  • 4:27 Futurama ?

  • WHAT ABOUT SIDEWINDER SLEEPS TONIGHT?

FIRST 20 SEC. ARE MAYBE BEST IN MUSIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • BEST BAND BEST FRONTMAN

    BEST LYRICS

HIS VOICE IS CURE FOR ME

ITS THEEEEEE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT

    AND I FEEL FINE

  • There is too many words on each verse.

  • For some reason i like the early R.E.M music better and the live versions of .R.E.M songs on pinkpop 89 are ace.

  • Hehe I love this. Is he picking his nose half way through the song???

  • ...Michael Stipe had hair?

  • Pete is bad ass.

  • I like this live version of this song better than the ones they've done 1994 and later.

  • go mike mills!

  • this song has got to be one of the best songs ever

  • that's futurama's theme's original in the very end :D

  • I was born a decade too early...

  • same thing :DD

  • I think it would have been awesome to grow up in the 70's and 80's. Too many badass bands and events!

  • it's of the woorld as we now it, and feeel fiine.................... fsdfsdfsdfsdfsdfsdffdstgdrgdy

  • ongy estvo aki

  • yeah boy

  • Grrreat Video !! thanks for postin it!!!

  • This song was better when R.E.M. did it on vh1 unplugged.....

  • tommy boy!!!! lol

  • PINKPOP WOOOH !! nl rulez

  • Is this karaoke?

  • no, he's trying to sing that song the way Frank Sanatra would.

  • Poor Berry, he was terribly sick during this gig!

  • Where you getting your facts there buddy?

  • Well I read a dutch review from the concert, and in that review I read that Berry was very sick at that moment.

  • I remember it well, my big toe - on left foot - was giving me major grief that day. I had cornflakes for breakfast that morning, and am sure i licked the bowl clean, give or take 7 or 8 pieces.Barry turned to me and said " gazzamataz - ive got a headache"

    thats what happened

  • Hey Soulix im watchin this now cos i am watchin that episode now lol on my dvd

  • Comment removed

  • hair shirt? I haven't seen hair shirt from Green

  • omg.... das ist doch nicht vorführreif!!!! habs mir gerade nochma engehört... ich bin ein fan vonlive musik... aber das ist dochn witz!! total scheiße ey

  • was soll das denn!!??

  • REM ARE THE BEST!!!

  • Its only sorta bad cause theyve changed the speed and making him sing slower in the verses

  • youre right, but rem are also the average types who done well, but are never gonna be real rock stars. true

  • this is much slower as they sing it now

  • i was standing in front of this gig,i remember the good sound of this gig,to me ... REM in perfect time, mutch more better than later years recording to my opinion. Thanks for share with us!

  • his declamation is cool, whatever you think

  • he wears make up in his eyes, right?

  • RIGHT!!!

  • seems either Mike is high, pissed off, or whatever.. big changes were happening and i think it is the second. Really bad version.

  • first R.E.M. song i ever heard (and saw on tv)

was an instand Fan!!!! and still are

  • I also saw first on TV, FX Family Guy

  • me too!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is pure life magic!!

  • why is mike stype singing like that? he sounds like hes ticked off!

  • I was there!!! I loved it..never forget it!

    Good old times:)

  • Always loved this song... ever since Document came out in 87.. but for some reason, live versions never seem to hit it right. They always seem to come off as clunky. Stipe usually had to read the lyrics off his music stand.. or at least he did when I saw them.

  • Good call there. THe lvie versions of this just mis, ah--well something. Although this is one of the better attempts if I do say so myself ...

  • I've always felt like the Green tour versions of this aren't as strong as some of the Monster and later tour versions -- Michael is kind of doing his voice more nasally here than usual.

  • This is definitely not a better attempt. There's some really good ones out there (captured on video at least). I just think he's tired of singing this song.

  • lol what the hell??hes like "im tired of this dang song"

  • lol,yah hes like "gee,im so happy to sing this song again, yay

  • he's either really tired, strug out or pissed off.

  • hes on something fo sho

  • cool.. sex drugs and rock´n´roll... :) ;)

  • He doesn't sound very good in this during the fast part. Usually he does that well live.

  • Colin, that is you at 2.33! How are you?

    love Sam

  • Now I FIND IT SO IRONIC THAT THE PINKPOP LOVED THIS SONG!!! HOW FUNNY???

  • REM'S VERSION IS TOTALLY SUPERIOR TO THE GREAT BIG SEA VERSION. nuff said

  • I SO agree. This is one of the best songs ever, as it perfectly discribes this shit-house planet we've fucked up even more, and the disease that is us, the human beings ...

  • he looks seriously sauced

  • is he drunk?!!

  • Great big Sea does a better version. Not usual for the band that first records it, not being as good as other bands that recored it also.

  • this is an AMAZING version of "end of the world"!! REM ROCKS!!!! and I ADORE the bridge...it's breathtaking, Stipe himself is bloody cool!!

  • Um? The non-live version is much better. I could do almost as well if I memorized the words. I think he forgot the words or something.

  • there are a lot of words. but he probably didnt cos i heard somewhere that they have one of those things that newsreaders have just in case

  • i think he mighta been alil drugged up there or very tired

but prob was a hell of a show

and if he was he did a pretty good job on that song cuz as a musician i know id never beable to sing that fast

so i give him an A for that song

  • Eh, I think he is just exhausted. Most musicians get it during overly long concerts, or any set of performances. We all don't know how Michael was feeling that night. To the best of my knowlege, Michael has never used drugs ...

  • i had the time of my life at this concert.

  • u shoulda got a refund. he sounds tired/lit.

  • woho he had hair :P

  • wow, he's so drugged out

  • he looks depressed

  • Well because 1# He is dedicated to being serious and singing the track good as best he can, and 2# He is singing about the eventual end of the world as we know it ...

    ;)

  • Athens, Georgia! R.E.M. rules...

  • many, many thanks for this video.

  • Such a difficult song to sing live... he does it so well...

  • Also reminds of a friend of mine called 'Patch', who was, and probably still is, thier greatest fan.

Patch's passion for REM got me more involved with this marvellous group and I was the better person for it.

So thanks 'Patch', wherever you are nowadays! Hope you managed to beat the demon drink!

  • Saw them live in Wellington, NZ, 1989.

Seeing this brings it all back.

They were always so much better in small, intimate venues though.

  • I love the 80's! Must admit I like the recorded version of this song the best. This song "live" is obviously a feat amongst itself, of course the chorus still brings you back no matter what version your listening to! It's the End of the World, Stipey!

  • Has anyone got the original video to post?

  • ekkk...kind of freaky...

  • AWESOME AWESOME! Thank you SOOOOO much for uploading the pinkpop festival! Chewed up my bootleg vid years ago so great to see it again! R.E.M. superb.

  • Amazing fucking video, that's music there.

  • such a great band i love this period of the band because of stipes really vivid eccentricity

  • Thank you so much for posting this!! LOVE it! :D Stipe is sooo yummy! ;)

  • Thank you for this!!! Always wanted to see this. Had this on cassette (the Dream) and played it a thousand times.
