He's doing that on a Mini Collosal Solid state amp. The amp can't keep up with the playing and it's still damn clean because Satriani has a way where he can sound like he's messing up and unclean and that be his style.
It doesn't matter. Knowing that he plays natural minor and natural major isn't going to help you any. All virtuoso guitarists use those scales. Almost all guitarists know them. It's how you use it that matters. Knowing your blues scales won't turn you into SRV and knowing you harmonic minor and diminished scales won't turn you into Jeff Loomis. Find yourself by using these scales in a way that you like.
I think its quite clear that he was a bit sloppy in this video. He didn't fuck up any notes as such but didn't mute the strings properly at points so his licks lost clarity this was made to sound worse because the backing was too quiet. The fact his was improvising like a proper jazz boi following the chords, makes this unimportant. He is 99.99% emaculate. love you joe

How come this isn't a good improvisation? Any of you who say he made mistakes...you are probably deaf...plus! I own a Mini Colossal and I really doubt you would make anything sound good through it without any FX cause it's a really unforgiving-dynamic little amp.
