

  • playing left-handed now?

  • Oh man, I didn't think anyone would notice.

  • awsome vid.

  • Wow! This is awesome Dave!

  • Great collaboration, love the video, you totally nailed it!

  • Wow, first rate video, audio, and performance. Like being back in the 60s! Five stars and a fave!

  • Wow. That absolutely rocks. You just keep getting better. Great production. Great video. Happy holidays!

  • Cool video.

  • awesome rendition, thanks Jane for sending this one, great job guys, regards Ron

  • what an awesome rendition!..i seen the grateful dead play this tune live...it aint the byrds but still cool

  • you SAW the Grateful Dead I think is what you menat to say!!

  • Awesome collab .awesome cover of this classic tune ..Thanks to Jane for sending me here *****

    Rocket

  • yep! *****

  • Hey Tom:) Hope you have a wonderful holiday! hope it's is a musical one:)

  • Simply Excellent! 5'd fav'ed vlogged:)This is just one of this best videos and songs I have seen in a long time:) 5*****

  • Top shelf audio and kick ass production.

  • Koz-MIC! :-D David, this is really starting to take off, and it's looking like you may soon have a complete "nest" of latter-day Byrds to co-conspire with. I'm enjoying the video direction/production, too --- part of the background is some of McGuinn's "home movie" of the trip to London that inspired "EMH" in the first place, no? Furthermore, I note that you are suddenly left-handed (and so's the 370/12) LOL! Reminds me of the art-detectives "busting" the Old Masters for using the camera-oscura.

  • All props go to ScalerWave on this video. He did all the audio/video production. I'm not sure where he got the background shots from. He petitioned me to do the McGuinn 12-String, and another guy to do the drum track. ScalerWave did everything else. We sent him our audio/video via internet.

  • Ah, great! Looks like you got a Clark, a Clarke and perhaps a Hillman for the holidays--all you need is a Crosby (unless he has been fired).

  • excellent job!

  • Great job, guys. Love that Ric sound.
