This is truly an 80's classic! If it wasn't for Malcom McLaren their would be no Sex Pistols, or New York Dolls....basically Punk Rock would have never been heard of!
Takes me back to my late teens.. having this song on a C90 (both sides), leaving work and being conducted by a guy in the car next to me at the traffic lights,,,,aaahhh, great to be young
Does anyone know the female singing voice (not the operatic one) performing here. It's driving me nuts. I think it sounds like Carol Decker, she of T'Pau fame but I'm dammed if I can find anything on the net about it?
@surreydodger A certain Debbie or Deborah Cole, background singer at Malcolm's label, I just googled. Her voice reminds me of Sheena Easton, especially in "The lover in me".
@Gordy1201998 Debbie Cole?? Didn't she do a lot of backing vocals for artists like George Lamond and Monet? I really like her voice...too bad she wasn't bigger back then.
So far, far, far ahead of it's time..and even further ahead of time than the contemporary bullshit Rhianna/Cee-lo mass produced McMusic that people have theses ays
October 1984, remember this. Shame that Madonna's LAV pink wig got in the way in terms of airplay. I had a massive crush on her but I remember this one just as well.
Delightful. i think the Director was Terrence Donovan, the photographer + Judo Black Belt - who also did "Addicted to Love" video for Robert Palmer. Great song and theatrics.
Malcolm was always so ahead of time and so was this remix...i still get goosebumps hearing this song...RIP McClaren - the legend lives on in his music....xxx
@martmako, Its a mid 80's classic...takes me back to my teens; he may have been a bit off the wall but this is one of his best pieces, still sucks that he has left us, after all 63 isn't old these days?!
I love this track - takes me back AND is still totally of now :)

Hi Stilben - it means the guy in the next car waved his fingers at me like he was conducting an orchestra with a baton.

Such a deeply beautiful pop song in every way. It got me listening to Puccini & I was disappointed...

Other than Dollie DeLuxe, the only notable hybrid of opera & PostPunk.

Still one of the most beautiful versions of Madam Butterfly to date. His work might have been unusual for most, but to me he is a genius.
